i'm scott mcgrew. marcus washington having a particularly good monday. he's off. >> probably sleeping in. and i'm laura garcia. if you recently bought a smart tv, you can also watch us live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv, and online, if you have a coffeemaker come down to our station. we need it for this monday. it's a change in the forecast, too. >> my goodness, all kinds of changes here. yesterday we were nice, mild, but it was pretty windy, and we're transitioning from the 90s we had last week to 50s today for a high. and, yeah, it's going to be pretty much of a wild fling from one end of the spectrum to the other as we watch rain approach parts of the bay area, mainly moving in from the north. as we look at antioch, the rain doesn't look to get here until about 7:00, 8:00, and it's going to be fairly light, lasting for a couple of hours. so we're going from those, once again, really hot temperatures last week to, take a look at this, a lot of microclimates not

making it out of the mid-50s today. so we'll continue to follow this and talk about more changes ahead. vianey, how is it looking for people heading out early this morning? >> we had a couple of overnight fender benders and i did just see this one pop up in the south bay. i'll check the chp traffic report. it looks like 101 there. aside from that, drive times are okay. westbound 80 from highway 4 to the bay bridge, you're looking at 13 minutes. westbound 580 from 238 to the bay bridge, about 15 minutes. a quick check of the tri-valley drive times. westbound 580 from grant line road to 680, about 19 minutes. usually there's construction, but for now it looks like things are moving along. 580 to vargas road about ten minutes. i'll send it back to you. >> thank you very much. this morning we're learning more about the massive fire that broke out at a home depot in san

jose over the weekend. you can see what used to be aisles of products now just a field of debris and ash. the only things standing are the walls. >> we're hearing from customers who were inside that burning building and the desperate efforts to get out. "today in the bay's" marianne favro has more. >> reporter: firefighters say the fire start in the lumber section of the store and they're still looking into the cause. they're also investigating whether the fire suppression measures inside home depot worked like they were supposed to. flames ripping through this home depot at lightning speed, destroying the store and sending customers running. this lady was buying paint when she heard someone on a loudspeaker say there was a fire and order people to get out. >> at that point everyone started running to get outside, no trampling or anything. i saw this mom running with her kid and everyone was just in shock. >> reporter: julia shot this video of flaming pieces of ceiling falling. seconds later, you can hear the

fire alarm go off. >> within five minutes it went from we were just standing in the painting section to the entire thing is covered in smoke and flames. it was quite scary. >> reporter: firefighters say all the customers and employees inside the store got out safely. julia says she didn't see any sprinklers go off. firefighters say it appears they worked but add it's possible some of them may have been overwhelmed by the intense heat. more than 100 firefighters worked to stop the flames from spreading to nearby buildings, including wagly pet hospital. people living in 15 homes behind the store were ordered to evacuate. this lady says she was terrified. >> we were trying to get out, no time to grab anything, just good get out of the house. >> reporter: this fleet of huge water trucks brought in to

pressure, as we're seeing interest rates rise on u.s. treasury bonds. we're going to watch those rates this week as we look at inflation data. that's going to be front and center. tomorrow we get consumer pri tn producer, wholesale prices. earnings season kicking off on wednesday with jpmorgan starting us off. meantime, jet blue is trimming its summer schedule in an attempt to avoid flight disruptions as it ramps up hiring. a spokesperson confirming an email seen by cnbc that capacity has already been cut 8% to 10% for may and there may be similar sized cuts throughout the summer. u.s. airlines are trying to speed up hiring, but struggling like all employers, as they prepare for an expected spike in summer travel demand. and attention k-mart shoppers, when the k-mart in av on dale

just think about how extreme it was last week with those 90s, and so we're waking up and heading out to a couple of spotty showers. not a whole lot in the bay area. notice it's just off to the east of us, but we have light rain in ukiah that will be working its way into the north bay and we expect parts of the north bay to see that rain around 7:00 to 8:00 and then starting to make it into parts of the east bay by the main morning commute. but we're looking at much cooler temperatures and then once the rain clears, by late morning into the afternoon, it's all sunny the rest of the day. we only make it up to 59 in los gatos and concord today reaching 60 degrees. we'll see a high of 59 in novato and san francisco in the upper 50s. tonight frosty conditions and chilly and windy tomorrow as we stay in the 50s for a lot of spots from the inner bay to the coastline and some low 60s for

