your saturday afternoon. with that tornado, that heat really helps to fuel the storms, today we have 35 million people at risk, all the way from texas into greenville, maine, 2,000-mile stretch there, we could see tornadoes possible and hail. we'll see a severe threat tomorrow. i was thinking about how cool it was at the top of the week, this quick switch is going to be a shock to the system, i can't stress enough staying hydrated and staying cool. meanwhile, we want to turn to our top story in seoul, where president biden is attending a state dinner with south korea's leader. earlier today the two discussing relations with the neighboring countries, china and north korea. peter is traveling with the president. in seoul this morning. this is president biden's first trip to asia and there have

already been plenty of headlines. >> reporter: the state dinner as you noted taking place right now, punctuating this day of diplomacy, focusing on the nuclear threat from north korea. president biden and south korea's president said their shared goal remains the complete denuclearization of north korea, the president offered an on live branch of sort. president biden laying a wreath at south korea's national cemetery, paying tribute to those fallen soldiers. his trip here comes as u.s. intelligence warns that north korea may be preparing to conduct a missile test. today consulting with south korea's newly inaugurated president. offering aid amid a covid crisis.

factory that will create 2,000 new jobs in texas. that will create critically needed semiconductors. part of an effort to relieve the shortages that have helped fuel skyrocketing prices as it relates to north korea, president biden's south korea counterpart said for military exercises. >> peter, i do want to follow up with you on some other news that i know you're tracking, a federal judge blocked the biden administration from lifting the title 42 the trump-era covid restrictions. what is white house saying? >> reporter: the white house

says it disagrees with that decision, the justice department already announced it's going to appeal the decision. it's important though because it delays opening the doors of migrants waiting more than two years to get into the country. politically the ruling may actually help the white house giving them more time to figure out how to deal with that expected surge of migrants. >> peter we appreciate you bringing us all the headlines. we'll see you again in a little bit. now to bracking news the effort to get much-needed baby formula, more than a million bottles are expected to land on u.s. soil from switzerland, a military operation, bringing some relief for desperate parents and their children.

this morning, russia claims to have taken complete control of the steel plant in mariupol. with the last ukrainian forces having surrendered to russian forces. president zelenskyy said the remaining soldiers have been given permission to save their lives and leave. it's unclear how or when they'll return home. this as russian forces advanced in the donbas transforming what was once the country's industrial heartland into a living hell as ukrainian officials ordered the entire region of luhansk. >> in the donbas region, almost every day there are hamlets,

towns and villages that are changing hands. the russians are still well behind of where we wanted them to be. >> reporter: in kharkiv, ukraine collect the bodies of russian soldiers. still their assault on kharkiv continues, striking this cultural center in another town in the region, injuring at least seven, including an 11-year-old child. overnight, bombing a market near the center of town. ominous signs that the russians remain on the doorstep of ukraine's second largest city. this morning, we tried to visit that market to see the aftermath of that attack for ourselves but as we approached we heard the sounds of round explosions and were forced to turn around. reports of heavy shelling in the suburbs of kharkiv. officials telling us those

this morning, after wrapping up a news conference with the country's new leader. that's where we begin this morning. peter is there with the very latest. hi again, peter. >> reporter: president biden joined this state dinner here in seoul tonight, he heads to tokyo tomorrow, the president earlier

meeting with south korea's president discussing how to best address the north korean nuclear threat and making some news saying the u.s. has offered covid relief including vaccines to north korea through existing distribution programs. the white house official telling me the most recent offer actually came just last week, the u.s. i'm told also offered to give the vaccines to china to pass along to north korea. president biden is not ruling out a future meeting with kim jong-un saying he would be open to it if the north korean dictator is serious and sincere. also this morning, rudy giuliani has met with the house committee investigating the january 6th attack on the u.s. capitol according to two sources familiar with the matter. one of the sources said that he testified virtually for more than nine hours on friday.

he was originally subpoenaed back in january for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and prompting claims of election fraud. and tiger woods is moving on the next round of the pga championship. the golf star pulled off a gritty comeback on friday to make the cut by one shot after battling pain in his leg and falling behind in the first round, this is woods' second official event since suffering that devastating leg injury last year, he previously made the cut at the masters in april, woods is now 12 shots behind the leader. heading into round three today. among those who didn't make it to the next round, masters champion scottie shefler. concern is growing around the world over monkeypox, with at least one case confirmed here in the u.s. the rare virus has been reported in at least 12 western countries. and health officials are scrambling to find out why the outbreak is happening now.

saturday, may 21st. i'm kira clapper. a 7-year-old was hit on his bike and killed. it happened in fremont. our video of the scene shows the nissan came to a stop on the front lawn of a home. the boy was wearing a helmet when he was hit but later died at the hospital. we briefly spoke to that boy's family. >> that really is like -- love me a lot. we had a bonding feature. >> police say the driver did stay at the scene and did cooperate with officers. no word on whether they will face charges. also in fremont, police and firefighters were caught in a stand off that lasted about seven hours yesterday. firefighters responding to an apartment fire couldn't get inside to fight the fire because the man inside said he had a gun. fortunately the fire didn't spread. police responded for backup and had a struggle with the man.
