first more on ukraine. a stunning new statistic was just released overnight. since the beginning of the invasion, more than 5 1/2 million people have fled ukraine. erin mclaughlin is on the front lineses with the the latest. including a new sign of hope from the war torn country. erin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. after months of enduring hellish condition, more than 100 ukrainian women and children are waking up this morning in comparative safety hoping that the rest can make it out of the besieged port city of mariupol alive. this morning in mariupol, a rare glimmer of hope. more than 100 women and children escaping what's been described as the place worse than hell. the bomb shelter on old steel plant. for weeks the stronghold has been bombarded by russian forces

these are newly released images from an alabama jail showing 6'9", 260 pound capital murder suspect casey white before he vanished friday. this morning a growing man hunt and mounting questions whether a corrections officer may have helped him escape. >> no way really other than that she assisted him. >> according to authorities, the officer vicky white said transporting the inmate, casey white, no relelgs, from jail to the courthouse for a mental health evaluation. she also said she planned to go to a medical appointment after dropping him off both claims were not true investigators say. especially stunning because vicky white had been named employee of the year four times. she violated policy the sheriff says because two sworn deputies were supposed to be with the dangerous prisoner while he was transported. >> the fact that she violated

policy, which is something she'd never done she has an unblemished record. >> vicky white is 56 and a widow with no children she's been with the department 17 years but the sheriff says the day before she went missing, she submitted her retirement papers investigators later found the officers patrol car abanded at this shopping center. >> all indications are she assisted him escape. the question we're troying answer and may not be able to answer until we get back safely is did she do that willingly or someone from outside threaten her. >> casey white was serving time for a 2015 crime spree including a home invasion and carjacking in 2020 he was also charged of two counts of capital murder white later pleaded not guilty and tried to escape the same

jail he left friday. >> he's got the guy. we know he's a dangerous person. he's confessed and how did he get out >> regardless how he got out, the inmate could not be armed with the officer's service handgun and be very dangerous. no one has heard from the officer since friday her phone went to voice mail >> thanks. >> tom llamas joins us now with the latest at the severe weather and that video. >> the video is completely wild. >> yeah. >> good morning. we have it for you this morning. the cleanup under way after a dave staying ef 3 tornado tore through south central kansas this drone video catching a rare glimpse of the twister the images are stunning. you can see debris sucked into the air as the funnel forms. seconds later the tornado starts tearing through homes. the weather service says the twister packed winds up to 165 miles per hour and look at the damage right there. it was on the ground for 21 minutes. in all more than a thousand

buildings were damaged and several people hurt. >> you have seen a tornado but never like that. yeah dylan is tracking the threat of even more severe weather in for al looking for the forecast good morning. >> i've never seen it like that unless it is like a simulation thinking about the dynamics of a tornado. like a blenlder all happening at once we do have a chance of more severe storms that could trigger tornados later today activity across nebraska, kansas, stretching into the oklahoma where we do have a lot of cloud to ground lightning but nothing too severe at this point. however later this afternoon we could see possibility of some tornados winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour or higher and very large hail perhaps two inches or more in diameter tomorrow the threat of severe storms shifts to the east. the as lesser threat, a lesser chance of getting the tornados but they are still a risk. but it is more like the gusty winds over 60 miles per hour and the larger hail. then wednesday it jumps right back to the oklahoma city area so again on wednesday we're

>> we've seen increase in melanoma cases the past decade or so. a surprising number. maybe close to a third more than previous decade. five year survival rate if you catch it is like 99%, correct. >> it is so we have lot of new diagnostic tools available here that are working quite well for diagnosis of melanoma. things like artificial intelligence and even your cell phone. teledermatology. you can actually take a photo of your mole and look for irregularities it is easier to see on your cell phone. >> you take a picture of your mole and then what? >> and then you look at i. and then you can follow it you can send it to your dermatologist. or you can upload it to an app and it can do data analytics on your mole. there is also a cool new way to determine if you are mole is at

risk for melanoma. and this is the smart stickers and a smart sticker is literall and a piece of tape that's specialized. and let's just assume there was a mole here on your hand we would apply this sticker on to your hand we would draw a circle around this tiny little growth that is right here and then we would remove it. we would repeat this, put it on to a special board, send this board to a lab they can then look at rna and dna in the mel. >> so you can do it all yourself. >> this is an inoffice procedure but it can save you from a surgical procedure and it is another tool in the tool box >> the best way is using old

it was wednesday. >> it was wednesday. it was unbelievable. >> give us a little time -- what happened >> well the thing about a broadway musical opening and i opening for my one man show. >> sure. >> is that if a film opens, you know, you have a film premier. the work is done about six months before you are finished and you just watch the movie and hope that it played well a broadway show, you have got to bring it and our cast is amazing. the show is terrific and we brought it. and the audience went wild and it was really thrilling. of all the things i've ever done, opening a broadway musical was really spectacular it was very something different. >> you have done it all. hosted the oscars, you have done it all. >> they were all really exciting. >> yeah. >> and you get yourself ready for them but there was something about our team effort with this group, going out there in a character i've lived with since 1984 and now we have this life
