fairfield but mostly upper 80s for martinez. we will talk about the things going on this weekend and the forecast coming up in a few minutes already thank you. an early tweet from the world's richest man, never a dull moment with elon musk. he is saying his deal to buy twitter is on hold. >> he followed that tweet with another one saying he was still committed to the deal. mixed messages and a strange reason this came up. musk was reacting to a new report that shows 5% of users are fake. that's less than thought. that would seem to be good news but for musk tweets on hold pending details that spam fake accounts do represent less than 5% of users. a few hours later he adds still committed to acquisition. why would he care about a

report twitter's spam bot problem wasn't as big as we thought? fixing the problem was going to be one of musk's priorities after he took over twitter. he seems to be indicating maybe i don't have to buy twitter if one of the big things i wanted to fix isn't broken in the first place. i can't get inside musk's head but i will tell you, we will get up very early in the morning to go over what we will talk about on today in the bay. one of the things we were going to talk about was that musk was way over paying for twitter. our artists were making graphics that said musk is paying too much for twitter. musk was offering $54 a share for a company wall street says wasn't worth that much, far less after twitter's poor financial reports last month, worth even less now after he's cast doubt on the deal. is musk just driving the price down backing out of a deal based on what most of us would think is good news? twitter shares are down 12%

55% according to the dea. ginger, you crisis. what are they saying t this? >> reporter: what they're saying is it is really making or shedding light into how much fentanyl is out there and how lethal it can be for users. the discoveries may not make a significant dent but for the meantime they're making streets a little bit safer. it was a terrifying discovery days ago by alameda sheriffs department. 15 pounds fentanyl, one kilo heroine and $139,000 cash inside a car at a high school parking lot in oakland. the even more alarming part of the bust, the drugs resembled candy. >> the consumption of fentanyl, either swallowing it or inhaling it intranasally, that can result in overdose for somebody who is not expecting to use fentanyl for sure.

>> reporter: another bust in santa clara county seized fentanyl poised for 28,000 lethal doses. a huge discovery weeks ago again in alameda county, a narcotics task force seized over $4 million of illicit fent hayward. do the busts make a dent in the crisis? dea says the synthetic opioid accounts for nearly two thirds of all overdose deaths. >> it is potency. however, it is also the rapidness of its effect. with as few as three, four, five, 15 minutes. >> reporter: from san francisco to santa clara and across the bay area, fentanyl deaths are climbing. >> fentanyl is between 80 and 100 times more potent than heroine or opiates. there is no safe amount of fentanyl that anyone should be

using. >> reporter: more alarming numbers putting really that bigger picture into context shared by experts. in 2019 the number of fentanyl deaths in santa clara was five. that jumped to 135 over in 2021 and in san francisco over 90% or around 90% of 580 opioid related deaths were fentanyl related. the numbers are alarming, marcus, and this is really shedding light on the crisis and how it is impacting even younger people. >> the growth of the numbers is serious this problem is. ginger, thank you.on a pilot pr pass that would be compatible with all 26 other bay area transit agencies. bart's financial director says

tomorrow we really start to see the temperatures cranking up for tri valley and toward fairfield. 93 degrees but san jose is in the mid 80s. a little warm but not too uncomfortable. we cool off for the end of the weekend, sunday reaching 77 in dublin, novato, san francisco in the upper 60s. sunday night will be super moon because it is closest to the earth and it blood moon because of the red color that will happen during the eclipse. a flower moon because it is may and everything is blooming. it starts at 8:06 p.m. sunday night and we'll see it peaking between 8:30 and 9:54. then back to the normal color at 10:50. that will be something to watch for before heading to the work on monday. it looks like skies should be mostly clear. there will be storm systems

passing to the north but our weather is dry through next week and our seven-day forecast shows our temperatures will be above normal with highs in the low 80s today reaching upper 80s tomorrow, 80 sunday. then we'll see highs in the upper 70s and low 80s as well early next week. how is it looking for the commute? it's looking already. this is not super flower blood moon eclipse. this is the sunrise at the bay bridge toll plaza. you see the back up. that's formed in the last ten minutes. overall you see the green censors dominating the map because it is a lighter commute. san jose is not showing that yet. maybe in the next 20 to 30 minutes as we get through the area. slowing just about greenville out of the altamont pass, a circle where there was a disabled vehicle. that did clear and so did the slowing. that's great. recovery despite earlier crashes in concord as well as

it is expected to bring thousands to the area, so many in fact that at panhandle park a large mobile cell tower is being installed to help handle expected influx of cell phone users. with that many people, parking is going to be an issue. we spoke with a spokesman for bart and he says the transit system is ready to handle the masses and has plans for some major routes. >> we are opening early for beta breakers. what's important to know is we are only opening nine stations, and we'll have the trains that will stop at embarcadero and the nine stations are listed on our website. there is free parking. you need to have a clipper card or load clipper on to your phone. >> reporter: it's important to note, talking to jimmy, if you do plan to ride bart, you will need to have your mask. the mask mandate is in place until at least july. it's probably best to keep it in your pocket, on your wrist,

airport in february when authorities say vape cartridges containing hash oil was found in her luggage. she can face up to ten years in prison and she's still awaiting pretrial hearing. u.s. leaders believe she's being wrongfully detained. new details in the january disappearance of 24-year-old oakley woman alexis gabe. investigators returned to this home where the family says gabe's ex boyfriend lives. in video shot yesterday the door appears to have been kicked in and investigators walked out with what appeared to be evidence bags. they believe gabe was last seen at the home and they are looking into possibility of foul play. a $10,000 reward is offered for information that can help find her. happening today, vta is set to finish demolition work at the site of the deadliest shooting in bay area history. crews will use a wrecking ball to knock down what's left of the rail yard building in san jose where six of nine victims

were killed in last year's rampage. survivors who once worked there have been at other locations since returning to their jobs and eventually, vta may than to replace the building with a new facility and workers hope a memorial for their colleague. evacuations are still in place at this hour as that fire is still burning in southern california. we are getting a look at the tense moments one family experienced as they were trying to escape their home. take a look at this. you can see the girl running with the mask on. this video was taken wednesday just moments after the coastal fire sparked. the family was able to make it out safely. their home is one of at least 20 destroyed by those flames. firefighters are making progress. the fire is now 15% contained. 200 acres so far have burned. there is no word on how the

springs. we are awaiting any word of damage. also breaking, president of united arab emirates died at the age of 73. flags are being flown at half staff in the country. he died after suffering a stroke in 2014. since then he was largely out of the public eye. the country announced a 40 day period of mourning and three day suspension of work which begins today. we take you to washington this morning. that's where president biden is meeting today with mayors, police chiefs, other leaders from around the country. they're going to discuss how cities are handling the $2 trillion provided in federal pandemic relief. the bay area for example, invested $600,000 in funds to support community violence intervention. that includes a neighborhood watch program and three limited term police assistants. unexpected delay for america's plan to send more arms to ukraine.

the dea says the synthetic opioid accounts for nearly two thirds of all overdose deaths. that is true here in the bay area with significant jumps in fentanyl-related deaths from 2015 to 2021. concern is growing that younger people are being targeted. >> it is the potency. however, it is also the rapidness of its effect. with fentanyl, death can occur in minutes, as few as three, four, five, 15 minutes. >> fentanyl is between 80 and 100 times more potent than heroine or opiates. there is no safe amount of fentanyl that anyone should be using. >> really alarming numbers in santa clara county as well as san francisco. hopefully, we can see more progress in this fight against the fentanyl crisis.
