good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. and it is already shaping up to be a very busy travel we're. here over the holiday week they are expecting nearly 2 million passengers to come through just this airport alone. and travel is picking up in other places across the country too. but it is also leaving airlines scrambling to keep up. this morning millions of passengers are set to take to the skies in an industry still reeling from pandemic setbacks. over the past week tsa screened nearly 2 tnt 1 million passengers every difficult up nearly a million since last year and just shy of prepandemic levels. levels. >> we expect domestic travel to be high again this year. >> reporter: even with travel number on the rise, airline behind, making any weather delays even more disruptive. >> airlines as you know are not operating the same routes and frequencies they did in 2019 with the supply and demand, makes it certainly more challenging when delays and

cancellations occur because recovery time takes longer. >> reporter: now airlines are struggling to keep one demand. jet blue already reduced its schedule by as much as 10% into the summer alaska airlines trimming 2% of its flights. and an open letter, southwest airlines pilots association complained of schedule chaos and fatigue. calling the latter, the airlines number one safety threat southwest responded in a statement saying there system is working as designed, allowing crew members to determine if they are two fatigued to fly and now with more passengers preparing to go wheels up, they are facing an extended requirement to mask up with the cdc continuing the mask mandate until at least may 3rd, amids rising covid cases nationwide. >> makes no sense. >> i wish it was off but we follow the rules. >>ep rteorr: the white house says while cases are on the

mariupol molly hunter is in the capital city of kyiv once again for us molly good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning to you. the sinking of the moscow is not just a strategic loss for russia it is hugely symbolic. this as russia threatens to increase the missile strikes right here on the kamal. -- capital. overnight a major blow the flagship russian warship sank as it was being towed in stormy weather to port yesterday conflicting reports. ukrainian officials say it was hit by missiles. the russian ministry of defense says a fire broke out on board and everyone was evacuated moscow likely reviewing its posture in the black sea many morning. in odesa two weeks ago, the highest ranking naval officer on shore offered a prophetic prediction of russian warships we will sink them he said. fish feeding season and our fish will grow fat. the russian push towards donbas from the east and south. 25 hundred people were evacuated from eastern areas yesterday but in mariupol just 289 people made it out thursday.

a sign people are adjusting. frank james still in judge after a federal judge denied him bail yesterday and now we're learning more how police helped track down their suspect. jesse kirsch from brooklyn with the latest good morning. >> reporter: good morning. jack griffin tells me he's saw frank james wednesday morning, tweeted out photos and called police among the thousands seeing the images, the nypd, the teen's quick thinking helping to end a citywide dragnet. >> why'd you shoot all these people -- >> reporter: one day after his arrest ended a nearly 30 hour man hunt across new york city. the subway gunman making his first court appearance denied bail thursday his lawyers didn't object. the 62 year old suspect sat in prison clothes as the judge told him he's accused of committing a terrorist act against a mass transit. asked if he understood the

crew evacuated. it is being seen as a major boost to morale in ukraine. and in kyiv people were lining up to buy stamps with tts ship's image. this as alls fighting intensifies in the east and south as russia prepares its onslaught on the donbas region. more than 25 hundred people very evacuated the last day or so from eastern areas. here this kyiv this is massive destruction and a large cleanup is under way. this used to be a kindergarten. luckily no one was inside when it was hit. several weeks ago. kids had evacuated. the start of the war. but as you can see here, this is a playground right next door. the local superintendent says that about tw thirds of the schools here in makara just west of kyiv have been destroyed. and local officials have found more than 130 bodies in this area since the russians retreated. craig? >> so disturbing and sad.
