good morning to you on this wednesday. i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. a reminder, you can watch us live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv, and online. >> we're going to get to the commute in just a bit. vianey is in for mike. first, we want to start out with the forecast for you. meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring that. i saw sprinkles on the car. >> a little mist and drizzle in some spots, but every else looking good. we are going to see the clouds linger. in martinez, a cloudy day, temperatures reaching from the low 50s to the mid-60s this afternoon and you'll see peeks of sunshine today. it won't be as clear as yesterday. take a look at our hour-by-hour temperature trend, get a look at your microclimate as we go into later today. antioch will reach into the mid-60s, upper 60s for fairfield and santa rosa, and morgan hill will see temperatures in the mid-60s for today. we'll get a look ahead for warmer weather in the forecast in a few minutes.

how is it looking for the commute? >> we're starting out okay. bay bridge toll plaza, you can see a smooth commute. let's take a look at your speed sensor map. overall we're doing okay, but i did see this pop up along 580. i'm going to check and see if it's from an earlier crash. i'm not noticing any slowing out of that area. let's look at the tri-valley drive times. 580 from grant line road to 680, 22 minutes. again, the eastbound lane might be a little blocked. southbound 680 from 580 and vargas road, ten minutes. and a closer look at your bridge drive times, there is some slowing heading from westbound 80 toward the bay bridge. you're looking at about 11 minutes. i'll have a closer look at how the rest of the drive times are doing in just a few minutes. a potential glimmer of optimism on the war in ukraine. peace talks are under way again in turkey, after russia

announced that it will reduce military operations near the capital of kyiv. the country is now moving troops to the east, near the southern city of mariupol. at the same time, forces continue around chernobyl. the claims of de-escalation are not being met and is being met by skepticism by most of the world. the white house says we stand firm on sanctions and providing aid to the ukrainian military. three human rights experts were sent to investigate possible war crimes. 4 million refugees have fled since the war started. starting today, some of the bay area can roll up their sleeves once again, the fda approving another booster shot. starting today, you can get in on contra costa county, this is where you can get them, you must

be 50 or older, at least four months should have passed since your last shot, and the fda said if you are immunocompromised, you may be eligible for the additional booster. here is infectious disease specialist dr. the cdc guideli really could, rather than should, and the highest priority group in all of that age range is really the older individuals, so the biggest bang for the buck is if you're in the middle of a surge and your probability of getting an infection in any age group is high. in not a surge, you're probably very low and you're probably going to get less bang for the buck. however, in covid no one can predict what's going to happen around the time when immunity may wane, so you want to protect the most vulnerable people in society. >> we are keeping track of the changing guidance when it comes

to covid-19. be sure to go to nbcbayarea.com/coronavirus. once you get there, you'll get the latest updates from mask rules to mask mandates. blood donations took a critical hit during the pandemic. earlier this year the american red cross declared the first ever national blood crisis in the u.s. the nonprofit supplies 40% of the nation's blood. as the bay area moves forward, we wanted to see where the need is now, so we spoke with regional executive justin miller. first, we asked about the group testing all blood donations for covid antibodies now. >> yeah, on march 7th we resumed testing and i'll say last year we were hopeful as cases were dropping, but then delta impacted us, omicron impacted us. and really as we were looking at hospital needs with new testing, indicating that those that are immunocompromised can really benefit from the convalescent plasma, we reintroduced testing on march 7th. so it is a limited time. i don't know how long it's going

to go at this point. that will really depend on the need. presently when you go in to donate, those donations are tested. so whether it's a whole blood donation at one of our mobile blood drives, a platelet donation, we do test all of those types and make the results available for the donors, very simply by looking at an app or calling 1-800-red-cross. >> we know covid infections are on the decline but still happening. what should people know before they donate blood? >> safety precautionary measures were heightened throughout the pandemic and we continue to make sure we're being safe at all times, so additional hand washing, santization of equipment, we're still practicing social distancing, and at blood drives today you're still asked to wear a face mask happening. one of the questions that's come

minutes. we'll take a closer look at a couple of delays in the south bay as well coming up in the full traffic report. first, let's check in with business and tech. good morning, silvana. >> good morning. i'm silvana henao from cnbc. stocks are set to open lower after extending their rally in the previous session. hopes for a cease-fire in ukraine boosted sentiment on tuesday. the dow added more than 300 points, while the s&p rose more than 1%, both notching their fourth straight day of gains. the nasdaq climbed 1.8%. in focus today, home sale data in adp's national employment report ahead of the closely watched monthly jobs report on friday. lululemon's ceo said the company will start raising prices on about 10% of styles in the second quarter. this amid ongoing supply chain challenges. he announced the price increases on the company's first quarter

