6:09 am
that's two cars collided sometime during the 1:00 hour early this morning, and, yes, as you mentioned, santa clara county sheriff's office confirms to us that deputies were in pursuit of one of these vehicles. it's not clear which one. it's also not clear if the pursuit was going on at the time of the crash or if they had backed off and then the driver continued on and had this collision. the driver of one of these vehicles did die at the hospital. again, not clear if it's the suspect who was being chased by the sheriff's office or the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision. but as you can see, the intersection is shut down, and because this is involving a fatality and also the fact that there was a pursuit involved, this investigation is going to take a little longer than normal. so you can expect this intersection to be shut down for quite some time as traffic is being diverted at the intersection of first and

6:15 am
in my view, to be moving a little more quickly. he also said, i also think there's something in the idea of front-end loading. so more quickly means a rate hike in may. that's next month. front-end loading means a bigger rate hike than last time, so probably a half point instead of a quarter. at least that's what we think he's saying. the fed doesn't set interest rates, of course, as far as mortgages go, but when it hikes its interest rates, mortgage rates do go to. clearly the end of low rates are over. the 30-year now at 5.1%. that's the highest it's been since 2011. that makes homes more expensive, as your monthly payment will go up. have you seen this? a youtuber claimed he had to jump out of his airplane because his engine quit. now, this looked fake from the get-go. even the person in our newsroom said, yeah, this is totally
6:16 am
fake. the faa agrees, saying the youtuber trevor jacob deliberately crashed his own plane in the santa barbara area for youtube views. take a look. so the plane would continue to fly and eventually hit trees. thank goodness it did not burst into flames. this instantly got a thumbs down on youtube, although it got millions of views, as people watched, and any pilot who had seen this watched, and there is a procedure that you follow when your engine quits, which doesn't usually happen. but there's a long procedure that he doesn't even attempt to do. oh, the engine quit, i'm gone. >> i think you're wrong because my check engine light went on in my car and i jumped onto the freeway. >> fake, fake, fake. >> to get views, he got dropped.

it will be a good day for the movies. i watched a movie at home yesterday. that was fun. san jose right now, look at downtown. it's going to be really nice because even though we have a little bit of activity on the radar, look at the cloud cover. it's kind of a cozy feel. satellite radar, you can still see the snow coming down in the sierra and plenty of activity for southern california. so if you're going to be traveling there today, remember to check the roads and call up your friends that you're visiting or family members just to be safe. let's talk about this line of showers that continues to sort of trek on through. it is very light right now, so not exactly as heavy as yesterday. look at san rafael seeing a little bit of rain, starting to get light showers pushing through san francisco. mobile doppler radar you can see the line of showers pushing through monterey and santa cruz mountains. once this continues to move inward, we'll see it clear out and temperatures right now are in the 40s, but eventually they're going to bump up into
6:20 am
the 60s this afternoon and it will sort of feel very muggy. 64 degrees in san jose, 66 in martinez. santa rosa, 63. san francisco will top out at about 60 degrees today. here is an hour-by-hour outlook. it's very spotty all the way through about 7:00 a.m., but we do get a couple of shower spots. then it sort of starts to completely break apart. by the afternoon, this is about 12:00, any spotty shower chance clears out and then we get the cloud cover. that's going to mean a foggy start to our saturday. if you're wondering about estimated rain, this is on top of what we've already seen. just a couple hundredths of an inch, maybe a tenth for some of the higher elevations, but overall yesterday was definitely more of a rainmaker. this, so nobody better get stuck because there is a winter storm warning in effect until 11:00 a.m. today, but even when the winter storm warning clears, it's still going to be windy out
6:21 am
there and the travel is going to be treacherous. your window for travel up there is going to be tomorrow. leave nice and early, still check the roads. and then heading into sunday you'll be good to go, for sure, 67 degrees for san francisco and temperatures in inland areas are going to start to bump back up into some 80s. so sunday is going to be the perfect day to spend outdoors, but so is saturday, just a little cooler if you're going to be out and about this weekend. let's get a check of how the roads are doing, mike. >> we'll continue to follow this deadly crash investigation in the south bay. this is the intersection, the vehicles you're looking at, the crash was over on the right. one of the vehicles involved in a deadly crash on montague expressway and the reason it's still closed at forth first, extending to about rivermark, off to the right under that tree there's another vehicle involved in this crash. again, a deadly crash investigation, much more going
