next 48 hours. >> al, thank you. let's move on to another major story we're watching closely. the ukraine crisis president biden warning against a russian invasion that he says does remain a distinct possibility. while leaving the door open for diplomacy. this as vladimir putin says mixed signals about his next move nbc's chief white house correspondent peter alexander joins us with the latest from the white house. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. russia again claimed overnight to be pulling back some troops from the ukraine border. but u.s. and nato officials say there is still no verifiable proof of that.

and in his first formal remarks since the crisis began president biden warned if russia attacks ukraine it would be in his words a war of choice where both the human costs for ukraine and the strategic costs for russia would be immense. he also sent a message straight to the russian people. new this morning, defense secretary lloyd austin putting muscle behind president biden's words. visiting the headquarters of the nato alliance now being tested by russia. president biden is vowing to give diplomacy every chance, even while delivering this stark assessment of russia's capability to invade ukraine. >> our analysts indicate they remain very much in a threatening position and invasion remains distinctly possible. >> reporter: overnight russia's defense ministry releasing video it says show equipment leaving ukraine. in fact the president says the airborne lrussian troops now positioned along the border has risen from 130,000 to 150,000. and even as members of the 82nd airborne left for poland

this morning questions why the case was settled so quickly after two decades of damage. in 2010 andrew was photographed with with jeffrey epstein after epstein was released from prison in 2019 epstein was found dead in his cell after being with rearrested and charged with trafficking. that same year, andrew who repeatedly denied guiffre's allegations recorded an interview with the bbc widely viewed as a disaster in it he said he did not remember being photographed in this now infamous picture that would have been a key piece of evidence in any trial. >> didn't happen i can absolutely categorically tell you it never happened i have no recollection of ever

for the royal family and prince andrew as well >> i think you are a right a big sigh of relief certainly prince andrew has come under a lot of pressure both from his brother prince charles and his mother the queen to settle this case once that date for his disposition was settled, that he was going to have to give evidence on video. that really was the moment where the pressure came on and my understanding is the last 10 or 11 days have been spent trying to reach this settlement, trying to agree the wording, of course very important and trying to agree the amount of money that prince andrew is going to have to give of course questions saying is it

prince andrew's money? we know he sold his swiss ski chalet for about 18 million. about 6 million of that is debt so there is 10-12 million potentially he could be putting forward but many people saying the queen is pep helping to foot the bill. >> what does this mean for him so this has been settled now does that mean that he goes on still have any titles? what happens to him as a result. >> the short answer is nothing really has changed as far as him being a working member of the royal family he isn't and it is highly unlikely that he will be brought back into the fold in any official capacity. the -- he was head of a number of military organizations and regiments, those have been handed out between other senior royals there is no sign that he's going to get them back i think they are now gone. the charities that he was patron of or heavily involved with, none of them have been clambering to get him back on board. so i think the advice and the desire both to prince andrew and

learned in your wife >> oh so many things you know, she's an unbelievable mother i love watching her you know care for our kids and for our family i've learned a lot of toughness as well from her i'm lucky to have her in my corner. >> reporter: this postseason kelly found a new way to support her husband. for the first time she wrote him letters each playoff game. the final one made it to matthew ahead of the super bowl. what did that letter say >> it was just how much i thought he truly deserved this and why i thought he deserved it the most important thing at the end of the day is that we have each other and win or lose, obviously a win is always better, but that's what's important in life and he knows that but to just to reiterate through a letter and know how proud i am and, you know, we'll be waiting for him after the game no matter. >> and to be able to kind of reflect back and read those letters and talk and think about you know what my family means to me and before i go do something, they love to do, it helps put things in perspective and let me go out there and play free. >> reporter: kelly made sure their four daughters all under the age of 5 knew this was a big moment for their dad >> i said listen, if daddy wins, we get to go to disneyland so immediately it mattered they were like oh my goodness. we're going to cheer really loud i was like that's perfect. i think that will help >> a family celebration more