the south carolina and parts of the north bay. and really not much warmer on wednesday, either. only reaching 62 in san jose. as we go hour-by-hour, we're expecting the rain to start to make its way across much of the bay area by about 8:00 to 9:00, and then going into 10:00, 11:00, you start to see it already clearing out. so it's not even here long enough to bring us a decent amount of rain. the rest of the day is sunny and windy, as once again, we keep those cool temperatures. as far as how much rain we could see, maybe 0.1 of an inch for spots, it could be 0.25 toward the mountains and redwood city. there will be another chance late wednesday into thursday. it may be a wet weekend, especially on saturday with rain moving in. if you're looking ahead to easter sunday, it's clear but there could be another chance of showers in next week's forecast. as we go through the next seven days, there's a possibility that we could see anywhere from about

a half to three-quarters of an inch of rain, possibly over an inch. check this out for the sierra. this round of snow comes in and it's about 10 to 12, maybe up to 17 inches of snow, but as i run it out another week or so in total, there could be 50 inches of snow in kingdale, which would be pretty amazing for dealing with this dry weather that we've had recently. really excited about that. so take a look at the seven-day forecast. yes, it's kind of late for it to be winter, but we'll welcome it at any point now because it's been so dry. and we're going to continue with highs in the low 60s, so keep those sweaters handy. keep that umbrella around, too. we'll have another look at the forecast. vianey, what's happening for the commute? >> we have one crash to tell you about. but i want to show you the bay

bridge toll plaza. no metering lights just yet. cars moving nice for a monday morning. an overall look at the speed sensors did show a crash earlier and i went ahead and checked it out. it looks like if you're traveling along northbound 17, the slow lane is blocked from an earlier crash and this is starting to cause a little bit of slowing through that stretch. highway 17, any sort of blocking or whether that's the slow lane or any lane can cause traffic delays. so they are working to clear that out. again, that's at summit road, the slow lane is blocked. our south bay drive times right now moving along northbound 101 from highway 85, about 18 minutes. northbound 280 from highway 101, you're looking at about seven minutes. i'll be back with another check of the traffic in a few minutes. today president joe biden expect to do announce a new federal crackdown on so-called ghost guns, untraceable guns assembled from parts and made without serial numbers.

ghost guns can be 3d printed at home. authorities across the united states and here in the bay area say ghost guns are behind more and more shootings. our investigative unit reported recently a sophisticated ghost gun factory was found hidden inside a san jose home. you can read that full story on nbcbayarea.com. sources tell nbc president biden will issue an executive order today, expected to do announce a new replacement nominee to lead the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms as well. also starting today, the new gender neutral option available on american passports. the white house announced the change at the end of last month on transgender visibility day. advocacy groups say the new gender x option may impact up to 5 million americans who do not identify as either male or female. in some states, though, laws prevent people from receiving a state i.d. card reflecting anything other than male or

female. >> over the weekend mclaren park in san francisco was taken over by artists and plenty of fans. this is the museum of modern art soapbox derby, returning to the city for the first time in more than 40 years. "today in the bay's" christie smith was there for all the action. >> reporter: people came to see the action and creativity on display, and some had their favorites. >> carl the frog. i don't know if you've seen it. it's got clouds and a tower emerging. >> reporter: from the starting line each racer coasted down the hill one at a time. >> this is fantastic. this is a really great experience, great for the city. it's all of the things from san francisco in one, a little quirky, a little music, community, all of the best parts. >> this is a dream come true. we're at the san francisco museum of modern art soapbox derby at mclaren park. it hasn't happened since 1978. we're bringing it back. we've got 57 cars. >> reporter: organizers welcomed the return. >> there's only one trophy for
