it's burned nearly 300 structures forcing many to evacuate their homes. >> it's our parents, grandparents. they are from there. it's been hard. >> reporter: now it's feared more will have to flee as the fire jumped a marriage major highway on sunday. >> extreme temperatures is extremely concerning and i need as many people out of the evacuated areas as possible safely. >> reporter: residents near the los alamos nuclear lab facility warned they may have to leave their homes with the fire three miles away. others forced to watch helplessly as columns of smoke and fire spreads towards their homes. >> scary blowing right towards all of our properties up here. >> reporter: they are using specialized water tankers known

offer extra protection as protesters were demonstrating outside of justice samuel alito's virginia home last night the senate voted to extend security to supreme court justices immediate family members. that bill now goes to the house. protests have taken place in the neighborhoods of three conservative justices. they have been peaceful and it's unclear whether anyone was home during the demonstrations. democrats are trying to extend the abortion protections of roe v. wade as a federal law. they don't have enough votes to pass it, but will hold a senate vote tomorrow anyway to get all members on the record. the senate's top republican slammed the effort. >> just gives americans yet another reminder that the radicals are running the show. >> we need to make sure that every single voter understands that the republican party and mitch mcconnell does not believe that their daughters, that their mothers, that their sisters have rights to make fundamental life and to death decisions.

>> reporter: so far this year ten states enacted measures to restrict abortion rights while eight have made changes that expand access. monday officials in new york and chicago announced additional funding for abortion providers and organizers. both aim to help boost access, particularly for lower income communities. the supreme court of course is expected to hand down its final decision in this case next month, and we could see a patchwork of abortion policies take effect in states across the country. francis. >> chris pallone, thank you. the manhunt for a former corrections officer and murder suspect in alabama has come to a tragic end. after more than a week on the run vicky nguyen and kasie hunt were captured and taken into custody monday. u.s. marshals apprehended the fugitives in evansville, indiana, 270 miles north of the lauderdale county jail. >> the u.s. marshals were in pursuit of a black ford pickup.

i think f ford 150. casey white was driving that week. vicky white was a passenger. the pickup truck wrecked. >> after they were captured both casey white and vicky white were taken to a local hospital where vicky white died. vicky suffered a self-inflicted gunshot after the crash. an autopsy is expected to be performed today. casey white was injured in the crash but is expected to survive. officials say the two had a quote special relationship for at least the past two years. casey white is expected to be returned to alabama to face a capital murder charge in a 2020 death. the omicron subvariant is going through a fifth wave in the pandemic. covid cases trending upward with the northeast getting hit
