and then this is the big week for the fed. the federal open markets committee begins its two-day meeting tomorrow. we expect to see a big interest rate hike on wednesday, in some ways bigger is better. the idea let's get this done, make it hurt, hopefully that will bring prices down. other news, airbnb says it's ending its covid policy later this month. the cancellation rules under covid said you could cancel, no harm, no foul if you got sick. same for the homeowner. airbnb says covid is under enough control, it's dropping the policy. you shouldn't travel if you're sick, of course, but you won't be refunded if you are and lastly, gas prices, gas taxes will go up in july by three cents. the state legislature had until may 1st, yesterday, to stop it, but didn't. some republican lawmakers had urged the state stop that planned hike but couldn't get the democrats, who hold the majority, to agree.

few spots reaching the low 90s. today the high winds is going to be the main story and where you see the purples and the reds indicate where we could see wind gusts reaching over 45 miles per hour and then even going into this evening, napa stays windy as well as some of our higher elevations, then going out to the next couple of weeks, the climate predictions center putting out their outlook saying for the bay area we're looking at slightly above average temperatures no, surprise, and then as far as rain, also no surprise, that it's going to be drier than normal and that's going to be critical for the sierra, where we are hoping to get one last little blast of some rain and snow for the sierra. for the rainy season, we're transitioning now during the month of may to some of our drier summer months, where we barely get any rain. now it's possible that you could get some showers, but it starts to do this, what we've seen throughout much of the winter, the storm track staying to the north of us, although there will be a slight chance of rain on friday, most of our forecast is

dry, and our temperatures are going to be heating up by the middle of the week, but then coming back down this weekend. take a look at our temperatures for today, low 70s for the inland areas. 85 on wednesday, that's well above normal but we do see some more seasonable weather for saturday and sunday and the high winds pick up again for the end of the we happening on the roads? >> looking toward contra costa county, we saw that little thing pop up there on 242, the little thing is the hazard reported, some disabled vehicle, perhaps some debris blocking your slow lane as you travel south through the area from highway 4 cutting toward 680. concord avenue is where debris is reported. we should have a quick traffic break and should clear before the bulk of the commute starts. highway 4 at speed out of bay point toward concord and a smooth drive to the walnut creek interchange, south of there a smooth flow of traffic, altamont pass a little slowing there.

levels for two bay area counties, ah this as another county rolls out a new initiative to halt preventable covid deaths. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell is live to explain the path to zero. we're all listening. >> reporter: good morning to you, kris and marcus. later today, this afternoon, contra costa health will launch path to zero with the goal of eliminating all covid deaths that are preventable and namely what they're doing is asking people to go to their local doctor or pharmacy, get vaccinated, pick up those take-home tests so you can limit the spread of the disease and also just to be aware there are prescription medications that are free and effective if you become sick from the coronavirus. the whole path to zero is to let people know treatments are available and how to access them with the goal of preventing people from dying interest horrible disease. the cdc reclassified san mateo

and marin counties having medium levels of transmission of covid, an escalation from the low level transmissions, where the seven other bay area counties remain as you can see on the map on the tv screen. for example in san mateo county the positivity rate is near 6%, with nearly 800 new cases this past thursday and friday and many instances, the rates of infection are even higher than they were during the height of the delta variant but this newer ba.2 variant isn't as lethal as delta, which is why we aren't seeing a surge of patients in hospitals or icu. dr. monica gandhi says people should feel safer, 60% of the population has been exposed to the virus and 75% of kids under the age of 17 have built up natural antibodies. >> i have two children, they are vaccinated, i'm vaccinated and boosted and we have been living. i was on planes last week when they dropped the mask mandate and not very many people are

but a few notes. the san mateo bridge you notice opposite the other side of the screen looking at high winds, that's the note across the san mateo bridge, which you'll probably feel. that's westbound with the taillights. now the opposite direction those headlights are going east and that's tonight where we'll see the closure, all week overnight from 7:00 p.m. 'til 8:00 a.m. that's late. eastbound is counter commute. you have two lanes open for the entire span of that work that's going on all week overnight again on the san mateo bridge. dumbarton bridge completely clear of that. i circled the slowing in san jose which just started to kick in again, right on schedule just before 5:40 so we are looking at that starting to build there. one crash southbound 880 at 980, sounds like everything should clear from lanes quickly. no slowing on the sensors. we see slowing on the incline and tonight you'll see some slowing by the coliseum, the game there starts at 6:40, so we'll have pre-game traffic. back to you. >> thank you. 5:41 for you this morning.

disappeared along with an alabama corrections officer. casey white walked away from a jail west of huntsville, alabama, friday a long with a guard who said she was taking white for a mental health evaluation. investigators say he never had a doctor's appointment, so they are now trying to figure out if the correctional officer was taken hostage. a number of central agencies are trying to find the pair. the woman's patrol car was later found at a shopping center. happening tomorrow, president biden is expected to announce his first batch of presidential pardons. three pardons are expected and another 75 nonviolent drug offenders will have their prison sentences shortened, part of the broader white house effort to make the criminal justice system more fair which the president touted as a key goal in this campaign. he's also expected to announce new job training measures and grants for felons reentering society. a strike involving stanford

health care workers may be nearing an end, approximately 5,000 nurses went on strike last monday and then late friday union leaders reached a tentative deal for a new contract. nurses voted on ratifying the deal yesterday and results are expected to be revealed today. if approved, the nurses would get a 7% wage increase this year and a 5% increase next year. retirement benefits would also be increased. maybe you have a summer vacation planned but a lack of staffing has some popular destinations feeling the hot summer burn. kerry sanders explains what you may encounter on your next getaway. >> reporter: of course we're here at the beach this morning in lauderdale by the sea in florida but beach towns across the country as they come alive especially this post covid sense that we can travel again there is one thing missing, those young people taking those jobs like at the ice cream parlor, in some cases offering up to $20 an

head out on this monday morning. golden gate bridge looks good if you're making this part of your commute and in and out of san francisco, temperatures today head to 62 degrees. we'll see mid to upper 60s for the east bay but look at how much warmer it's going to be tomorrow and still windy at times, we're going to see those highs by the middle of the week top out at 91 degrees in concord and fairfield. san francisco also warming up into the upper 70s and we also still have these high winds this morning as you're heading out especially for the marin and sonoma coastline and some of our north bay hills, gusts reach over 45 miles per hour. look at the forecast, these gusty winds continue as a cold front moves close by and we're looking at high winds for parts of the north bay into tomorrow morning, once again we can see the rain and all of the gusty winds that are going to be nearby in the forecast for the next couple days. we warm up but there may be a slight chance of rain on friday. we'll keep an eye on that, hopefully it will dip farther south into the bay area but
