at nato' brussels' headquarters today, european defense ministers debated strategies for their biggest security crisis in decades. we are talking about russia's threat to invade ukraine. there is still no sign of a drawdown vladimir puden promised. the u.s. is deploying 5 sthn troops to poland and romania. germany, the netherlands, and norway are sending troops to lithuania, denmark, and spain are providing jets for air policing. >> >> so president biden is now directing national archives to hand over the white house visitor logs during the trump administration. those logs are part of the hours select committee investigating

the january 6th attack on the capitol. president trump attempted to block the release of those records, citing executive privilege. but council for the white house is rejecting that claim. the head of the national archives says he will hand those records over to the committee in a couple weeks on march 3rd, unless a court order stops it. all right in our area, the mystery of the flair gun seems to be solved. it all started back in january when the san mateo police got an e-mail with this video that shows someone shooting a flair at the police department building. then last night. >> on the peninsula, a police officer was startled when a burning red object nearly missed his patrol car. well turned out to be a flair. the officer found a man at a bus stop, and investigators toorjor determined the man deliberately waited for a patrol car to drive by. that led to a search of the man's home, which turned up several other weapons. one person is dead, and another injured after a car flew off a south pay free way, and hit a tree. this happened around 11:00 lab

night at the 7th street off ramp on 280 in downtown san jose. right now, it is not clear what caused that driver to veer off the road. a 25-year-old cold case has been solved in sonoma county. back in 199 6, michelle veals' nude body was found dumped near rohnert park. the 32-year-old had been beaten to death. last year, they asked for updated dna testing in this case, then in january the lab reported a match for jack bokan of san francisco. he died in december while in prison in vacaville. he had been sentenced to more than 200 kblaers in prison for the kidnapping, rain, and attempted murder of a minor. the payout to a south bay jail inmate. he was permanently in san mow za's main jail back in 2019. he fell on a concrete slab in a cell. injured his spine. his lawyer says his screams for help were ignored for 24 hours leaving him a quadproceduric. the county settled for

$7 million. this follows a record 10 million that are payout to another inmate who became disabled after rideling unsecured in a jail van back in 2018. >> well, beware of the water. a new report is putting a finer port report on a longtime worry. that suggests sea levels could rise as much as a foot by 2050 due to climate change so how would that impact us? here is nbc bay area's christie smith. >> the bay your is known for its stunning water front views, to king tides draw people to our shores but new data suggests the location of those shores could dramatically change by 2050. that according to the national oceanic and atmospheric administration which has improved research and data. >> there is bad news and there is good news. bad news is the bay area is ground zero for sea level rise. >> executive director of the san

francisco es chew way institute, he says much of our local infrastructure is in danger zones. the concerns are not just rising seas by risings groundwater and low-land flooding during more extreme storms. >> good news is our bay area leaders have just completed two regional vat justs to address climate change and adaptation and that's come from the bay planning and conservation commission and from our metropolitan transportation commission. our state government and federal governments have also turned on the firehose of funding opportunities to help support both planning and implementation strategies. >> people with we spoke with say it is an issue they are watching closely. >> san francisco i think is one of those places where, you know, they scare about climate change and what to do about it. but i think it's a much, much bigger problem. >> reporter: some believing this highlights the importance of current efforts like restoring wetlands and constructing sea walls. >> and building up our witlands so they keep pace with sea level rise and provide an essential

this afternoon. and that is really going to be the trend through tomorrow. what a day outside? if you were looking through the window, itself hard not to head outside and just enjoy some of today. and of course, you might even feel a little guilty here because we definitely need railroad rainfall with our drought. we are still doing okay because of some record-setting rainfall in december, and also in october. but we got to get more in here. we will talk more about that weather pattern coming up because again in san francisco right now, you got anything to do the next couple hours, you are looking all good here with sunny skies and 63. dropping down to the 50s by 7:00 and 8:00. still, with some 70s. winds becoming to calm out of the 7:00, 8:00, back down into chillier 50s. and down here in the san jose, not quite 70s but you are close if you are out in the sun, it feels like it.

69 degrees right now. you are also in the 50s here once you roll into 7:00 and 8:00. so overall today, we were good for about 4 to 11 degrees of warming everywhere across the bay area sue warmer temperatures and it is all coming from this area of high pressure. this is what has been keeping the rain away. just sends those storms off to the north. in fact, look at this. last time we had any measurable rainfall was january the 7th and that was just 15 hundredths of an inch. so waez move through tomorrow, interestingly enough, we are going to see a new system beginning to drop down because this is moving over land, passing over canada and washington, it is not able to pick up moisture from the pacific, so this yet again will be another drier system dropping down. so basically, expect more of what we had today as we head through tomorrow. so we are going to start on the cold side. raj, make sure you got that zwrakt tomorrow morning. we got 43 until the south bay. 40 light there for the tri-valley. over to san francisco, 4r5. north bay coming in at 4 1.

but again, through the afternoon. we are going to come in for you and in a big way. look at this down in the south bay. we got it up to 69 in sap jose. 67 in morgan hill. let's take over to contra costa, alameda counties. anti concord, danville. palo alto at 69. san francisco, 63 in downtown and through the north bay, some low 70s. santa rosa, right over to napa. my seven day foefr cast, rainfall continues to stay away. we are looking at interesting changes maybe by next wednesday that could offer some showers. i am not sold on it quite yet. we have got 60s next couple days in san francisco. and through the inland valleys, i have some on-and-off 70s thursday and saturday. and then, we will also go colder with 50s next tuesday and wednesday. so, raj, have your jacket tomorrow morning. shorts by the afternoon. and then, a suit at night. lot of wardrobe changes.
