refugees leaving ukraine are now somewhere in poland. we know that supplies are also coming under assault at such a difficult time. >> reporter: yeah, it really is, and getting much more difficult. good to talk to you this morning. we're at medyka, the biggest border crossing between ukraine and poland, and these are the most, by far, refugees coming across. this is what has come here in the last -- when we first got here three weeks ago, empty fields and now you see these tents that have been built up, volunteers pouring in, doing what they can for refugees. we've seen a dip over the last couple of days, but we expect more to move through. let's talk about that bombing today. the latest on the west side of ukraine, and about 50 miles from where we're standing right now, near lviv. it hit an airport maintenance facility, a place where they
6:33 am
work on jets and a place where some of the assets from the west have been pouring through. and so it was taken out. getting the attention, obviously, of everyone here, because it's so close to where all of this is going on. i can also tell you that it may spur more refugees to head to this spot, because it's the closest border crossing to lviv. you may remember a week or so ago, there was a strike at a base, which is maybe 15 miles from where we are. so it's in between the area of lviv and this area. and so it's really got the attention of a lot of folks, and many were staying in lviv, want to go stay in country, but now that's change, perhaps, because of this secondary attack to the west. and one thing we'll close out on here as we're talking, is the piano. i'm sure you hear the music. it's striking, comparing this to
6:34 am
the situation here, the desperate and very difficult situation here. this young man, this is the third time we've seen him out here at the medyka crossing, and basically what he's told us is he rolls his piano out here and plays. it's beautiful music. because he doesn't have anything else he can give. he can't cook, he doesn't have a lot of money to donate, so he wanted to help. he wanted to be here and do something for those who were coming through. and it's amazing to see the attention, even if it's just for a song or moment, on the faces of so many who pause and listen. one woman today brought to tears as she heard his music. the juxtaposition is amazing and it's what people are doing to try to help. >> it's on powerful, as we saw, even in president zelenskyy's address, and that video, the
6:35 am
music really kind of drives it home. >> but as you mentioned, the juxtaposition there. but what a rich gift. he says he doesn't have much, but he's giving so much. thank you, jay. quite moving. thank you. it is 6:35 right now. a southern california micro beer maker is trying to help ukrainians impacted by war as well. it's called the abnormal brewery. they're just outside of san diego and they're making a new beer called glory to the heroes. all proceeds will go to ukrainian soldiers and families across ukraine. the brewery owner says he's just doing his part to help. everyone has their unique way of trying to give back. >> whatever way you can. 6:35 right now. a middle school in the south bay is reeling this morning. this is such a sad story. a tragic death of one of its students. >> this morning grief counselors will be on campus to help students and staff deal with the tragic death of their fellow
