the early morning. a beautiful drive, beautiful view. the lights actually look like they are twinkling right now. that's great. >> it is great. it's nice to see, but we've also had a lot of clear skies around the bay area. no issues with fog. i'm going to start you out in napa this morning with temperatures much warmer than we've seen recently, and it's also very breezy. at times we've seen the winds picking up, but as we take a look at our trend, a slight cooldown by sunrise and then our temperatures really start to warm quickly heading by late morning into the afternoon. as you're heading out the door, if you can do what you can to try to help out our air quality. we're seeing a lot of hazy sky and all the pollution being trapped close to the surface due to the high pressure that's really pushing that air down, and it makes the sky look really hazy. moderate air quality as we take a look at all of these numbers all across the bay area. some of the worst of the air quality in santa clara valley.

we've also dealt with some warm temperatures, but it's going to be very warm this afternoon. headed for the low 80s in santa rosa. that's going to most likely break a record. also looking at near record temperatures in concord as well as oakland and san jose. yesterday oakland set a record, too, and also i know a lot of people want to escape and happened to the beach. here's what to expect with the beach hazard staumt in effect. there could be rip currents and waves and as temperatures head to the low 70s it's going to be really nice and comfortable. a really nice day out there, but just never turn your back to the water. as we look at our rain and what's coming our way, what could be coming our way in the next ten days, really not a lot, but one computer model is showing at least some light rain for the coastal areas over the next ten days, but then we have another computer model not even showing that much. we are still look at fairly dry conditions and nothing significant here, even as we go out the forecast ten days. as we take a look at our

temperatures, it's going to be warm and breezy throughout the weekend, and then when our temperatures drop, we are going to have those winds increasing even more, but then we go back to more seasonable weather in the upper 60s and low 70s for our inland areas, and for san francisco, we've seen these temperatures in the low 70s each afternoon that. continues through at least sunday, and then a big drop in temperatures by early next week. we're looking at highs in the mid-60s. now for today's climate in crisis. scientists are not only looking at temperatures, but they are also looking at how much moisture is in the air, and they are finding that warming alone doesn't really tell the whole story, so take a look at this. as sunlight reaches the earth, some of that sunlight is -- comes in as energy and is reflected back into space. now, some of that energy is absorbed and re-radiated as heat, but most of this heat is absorbed by greenhouse gases, and then it's radiating in all
4:51 am
directions, actually warming the earth even more. well, with increased greenhouse gases, there's more water vapor, and that in turn increases temperatures even further so it's creating a cycle of higher heed and humidity so researchers find moisture increases 4% for every one degree, especially in humid regions so we have increased water vapor. they make the storms even stronger, also increasing the chance of flooding and not to mention how much the higher humidity makes it feel even warmer. we have wide-range issues on our climate in crisis page on nbcbayarea.com. click on that climate in crisis tab to the right so you can see some more of those stories. marcus and laura? >> thanks, kari. 4:51 for you this morning. more help is on the way for first responders who are dispatched to mental health calls in the south bay. santa clara county supervisors approving funding for mobile health units. this is in the north and west
