audrey asistio. >> i'm terry mcsweeney. we're following breaking news out of san francisco. flames burning through a building on 10th avenue in the inner richmond district over near gary. the fire department says one person and two dogs have been rescued. the victim expected to be okay. firefighters are still looking for two cats. the fire started less than an hour ago. firefighters warning people to please stay away from that area again. 10th between clement and gary. this fire started, we don't know how, but the fire department is now just keeping an eye on the hot spots. >> also breaking this time out of the east bay amoraga neighborhood is on lockdown due to polactivity. police haven't said what exactly is going on, but they are asking anyone on birchwood drive to stay inside, lock all windows and doors. we do have a call out to the moraga police department. we'll continue to keep you updated on the air and online. now to developing news in the situation in ukraine. president biden and vladimir putin spoke on the phone today for just over an hour, but the

white house says the situation has not changed much. the statement says president biden was clear that if russia undertakes a further invasion of ukraine, the united states together with our allies and partners will respond decisively and impose swift that talk happ after after the u.s. told americans to leave the embassy, get out of ukraine because military action would make it impossible to get anyone out if they stayed behind. nbc's erin mclaughlin is following the rising tensions from kyiv. >> the u.s. state department has ordered most of its direct hire employees to leave ukraine, noting that as of tomorrow, it will no longer be offering consular services at the u.s. embassy here in kyiv, maintaining a small presence in the western city of la vooef for emergency purposes only. we also heard from the russian foreign ministry this morning in

a statement saying that it's optimizing its staffing level at its foreign missions across the country seen as confirmation that it too was drawing down its diplomatic staff. for days, the united states has been warning is citizens to leave ukraine immediately. we heard from the mayor of kyiv saying he's working to secure the water and power supply. other than that it seems like business is usual in the capital. people going about their normal saturday. there's no signs of panic. for a while the ukrainian government has been down playing the threat. we did hear from the ukrainian foreign ministry this morning urging everyone to remain calm saying that the ukrainian military is ready to respond to any russian attack. erin mclaughlin, nbc news, kyiv, ukraine. new details about a russian figure skater wrapped up in an olympic doping scandal. the court of arbitration is expected to issue a ruling on monday. 15-year-old kamila valiyeva tested positive for a banned substance, a heart medication that can increase endurance.

the court will decide whether she can compete in the women's individual competition, that starts on tuesday. the decision monday, the event starts tuesday. she's a gold medal favorite. she was tested in december but that lab didn't report the positive result until earlier this week after valiyeva helped win the team event. the u.s. team won silver and could claim gold if russia is disqualified. a live look in beijing now, day eight of the winter games wrapped up overnight, but the u.s. picking up its fifth gold medal in mixed team snowboarding. were you able to see it? it's so good. here's a look at the medal count. norway leads the competition with eight gold medals. 17 total. they're followed by germany tieing them with eight gold but 14 medals overall. you see right there the u.s. has five golds, 11 total medals placing sixth overall in the winter olympics. not bad. figure skating is underway with american pairs on the hunt for a medal in ice dancing.

f 35. it's the first of its kind flyover. that should be pretty cool. how about some of the players now, not just the rams and bengals. we hung out with jerry rice this afternoon in downtown l.a., not quite here at the beach. he knows a thing or two about the super bowl. he's been to four super bowls, jerry rice turns 60 years old later this year. the guy still looks great. so gracious with the fans. everywhere he goes people are coming up to him asking for pictures and autographs, and he responds and comes through for everyone. really cool. i asked jerry, hey, what do you think about the super bowl? >> the big game is tomorrow. can you imagine what those players are going through right now? you know, trying to keep that calmness about them and not really get to exhausted because if you really put yourself in the game right now, it's going to have some wear and tear on you, but it's going to be a

warming up in shorts that were too tight for him. >> reporter: as a junior, he wore number 24, then switched to number 7 as a senior. the san jose native played multiple positions for the eagles on offense, and also was a standout defensive back. braun is not surprised that his former star is thriving as a defensive back with the cincinnati bengals. >> there was reasons he could have hung his cleat up. he stayed with it. now it's good to see him being rewarded for that. it's all part of the favor when you stay true to your goals. >> reporter: he spent four seasons with dallas before joining the bengals this season. braun who still teaches at oak grove says there are a lot of r ple in the south bay lvi. >> not just being a great football player, but just him as a person, you know, who he is as a person. we're very happy for him.

in san francisco people came out for a rally in march on a stretch of jfk drive calling for it to remain car free. >> toward the beginning of the pandemic the city closed the section in golden gate park to allow people safe space to get outside and exercise. supporters say it's been successful and should stay this way. >> people gathered on jfk drive in golden gate park, many who have enjoyed passing through during the pandemic without sharing the space with cars. >> and all summer we used it to get him to summer camp.

it's just a great way for us to get around. >> reporter: ethan bold and his kids came on bicycles. >> it's a lot safer now. there are a lot fewer injuries on this road, and i think people love it. >> reporter: supporters joined a rally and march today. >> let's make today the day our leaders hear loud and clear. keep jfk car free. >> reporter: early in the pandemic, a 1.4 mile stretch was closed to cars giving people a safe space to get outside. people here say it was widely successful and should stay. >> our time is now for san francisco. this has been a pilot, and we've proven its success. it's time to make it permanent. >> reporter: now they're looking ahead at what's next. >> we're out there trying to get the support of six supervisors to say yes to this. we have three supervisors today in support. >> reporter: some have raised questions including about accessibility and others today saw it differently.

