kind of a succession of western attack the westernmost attack was on a military base about 20 miles from me, 15 miles from the polish border. that was two days ago. it's really changed the whole mead here in lviv. this is the safe haven, the destination for anyone fleeing the violence in the east and going onwards into the rest of europe now when you talk to refugees, residents, other ukrainians who just thought maybe they could wait it out safely in the west while the violence waged in the east, that risk calculation started to change and i think we're going to see more people heading across the border. >> molly, thank you. as the attacks on urban centers intensify across ukraine the refugee kris is also growing. nearly 3 million people have now fled their homeland in search of safety and other countries for most the first stop is in poland and that is where nbc's
