at 52 degrees. looking at the temperature trend we will bump up into the 60s and by 12:00, we will be at 61. and we have tough clouds and lots of sunshine. and this is whatly be guiding you there. we will be running warmer today, and looking out ahead, and mostly pure condition, but a couple of changes for the work week ahead coming up in my full forecast. kyra. >> thank you. we will see you soon. we begin with the covid positivity rate on the rise again in san francisco. right now at 5.2%, and that is the highest since mid-february coming out of the omicron surge, and the good news is that the hospitalizations are staying low. so as we move forward, the city of san francisco is seeing some

normalcy return. today in the bay's tom jensen shows us. >> after two years of closures and cancellations, tourists are returning to union square in sizable numbers. >> it is time to tell a different story about union square. >> lauren is the owner of c. the galleries and the mom of 30 feet began ransacking the retailers. >> i was here the depths of the pandemic when everything around me was closed, and i felt unsafe in union square. >> reporter: but she says that the police chief stepped up the patrol, and brought the thieves to justice.

he has caught most of the thieves in that incident. he appreciates the police being there especially more and more visitors are in town. >> reporter: yes, i have been seeing it. >> and not only visitors, but people traveling from afar. >> i have seen a measurable difference in the last couple of months. >> that difference is the renewed sense of security bringing back crowds and vibrancy, and the signs that union scare may be recover ing from the pandemic, and the crime sprees that were keeping people away. in san francisco, tom jensen nbc bay area news. we mentioned the positivity rate climbing in san francisco, and that is happening across california.

take a look at the graph, and the statewide positivity rate is 3.2%, and that is the highest since mid-february, but it is a fraction of where it was in the height of the omicron surge. you can see the begin of the year, the positivity rate is higher than 22%. while the cases are climbing. the positive rates are leading to this change. and now, the board of transportation is expected to take up the quo of pringing the masks back, and right now, they are not required on b.a.r.t. happening now, the masks are coming off at oakland public school, and starting tomorrow, masks will be strongly recommended indoors but not required on oakland's unified

campuses. the maxes will be required inside when there is a positive case on campus. >> now, to a group of teenagers on the peninsula robbed at gunpoint while returning their from prom in unincorporated san mateo counties where the two students go to school. it was after midnight when teens had taken a charter bus to a friend's house. they were all waiting for the individual rides to pick them up. then a different colored car pulled over, and a woman hopped out, and grabbed one of the teens by the neck, and forced them to throw paperwork to the

ukranian officials are. and so they are wanting more weaponry, and russia is signaling they want to take over more land masses including moldova, and i asked about the u.n. secretary-general meeting with president putin this week, and president zelenskyy said that he is not authorized to speak on behalf of ukraine, and he is wondering what if anything can come out of those talks. and i wanted to ask you about the new tapes about minority leader kevin mccarthy asking trump to resign, and then later pledging support for him,

hazard statement in effect for the entire coast, because of a strong current rip current and sneaker waves, so it in place for 9:00 p.m., and especially for the north-facing beaches. as i mentioned we will get a dry cool front passing over the bay. looking out ahead to sunday and monday, the next storm may bring rain and snow to the bay area. we will know more in terms of the timing, but the models are lining up for the first day of may into the first monday of may. the san diego forecast is upper 60s for today, and then mid-60s and taking a look at the temperature trend, and we will cool off, and again, a dry cool front, so we are not expecting some rain, and especially the

san jose, and quickly we are seeing a couple of low clouds, but don't worry, we will get a mix of sun and clouds. the fog in san francisco, and you can see it right there, and it is going to burn off quite nicely making way for a beautiful day ahead, and this is great news because we had rain on thursday and friday and always a welcomed sight, and if we want to advance, that is fantastic. okay. in san francisco, we expected to top out in the upper 60s, and we will warm up quite nicely, and look at the fog hanging out in half moon bay, and hayward and oakland and so looking the satellite showcasing the ridge of high pressure. whenever you have a ridge of high pressure sitting over the bay, it is going to warm us up, and it is high pressureb and high pressure, and happy weather, and dries us out. so no rain in the forecast, and we have a system passing to the north on tuesday and wednesday,

and keehance of rain to north, and cool us off, but for now, we will warm up, and 78 degrees in concord and we may get a couple of low 80s for now, and interior valleys, and it is going to be beautiful, but be mindful, because there is beach hazard in effect for the entire coastline, and west/northwest beaches, and dangerous breaker waves and rip currents and the breaking waves in place until 9:00 p.m. for west to northwest-facing beaches. long range outlook, and in the next couple of days, the high pressure, looking ahead to next sunday, the monday may 2nd, and the approach, looking good in the model run, and far out, and we could be seeing more rain, and sierra snow. so we did not get a lot of

>> hand me your baby. hand me your baby. >> this happened in florida yesterday morning while evacuating people from three-story building. officers noticed a mother on the third floor balcony with the baby. the deputy scaled up to the second-floor balcony to rescue the 1-year-old girl, and the mother handed him her baby, and once the child and the deputy made it to the the ground. the firefighters then climbed back up, and rescued the mother, and the grandmother miraculously, and no one was injured. back here locally. firefighters kept a sinking sailboat from sinking in the bay. it happened between pier 27 and treasure island. crews on one of the boats spotted the fire, and they used the water to put out the flames, and again, in the one, no one was hurt. people took action for earth day on the peninsula with the
