fairfield for our commuters right here. this is moving just fine. there's no slowing on i-80 north of the cordelia junction. right now so far the freeways are moving smoothly. >> thank you very much. we have following breaking news. moments ago moderna seeking fda approval of the covid-19 vaccine for young children across the nation. the company says the injections are safe to use in children 6 months to 5 years old. both pfizer and moderna ran clinical trials during the omicron variant surge. moderna says its vaccine is 51% effective in preventing infection in six months to two years. 37% effective in ages 2 to 5. new details on a brush fire in eastern alameda county is now out. that fire started after 9:00 on the lawrence livermore national laboratory property. this is video showing the flames

from a pg&e wildfire camera. cal fire says the fire burned 50 acres before it was fully under control. no one was hurt. three people arrested in the kidnapping case of a 3-month-old boy from san jose will be in court. they're all being held in county jail without bail. >> new overnight, the mother of 3-month-old brandon now thanking those who helped police find her baby, including the man who tipped police to the van they were looking for. >> "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd. >> reporter: chris martinez was the man instrumental in helping police locate her son. jessica only speaks spanish, but for this moment, there was no

translation needed. our sister station telemundo sat down with jessica hours after she held her son following this terrifying ordeal. >> translator: i feel really happy. i feel like my life and my soul came back to my body. i would never wish this upon anyone. >> we obtained new video of a man police say is jose potillo moments after he kidnapped brandon from inside a san jose apartment. police reveal this was not a spur of the moment decision. >> it's a clear indication this was preplanned, premeditated. they had a plan they executed that day. >> reporter: police identified potillo as one of the three suspects, along with sandoval and a would plan, who according to investigators is a key player in all of this, yeah cinda

ramirez. jessica confirmed during her pregnancy she was always present and around the house and wanted to be around the baby, but when officers questioned ramirez, she quickly went from witness to a person of interest to suspect. jessica says she doesn't know the person police say took her baby, but she does know the other two suspects. >> translator: moving forward, we're never going to live in peace. there's always going to be a fear. you never know if these people might have someone else helping. >> reporter: jessica says she spent 20 agonizing hours wondering if brandon was okay, if he was being fed and changed. she has a message tonight for the suspects. >> translator: they need to get what they deserve. you should never do this to anybody. no mother should ever have to go through this. >> reporter: cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." >> we're constantly updating our website. we've uploaded the entire interview with baby brandon's

mother along with a translation. head to nbcbayarea.com to watch it. 4:35 right now. we know the pandemic is really having an impact on our everyday lives, but in an all-new report, this is highlighting the health crisis. i spoke with sherry johnson, the director of utes of wisconsin population institute. we talked about the annual county health rankings. >> in your area of the country, we learned that the highest ranking county is marin and the lowest is trinity. this is based on a model of health that includes many factors related to how long and how well we live. >> another thing about it is, here in the bay area we like to think we're outgoing, outdoorsy, people are being impacted by a number of things. one is mental health, and we know that's part of the survey. talk to us about what you used to come up with the calculation.

>> we used this model of health that shows that health is determined by many factors, things like the social and economic environment, income and education and family and social support, as well as health behaviors like how much physical activity you're getting or how much healthy food you're able to get. we also include measures of access to clinical care including, for example, how many mental health providers are in the local area. it's a multifactor model that shows many things are driving how long and how well people live in a local place. >> what about the pandemic? did we see a big impact within this year or even last year's study of the how the impact of the pandemic is affecting people's lives and health? >> what we learned really is prior to the pandemic, these social and economic conditions were creating opportunities for some people to be healthy but not for others. that was amplified and revealed in the pandemic. our data only includes deaths

from covid-19 through the end of 2020, so it may not really fully reflect the true and full impact of covid-19 for several years to come. what we do know, though, is there are solutions that we can start to put in place now that will help us to advance a just recovery that centers economic security for everyone. >> what are some of the things that we can do. while marin is at the top, which is in our area, there are others that -- other areas that may be lacking. >> exactly. the solutions that we lift up are around economic security, so things like a living wage and affordable child care. in san francisco, an average family taking care of two children is spending 27% of their income on child care expenses alone. the federal government recommends that we only spend about 7% of our income on child care. so that's a threefold difference between what's recommended and

good morning. a wind advisory remains in place for the north bay and the east bay hills until 11 a.m., gusts up to 60 miles per hour. i'll talk about the timing of the winds in my full forecast. over here the san mateo bridge is all right. there's a high wind warning on this side as well, but so far traffic is flowing past the area of overnight construction. that's great news. let's see how the business world is doing. good morning. i'm silvana henao from cnbc.

