love. there is a lot of people on bikes and a lot of people walking and bikinis and swim suits and the whole nine yards. this is l.a. living and the super bowl is tomorrow. right now is all about the great weather. not just the beach scene though. earlier today we spent some time with guess who and his bling as in jerry rice, the three times super bowl champion. the 1990 super bowl when he caught three super bowl passes. where ever jerry goes, the dude stops for every fan and takes photos and signs autographs. i asked him what advise would you give to the rams and bengals? >> enjoy the moment, man. this is a great time. it is going to be exciting but you got to be able to calm yourself because you can get exhausted before you run on the

football field. run on the field and enjoy and look around and look at the fans because you never know who thank you may get the opportunity to get back to a game of this magnitude. >> very good perspective. >> reporter: you never know when you will get back to the super bowl and you never know which hall of famer you will bump into. all of a sudden daryl green, the hall of famer from the washington football team. take a look at this at the tiffany's event here in los angeles, jerry rice, joe montana, not just in the bay area but legends. this is the final count down and stretch until the super bowl tomorrow. the rams and the bengals not here in san monica but in hot englewood about 10 miles in land. we have a lot of bay area fans here. we have been here a couple of hours, people saying hey raj,

testing positive. the court will decide whether she can compete in the individual women's competition. valiyeva is a gold medal favorite, she was tested in december, the lab did not report the positive results until this week after valiyeva helped win the team in that event. also, the youngest hockey team at the olympics still undefeated. the u.s. men's team, median age of 25 claiming the first win against canada in 12 years. bobsledding kicks off primetime tonight. team usa, alana taylor is nearly sideline. she's set to compete. she's got some practice, she's taking the big hit along the way. you can seat your competition right here on nbc bay area at

7:30 of it. a live look at san francisco. it may be in the middle of winter but surely does not feel like it out there. let's bring in our rob mayeda. 80 degrees in san jose and 88 in so cal? >> santa cruz is 82 degrees. close to 80s in san jose. you see the numbers, 70 from oakland. if your super bowl sunday plans is outdoors, similar day expect tomorrow. tri-valley temperatures again for sunday, climbing in the mid-70s and we'll show you walnut creek at 76 degrees. san francisco one more day with highs in the low 70s. get ready for some big changes by monday. you can see warmer air moves out, cooler and gusty conditions

and a chance for some sierra snow. we'll have a closer look at the cooler forecast ahead in about seven minutes. thank you, we have an update of the breaking news we brought you at 3:00. the fire burning in san francisco has been put out. crews are still on-site working to put out any remaining hot spots. this started around 2:00 this afternoon at a building around 10th avenue. the victim is expected to be okay. firefighters are still looking for a cat. it is unclear how that fire started. in oakland, a lot of talk about for students and educators, oakland unified voted of the closures of 11 schools of the climbing enrollment. the controversial steps many opposed to, the town hall hosted by ousd to talk about those changes. how people were feeling the general consensus not good. >> and it is just this

disillusion of the situation we are in. oftentimes so many kids feel like mom, dad, are they going to close my schools and what's going to happen? it is demoralizing because we have a beautiful city. >> opponents of the changes were pitting hopes on the city council and maybe the governor saving the schools and giving the district debt of $40 million. those options appear unlikely. the governor says he'll not challenge the district's decision and still the union representing public school union. people came out on a march which should remain car free, towards the beginning of the pandemic, the city did close the road to traffic allowing people a safe space to get outside and exercise as nbc bay area christie smith explains supporters say it has been so

successful and should stay this way. people gather near jfk drive at golden gate park. many enjoyed passing through without sharing this space with cars. ethan bold and his kids came on bikes. >> we should stay because it is safer now. there are a lot fewer injuries on this road and i think people love it. >> reporter: supporters joined a rally here today. >> our time is now for san francisco. this has been a pilot and we have proven it a success. earlier in the pandemic, a 1.4 mile stretch was closed to cars giving people al safe space to get outside. supporters say it was successful in walnut to stay. some signs postcards to city leaders. >> we are out there to get the support for supervisors to say yes to this. we have three supervisors here

to support. >> reporter: access of other options or see it differently? >> in the weekdays should be open for cars to come visit the museum and concord. >> reporter: as people march, they vow to keep up the pressure. a rally all about tuesday's special election, one of the hot button issues on the ballot whether to recall several members of the school board. rename schools and the name is social justice. the board kept schools close for in-person learning. >> our kids suffered from zoom school and mental health anguish did not do its job. >> reporter: opponents of the recall says it is a waste of taxpayers resources. a regular school board election is going to take place in november anyway. overseas, leave now. that's the message of employees

to ukraine. the few national guard troop in the country who were there to train and advise ukrainian forces were withdrawn this morning. state department is warning anyone still in ukraine that they could be on their own because the government won't be able to evacuate them if russia takes military action. those orders came before a phone call this morning between president biden and vladimir putin. the call lasted just a little over an hour. the white house says it was productive. during a historic visit to fiji anthony blinken revealed he's been in touch with russia's foreign minister. diplomacy is still on the table, he says moscow needs to de-escalate or face consequences. masks and covid tests available now. up next you can get them for free. >> when you see the foot of your work, others working the way it