>> i think in the week days, i think it should be open for cars to come through so the museum and the concourse. >> reporter: today as people marched, they vowed to keep up the pressure. in san francisco, christi smith, nbc bay. >> the all clear has been declared in moraga. a neighborhood was put on lockdown earlier for police activity. still no word yet on officially what happened there. we are waiting to hear back from moraga police. a rally in san francisco ahead of tuesday's special election. one of the hot button issues on the ballot, whether to recall several members of the school board. recall supporters are critical of the district's efforts to rename schools in the name of social justice, all while the board kept city schools closed for in-person learning. >> our kids suffered and mental health anguish because the school board didn't do its job.

it failed its job. >> proponents of the recall says it's a waste of taxpayer resources since a regular election will take place in november. loyola police are investigating two shootings just days apart. police found a man shot in an alley near georgia street and sonoma boulevard. that happened about 5:30 this morning, he was taken to a hospital and later died. police are not releasing any information on a motive there. the deadly shooting comes one day after another early morning shooting. a man was shot and killed near the kaiser. no arrests have been made in either case. san mateo county is giving out covid tests and masks for families in need. the at home tests and masks will be available for free at the county library. each is eligible for two free tests. no appointment needed. you can just go in and pick up your test. counties also dropping its mask mandate on wednesday along with the rest of the state. in fact, all of the bay area

francisco to the golden gate bridge. that's a north wind offshore breeze. no sign of that marine air. we'll take you inland around walnut creek, hazy skies. that is one thing we're watching here. moderate air quality at times as we don't really have enough wind to push some of the bad air out. that should change on monday, over towards liver more, 71 degrees. this is where we're seeing the warmest temperatures right now, 80 degrees. we see that from san jose into morgan hills, 85 in scots valley. as you head over highway 17, it's 82 degrees there, 75 in pacifica, so these warm temperatures continue. the only change we're likely to see tomorrow will be a few more high clouds. you can see that hour-by-hour as we go through the day tomorrow, increasing clouds and another day we could be very close to record highs inland, so we've got the cool start for the morning. 7:00 we got 40s and 50s outside. by lunchtime as you get your super bowl party plans underway, we've got mid-70s around the

santa clara valley, and we should see 70s bayside again and look at san jose, upper 70s may be close to 80 for one more day. mid-70s around the tri-valley and the north bay. watch this little case of weather whiplash by monday. highs dropping into the 50s and mid-60s. windy and cooler. better for air quality, but those wind speeds will be trending gusty as we get into mond srra there's a chance right there we'll see a little bit of snow passing on by. really shouldn't have to use a magnifying glass in the futurecast to find precipitation. we'll take what we can get. the sierra for elevations, generally above 5,000 feet. some snow at times. unfortunately as we bring you back to the bay area, you can see the same weather system taking that inland track, likely keeping any showers away from us. it's going to boost the wind speed. we'll see coming at times, gusty conditions on monday. sustained winds will be 10 to 20 miles per hour. it will be breezy, those gusts at times closer to san francisco

and the coast. the winds turn offshore as we get into tuesday and wednesday. likely that will start to get those temperatures to climb back up as we head towards the middle part of the week. seven-day forecast shows that today will likely -- and tomorrow will be the warmest days as we head into the new week, and monday and tuesday cooler and san francisco just doesn't look like we're going to see any showers at least around here. the sierra, if you have travel plans monday night, may actually have a little bit of snow. look at that drop in temperatures. 20 degrees cooler, then rebounding back into the 70s. so the weather is picture perfect for super bowl plans outside. we really could use some rain with more sierra snow. at least the sierra getting a little bit of snow. the bay area doesn't look like any rain still. the weather outside continues to be quite nice this weekend. back to you. >> all right, rob, thanks so much. police are moving in. still to come on nbc bay area news. the tense moments during a massive trucker protest in

for nearly a week now, truckers have been clogging the ambassador bridge along the u.s. canadian border, but now a judge is ordering them to go home. they're protesting a new law which requires them to be fully vaccinated before entering the united states. today police began removing truckers from the bridge that connects detroit from windsor, ontario. windsor leaders and other companies argued that the blockade was causing too much economic harm. some of the truckers spent the night on the bridge in defiance. the tense standoff appears to be resolving peacefully. it's an unfortunate side effect of the pandemic, you may be affected by this. nearly half of americans owe more money in credit card debt than they have in savings. the study was done by financial service company bank rate shows that it's especially bad for younger americans with millennials and gen zers taking the biggest hit.