positive earnings from facebook's parent company meta. meta surging in trading, although revenue did miss, it was a volatile session with the markets using steam into the close. the nasdaq slipping for the fifth time in the past six days. in focus, reports on unemployment and first quarter gdp, earnings from caterpillar, eli lilly, mcdonald's. you can now request google remove personal information from search results including phone numbers, email and physical addresses. you can also have google remove log-in credentials if they pop up in results. previously the company limited to personal circumstances such as bank and credit card details. google will still review requests to ensure they're legitimate and won't remove references part of a public record such as a politician's

thursday morning. here we go. beautiful shot in san francisco. what you can't see is the wind we've been talking about. >> i thought you were going to say the high prices. >> but you can feel it. how is it starting today? >> it's windy, especially in the north bay. the wind advisory is in place, so i want to guide you through the timing of how gusty it's going to get, the temperatures, all of that n. downtown san jose, this is a live look -- not

as windy but it will get breezy into the afternoon. current temperatures as you head out the door in the 40s to start, 48 degrees in san jose, 49 in san francisco, 45 through napa. not much of a change when it comes to the past 24 hours. san jose a few degrees warmer, but daytime highs today will be running just a few degrees cooler. let's talk about the high wind advi advisory. this is in place for the highlighted areas. this includes santa rosa, novato, napa, the north bay. danville and concord, livermore, talking about possible gusts up to 60 miles per hour for the higher elevations. this will remain in place through 11:00 a.m. and could bring the possibility for more downed trees. let's look at the timing. we always get concerned when the winds kick up. the recent rain helped ease some of our fire concerns, but there's still plenty of dry brush out there. look at santa rosa, 32 miles per

hour. notice the gusty locations include parts of the north bay and into the east bay. not as windy for the south bay. if i fast forward to 8:30, it gets breezier in parts of san jose. around 12:30, your lunch hour, the winds start to kick up in the south bay and in the peninsula as well, 20-plus miles per hour through parts of livermore, redwood city and really strong around dinner. 5:00, 5:30, look what happens in san francisco and santa rosa. we head to the 30-plus--mile-per-hour range. it's not until tomorrow that we'll begin to see the winds back off. it will remain kind of breezy in through san francisco, san jose the winds will calm down significantly through oakland as well. daytime highs for this afternoon, the winds in the south bay, breezy from the northwest at about 17 miles per hour. we are going to see the temperatures bump up into the 60s. notice morgan hill 67, san jose

66, in through oakland 64, concord 69. antioch 71, pleasanton. look at the daytime highs, 60 degrees for mission. up through the north bay, 67 for novato, 68 in sonoma. we stay dry, it will be windy. we get a little cloud cover through early friday morning. as far as rain chances go, we kind of have to stay tuned. we're going to end the week of april on a dry note with the system to our north. but into the first week of may, maybe second week. it looks like the system may be lining up. seven-day forecast in the mid 60s. winds will remain breezy through saturday. we get a chance of drizzle heading into monday. things warm up for inland areas on saturday and sunday. let's get a check of the roads with mike. >> you mentioned the crash in

the northbound. here it is. eastbound 80 around manuel compose parkway. we did have slowing as crews were arriving on scene. injuries were noted in the call. no detail about the extent of those injuries and how long it will take to clear, looks like one lane remaining closed as you head up toward the sacramento area. that will be the direction you're driving, toward davis an fairfield. down toward the bridges, a smooth drive. there may be a new crash reported on the carquinez bridge. we haven't seen slowing, but we'll continue to track that and see if chp has anything significant going on. an easy drive as we get started with a little more traffic out of the altamont. two men now demanding better training for jack-in-the-box workers. this is after they claim those

workers refused to serve them because they are deaf. one of them sat down with us. "today in the bay's" ian cole cull has the story. >> reporter: visiting a college friend in livermore last weekend, both are deaf. ayala signed for our interview and a friend translated. >> we were like hey, let's go get something to eat. we were both hungry. >> reporter: they went to this jack-in-the-box drugt. >> i waved to try to get his attention and gestured i couldn't hear. >> go ahead -- >> they took a video of them trying to communicate with the employee after several attempts. >> so i'm pointing to the phone like, hey, can you read this. he waves the hand know, he looks like he's angry and slams the window on me. it felt like -- it was just so frustrating. >> we've blurred the employee's

face because we were unable to get a comment. at one point he says he's taking a break. >> i have to takehem was able to place an order through the call box, something they weren't able to do. >> it happened to other deaf people, i'm aware of this happening in the past. we've seen these situations come up across the country. i feel like i'm fighting for them, too, at this point. >> ayala wouldn't leave. livermore pd responded but determined it was a civil issue, not criminal. we reached out to yack in the box media relations and haven't heard back yet. ayala wanted to share the story in hopes that they'd educate employees. >> when people are hired, they should be trained on how to work with the deaf and disabled thoroughly to make sure their customers are given complete access. >> reporter: ian cull, "today in