tests and masks for family in need. they'll be available at the county libraries. up to five masks while supplies last, no appointments needed, just go get them. the county is dropping its mask mandates. all of the bay area county excepts santa clara county for those vaccinated to ditch their mask. >> walmart is dropping its face mask requirements for vaccinated employees. fully vaccinated employees no longer need to wear masks at any walmart or sam's facility unless they are required by the state or ordinance. unvaccinated employees will still be required to wear masks until further notice. you are talking about vaccinations, a new build would require all workers to be vaccinated, the measure was

introduced yesterday. if passed, all businesses will be mandated for employees and contractors to be vaccinated. under the plan, employees who qualifies would have to be regularly tested and it was slammed by republicans of over reach. a celebration for the year of the tiger are underway on the peninsula. our very own robert handa hosted a lunar new year celebration in redwood city today. he's at the courthouse square giving a thumbs up. the event features several performances and even chop sticks throwing. they are still getting into the olympic spirit. you can see the kids playing curling. they also stream the winter olympics on a giant projector at that event. >> the chop sticks throwing scares me. many athletes will tell you

the difference of getting the gold and watching someone else get it can be the equipment you are using from skis to snowboards and costumes. >> reporter: when you watch a skater spins on the ice, floating weightlessly across the frozen floor, your mind does not go to this. but for many skaters, the skating boots made in hayward are the heart and soul of ice skating. for years this busy shop has turned out customized skates. >> each individual is special. they have different needs. >> reporter: at the center of this bustle operation is

founder amarillo, every pair of skates bare his years of experience. there is plenty of other olympic experience under this roof. cofounder charles cynic and his wife competed in ice standing at the 2002 olympic games in salt lake city. >> to have been able to experience that with my wife was pretty amazing. >> reporter: there is also the fitting chair brought over from the now defunk bill of the new york shop. >> a lot of skaters represent the u.s. one way or another passed through these chairs. you will see signatures like sarah hughes. it is where the shop does its surfeiting. >> we take a mold of your foot and we create the boot around this. >> reporter: as you can imagine the olympics are a big deal

meteorologist rob mayeda tracking how long the warm temperatures wills last. this is day three of record breaking temperatures. >> we'll get today four tomorrow. >> we should be at average highs at 62 degrees in san jose this time of the year. earlier was 80. we cool down to 79 degrees. a lot of 80s, south of downtown as you head into morgan hill and gilroy. you got that east wind. there is that one sign of high pressure. a little bit of northeast winds at 5:00 towards san francisco. no fog at 72 degrees. 80s from scotts valley. the warmest temperatures across the santa clara likely the same area tomorrow that will see numbers close to 80 degrees and 74 in pacifica. one change tomorrow, a weather system that'll bring bigger changes in terms of cooling and wind, so may be good sunset

viewing for super bowl sunday around the bay area. morning temperatures starting off in the 40s and 50s, still cool for about 9:00 in the morning, by lunchtime we'll see numbers climbing into the mid-70s by san jose, not quite as warm on the coast. mid afternoon, we should see little hints of on shore winds and at least 60s. over the highway 17 summit down into santa cruz. look at what happens here on monday. that's almost 20 degrees cooler. something clearly is taken place sunday to monday. when it comes rain chances is in land. watch out it moves down towards the east, close enough to the sierra where we get at least some snow flurries at times. unfortunately, probably too far in land to have enough moisture

to bring us any rain chances. outside of light county, maybe areas off on the west slope of the sierra foothills. we have some wind to deal with at times. on shore winds on monday and gusty winds trending a bit more offshore that's where temperatures will rebind. you are seeing the roller costar there. tomorrow is warm and cooling and rebounding. san francisco, hazy skies tomorrow. blustery and much cooler. climbing once again as we head towards next weekend. if we can get a little bit of snow around the sierra, that's the first time in five weeks. we have seen new snow in the sierra, looks like we'll be going, at least five weeks of dry weather, extending longer.

anthony flores is live and quite possibly sweating. anthony. >> reporter: hello and good evening or late afternoon from a buhl but warm southern california. i am out of sofi stadium where everyone around here is going through their final preparations for super sunday including the rams and the bengals. today both teams held their final walk through practices. after the work out both took pictures. even though it is a home game for the rams, they'll be sequestered tonight at the same hotel they used during the regular season. there is a report by espn that this could be the last game for shawn mcvay, he's only 36 but he's getting married soon and may want to focus his life in another direction. the rams are four points favorite, kickoff is on sunday at 3:30. super bowl lvi can be seen right here.

not all the action happening here at sofi. the warriors will take on lebron james, the lakers. both teams coming in with two games losing streak. they are headed in different directions. the dubs behind phoenix. the lakers are struggling. they're four games under 500. regardless of the record, it is special when lebron and company hoop it up in the bay area. >> when i applying in the nba. they're the glamour franchise in the league and a lot of laker jerseys in the stand and extra electricity in the area.
