you can take us on the go with you this morning. we are live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv, and online. >> let's start out with a look at that forecast. tuesday morning. >> tuesday morning, and it's going to be a nice day. we're done with the rain for now, but now the fog is settling in and visibility is down to a quarter of a mile in much of the north bay as you get ready to head out for work. the rest of the bay area is mostly clear and we are going to see a mostly sunny sky as we go into today. we are seeing some of those conditions out there that are looking good, and then as we go into the rest of today we'll see a mostly sunny sky. let's head over to the traffic computer as we get a look at what's going on. as we head out in dublin and across the bay area, we are seeing a smooth morning commute for you, and hopefully it stays that way. we'll get a look at all of our weather and traffic coming up in the forecast in just a few minutes. >> sounds good. all eyes are on turkey this

morning. peace talks between ukraine and russia are getting under way right now. turkey's president opened today calling for real progress to end the ongoing conflict, but officials from both sides of the table have tempered expectations as the war is looking more like a stalemate with each passing day. the talks come as ukrainians report they're making progress pushing russian troops back and fighting around ukraine's capital. russian troops have moved to circle and cut off ukrainian troops in the eastern part of the country. amid the fighting, there is growing concern that the ukrainian port city of odesa, could be the focus of russia's next attack. people living there are preparing for the worst. find out what residents are doing to protect the two centuries' old odesa opera house coming up on "today" right after "today in the bay.." we have cell phone video

showing the moment police shot a suspect walking outside of a san jose restaurant. we have police response about what led up to the incident. >> reporter: san jose police released new images from inside the la victoria taqueria from sunday, which they say shows a fight between two groups. cell phone video shows the moment soon after when officers responded to reports of a man with a gun inside. as they walk up the stairs, a man walks out and officers fired. the man was wounded, but is expected to survive. >> one of the subjects pointed a gun at another person involved. one of the arriving officers fired his handgun and struck the suspect at least one time. >> reporter: this student lives next door. >> i heard a couple of gunshots and walked to the window and just saw a bunch of cops and everybody kind of running this way. >> reporter: the department is releasing these new images, not only of the fight which triggered calls to police, but stills from an officer's

body-worn camera moments before police fired. you can see a man holding what looks like a gun. the front door of the taqueria is shattered from the gunfire. police say just minutes before that shooting, officers responded to a homicide around the corner on 4th street when they were called to the taqueria. the police chief will hold a press conference in the morning with new details on the officer-involved shooting. ian cole, "today in the bay.." in just a few hours, talks between striking workers and the chevron refinery will continue. the two sides met for the first time yesterday since the strike began last week. steelworkers are demanding higher wages. a union spokesperson tells us nothing was decided, but they are hopeful they can reach a deal. it turns out making it in the bay requires a hefty hourly wage. this morning we have a new look at what you need to earn to

afford the average rent or mortgage in the south bay. our business and tech reporter, scott budman breaks down the numbers. >> reporter: audrey atkins would love her own place. >> i really love the bay area. >> reporter: here is what audrey is facing in san jose. to rent the average two bedroom apartment, the city now estimates you need to make $54 an hour. looking to buy an average home, you need to make at least $123 an hour. >> so i don't make $54 an hour, so i can't afford rent, i can't afford to buy a home. >> reporter: and she's not alone. >> we're selling it and i'm moving to idaho. >> why are you moving? >> because it sucks here. >> reporter: lots of people are buckling under the increasing price of just about everything, from food to rent to gas, and of course the oldest problem in the bay area -- >> we are suffering from a chronic housing shortage.

officer will become the ceo of fedex on june 1st. smith will transition to chairman of the board. he's served in several marketing jobs in asia and the u.s. and served as the top executive of fedex express amid the growth of online shopping. walmart will stop selling cigarettes in nearly 5,000 stores across the u.s. as the retail giant recently rolled out more self checkout registers. cvs took cigarettes off the shelves back in 2014 and target ended cigarette sales in 1996. walmart stopped sales of e-cigarettes in 2019 due to growing regulatory uncertainty. that's the latest from cnbc. marcus and laura, back over to you. >> cigarettes and tobacco, i know it's not the healthiest thing for a lot of people. you do what you want and you have that right. but i'm glad that they're pulling it back. >> i wonder if it decreases or

hello, tuesday morning. taking a live look outside, overlooking the san francisco skyline on this tuesday. a nice start to our tuesday morning. i don't mean to say tuesday so many times. i don't know why i am. but it's nice out there. >> tuesday doesn't get a lot of attention. >> maybe because we're kind of glad that monday is over. a little better. and the rain has subsided. >> the rain is out of here. as you're heading out this morning, dryer road conditions and we're not seeing those showers. but we are dealing with some fog, especially in the north bay. so as you're stepping out, heading out for work, only seeing one traffic hazard heading up 880 as you head closer toward the bay bridge. but overall we have good drive times as you head through the tri-valley. you normally see the altamont pass starting to build up early in the morning, but it looks

like we have a smooth flow of traffic. once again, the dry ready conditions are going to make for a much better drive on your way to work. in the south bay it will take you about 18 minutes to get from 85 to mountain view. for 280 we're seeing a seven minute drive on highway 101 to 85. the rain is gone. let's get a look at our satellite imagery. we are seeing the storm system move toward the east and also a lot of some active weather for the desert southwest. here in the bay area, now that we do have the rain on the ground, the fog is settling in and visibility getting pretty low in parts of the north bay. down to a quarter of a mile in santa rosa. it is mostly clear elsewhere. then our temperatures today reaching into the mid-60s, so that's right where we should have our temperatures for the end of march. mid to upper 60s, very seasonable temperatures for us as we head for the upper 60s

today, mid-60s for danville, and antioch reaching 69 degrees. we will have cooler weather near the coast, sodaly city, half moon bay staying in the 50s, and redwood city will reach 64 degrees. the clouds and fog hanging on to san francisco and our highs in the upper 50s there. mill valley reaching 63. 70 in clear lake, with a lot more sunshine. so as we go through the rest of the week our weather just dries out. the storm track heading farther to the north and we are going to at times see clouds moving by. doesn't look like we'll see any major changes. our temperatures still going up and down. we're in the upper 60s for the next couple of days in antioch and then we see highs reaching into the upper 70s for the weekend. more sunshine and warmer weather as we head toward the middle of next week, so even looking beyond in that extended forecast, we are looking at still no rain headed our way.

and we see a lot of sun icons here, looking at our inland temperatures, with upper 60s and upper 70s for the weekend. you can see the warming trend. and for san francisco we'll see temperatures in the lower 60s, but then upper 60s, and it looks like it's going to be pretty windy on sunday as highs reach into the mid-60s. let's turn to our climate in crisis and we're taking a look at the trend on social media. i don't know if you saw this, but there was an entire ice shelf that collapsed in antarctica, following an historic heat wave recently. those temperatures soared to an unbelievable 70 degrees above average for mid-march. and check out the pictures of conger ice shelf. nasa's laboratory said sea ice is missing a piece about the size of california. and researchers say it's not only extreme heat, but recent

instagram. it said, in part, jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and i reacted emotionally. he goes on to say, i would like to publicly apologize to you, chris. i was out of line and i was wrong. i am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man i want to be. pinkett smith has publicly said she suffers from an autoimmune disease called alopecia that results in hair loss. public relations consultant sam singer says will smith's apology is only the first step toward restoring his image. >> he's now going to have to take that bad example that he set and create a new path by teaching non-violence across the board, black people, white people, people of color. >> reporter: san jose state public relations professor says the way will smith handled it was wrong. >> i would love to see him start