earnings call on tuesday after lululemon reported stronger sales and profits to start 2022, despite the omicron variant weighing on its business. lululemon added that its increased use of air freight to avoid supply chain issues and that weighed on the company's profits in the first quarter. home prices in january skyrocketed more than 19%, compared to january of 2021, as the inventory of homes for sale dropped to a record low. that's according to the home price index, which measures average home prices in major metropolitan areas across the country. arizona and florida saw huge surges in home prices. the index showed the biggest annual gains in phoenix, tampa and miami. home prices are surging as demand for homes strongly outpaces the supply of homes for sale and competition leads to bidding wars with many homes selling above their list price. guys, back to you. >> it's a way of life here in

a very good wednesday morning. taking a live look outside. san francisco's skyline there very nice to see. kari, i washed my car yesterday and right now i saw a little drizzle, and i thought, what? >> it's kind of in spots, but it's going to stick around for a little bit and not everyone seeing that. but we haven't seen much in the way of really dense fog around the bay area. so as we take a look at our visibility, it's down to about three-quarters o that are going out a little mist every now and then. overall it's going to be a dry day. the clouds will hang out for today and in palo alto some low 50s to start. we can see that we'll be at about 50 degrees up until about 8:00, and then it slowly starts

to warm up with peeks of sunshine. it's going to be a comfortable day, reaching 63 in cupertino. light northwesterly wind at about 15-15 miles per hour at times. walnut creek headed for 65 degrees. these are the kinds of temperatures we should see for the end of march. with san francisco seeing highs in the upper r50s and a gusty wind coming out of the west, it's going to feel cooler than the actual temperature. sonoma today up to 67 degrees. seven-day forecast is coming up to the north of us. there's only one chance of rain in the forecast and that's going to be on sunday. it's going to be very close, but i don't think here we're going to see it. and take a look at our ten-day temperature trend for brentwood. i want you to get ready, because we do have a lot of changes and i called the ac repair person to

do the tune-up. next week brentwood could be hitting 90 degrees and it's april, so we're going to have a big spike in temperatures after this cooldown. take it in and enjoy it. it's the coolest day we'll see in our seven-day forecast. we'll see upper 70s going into the weekend and slightly cooler on sunday as the rain moves close to our region. once again, not really expecting much out of it. and next week we start the warming trend from tuesday and especially on wednesday. how is it looking for early-morning commuters? >> not terrible out there, but we do still have a little bit of slowing along eastbound 580 from a previous crash. no major delays through that stretch. south bay is looking good as well. and i did just see one pop up in the peninsula, so we're going to check in on drive times in just a second. 101 from highway 85, about 18 minutes. northbound 280 through 101 to 48, five minutes.

southbound 101 to sfo, about 11 minutes. no big delays and any sigalerts, overnight sigalerts have been canceled as of now. i'll send it back to you. >> thank you. it's 4:48 right now. big break in a high profile cold case by out of state police. local officers won't discuss how they solved the murder, but our investigative unit has learned it started with a private journal with a written confession to a crime in san exclusive story. >> reporter: this was a cold case for nearly three decades. today i can announce that we've made an arrest, and justice for mr. kang's family is at hand. >> reporter: the arrest was announced of this woman, accused

of shooting this store owner during an attempted robbery back in 1993. the crime was featured on america's most wanted, but investigators had no leads until they got lucky. according to her booking papers, hoffman ramos was living in the rural oklahoma town of dewie. local authorities were searching her home as part of an unrelated investigation when they found something shocking, her personal journal, containing a confession under the heading, things i regret. hoffman allegedly wrote, the killing of a korean man during a robbery attempt in 1993. sources tell us the details in her journal matched the botched robbery of tang's little store. it turns out hoffman ramos was living at this home in nearby san mateo at the time. on the day investigators

announced her arrest for murder, they also revealed they searched a home in the sacramento area, the area where she had been arrested for drug related crimes a few years after the san carlos slaying. she's expected to be brought back to california soon to face the new murder charges, and it all started with oklahoma authorities stumbling over a list in her journal titled things i regret. jaxon van derbeken, nbc bay area news. >> i bet she was right, things i regret writing in this diary. a homeowner in marin county has lost her house after the earth under it gave way. i want you to look at this because this was the scene yesterday in fairfax. that house crumbled into a pile of debris. the edge of the road next to it failed. investigators say the recent rain didn't help, but most likely nearby excavation is to blame. luckily, the house was under construction, so no one was living in it and there are no injuries. >> we don't see a lot of water.
