california. good morning. saturday, may 21st. 7:00 on the dot. a live look outside. a little fog out there below the golden gate bridge. you can see the sun trying to break through. it should be a lovely saturday. thank you for starting your weekend with us. i'm kira klapper. meteorologist vianey arana joins us with a quick look at the micro climate forecast. >> good morning, kira. we are anticipating a really comfortable nice weekend ahead. the temperatures will be warmer

today. take a live look now in downtown san jose. clear skies. into the afternoon, the biggest noticeable difference will be the warmer temperatures. we are starting out in the 40s and 50s right now. san jose 55 out the door. dublin 48. oakland 53. san francisco in the 50s. when it comes to the wind, not as gusty. no wind advisories or warnings in effect today but we will notice the gusty conditions in the higher elevations, north bay and everyone else will be breezy. a nice sea breeze around the coastline 10, 15 miles per hour. what to expect? a warming trend. back to you. a see you in about 15 for that. we begin with breaking news this morning in russia's ongoing war on ukraine. russia has declared it is banning entry to morning 900 americans and that includes president joe biden, vice

president kamala harris and more politicians and senior government officials. the russian foreign ministry said this is russia's response to the constantly imposed sanctions by the u.s. anest bay family is grieving the tragic loss of a 7- year-old boy after he was hit by a car and killed riding his bike. it happened in fremont at month rose avenue and jamestown road. ian cull spoke to neighbors who say the intersection has become dangerous. >> reporter: an entire block of this fremont neighborhood is heartbroken. a 7-year-old boy riding his bike was hit by this car around 3:45 according to witnesses. the nissan came to a stop at the front lawn of this house. the boy was taken to stanford children's hospital where he died from his injuries. we spoke to the boy's family.

>> it hurt me because that is really -- love me a lot. we had a really bonding feature. >> the boy was wearing a helmet when it happened. one neighbor captured the footage. it was too graphic to show anyone else. >> very disturbing, heartbroken thing. >> reporter: many neighbors complained to the city about cars speeding down montrose avenue, asked for stop signs and speed bumps in the past. >> i used to bike here a lot, play on the street. it's really dangerous. >> all the neighbors were talking about we need to work on something that will stop people drive so reckless and fast in the residential area. >> reporter: the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers. tonight traffic investigators are trying to discover what led to the collision, if speed played a factor. the answers will come sooner than the pain felt on this street ever goes away.

ian cull, today in the bay. also yesterday in fremont a man armed with a gun barricaded himself in a burning condo. it lasted about seven hours. firefighters responding to the fire couldn't get inside to fight the fire because the man said he had a gun. police responded for back up and had a struggle with the man. they say he suffered a medical emergency as was sent to the hospital. no update on his condition. new this morning, a woman is dead after being hit by a wrong way driver on an east bay freeway. it happened around 2:00 on highway 24 near the broadway off-ramp in oakland. the chp said they received the call about a wrong way driver shortly before the crash. when they responded, they found the wrong way mercedes hit a car full of people head on. the woman that died and the victim's car. three others were taken to the

hospital with major injuries. the driver of the mercedes man is in the hospital after he was hit by a car while he was riding his horse in east contra costa county. it happened around 9:30 on delta road between byron highway. the cmp said the driver hit and killed the horse and critically injured the man riding it. the man was airlifted to the hospital. the driver was arrested under suspicion of dui. we are learning more about the two men killed in an officer-involved shooting in san francisco. it happened before 8:00 p.m. thursday night in the mission bay neighborhood. officers were responded to a report of two men involved in an aggravated assault. right now it's unclear if they died from bullets fired by police or fired by one another. the men who were shot were 57 and 49 years old.

no officers were hurt. they plan to host a town hall to address the shooting within the next week and a half. turning to a declaration from san francisco's catholic archbishop triggering a clash with one of the top politicians in the state. archbishop salvatore cordileone ordered that bay area catholic churches deny communion to house speaker nancy pelosi unless she publicly renounces her support for abortion rights. this as city, state and federal leaders toured planned parenthood yesterday. it was for if changes were needed if the supreme court strikes down roe versus w ade. supporters of reproductive rights were quick to condemn the archbishop's announcement. >> for him to try to somehow

pressure speaker pelosi or any other catholic to change their views on this issue by denying them an opportunity to exercise their faith is wrong. >> it's unfortunate. someone's spirituality is sacred and private. >> speaker pelosi said in interviews that being denied communion would be very serious. we reached out to her office for a response but have not heard back. turning to parents looking for baby formula', they may soon get relief. according to the white house, the first flight bringing formula in from europe is expected this weekend. it will be the equivalent of 1 1/2 million eight ounce bottles of formula from nestle. the national out of stock average rose to 45% last week, the highest level yet. bay area health leaders are offering new advice when it comes to dealing with the baby formula shortage. if you are nursing, continue to

do that if possible. you can talk to your child's doctor about substituting brands of formula. they say to avoid making your own, watering it down or using expired formula. they suggest applying to government assistance programs such as wick. health leaders say they will continue to monitor the shortage and provide updates as new information is available. happening today, hundreds of people are expected to gather in san jose for the march of dimes march for babies. the event aims to highlight the health quarter gap among pregnant women in california. organizers say the preterm birth rate among black women is 44% higher than the rate among all other women. the march will begin at 9:00 this morning at san jose history park. well, it was another electric night at chase center. game 2 of the western conference finals versus the dallas mavericks was star-

first, developing news out of michigan. a tornado killed at least one person and injured nearly four dozen others. you can see in the video from yesterday, the tornado churning through gaylord, michigan. 14,000 in michigan were without power. the governor declared a state of emergency. president joe biden is in south korea and held a bilateral meeting with the country's president. this comes during his first trip to asia since taking office. president biden thanked the south korean president for a warm welcome saying he was honored to visit. biden went on to speak about the importance of the united states and south korea's security partnership saying the countries have shared values including a firm opposition to changing borders by force. moving forward to the pandemic, children 5 to 11 years old qualify to get a

booster shot after the cdc signed off on the booster shots earlier this week. kids that received the last dose five months ago can get the booster. it's worth noting only about 30% of all children in that age range are fully vaccinated in california. that number goes down to about 25% nationwide. house leaders are urging parents to check county websites to find places taking appointments. some bay area school districts are bringing back mask mandates. public schools in berkeley and peed month decided to require masks indoors for the rest of the school year. the decision affects more than 10,000 east bay students. rising covid cases and advice from public health officers are behind the decision. the mask mandate goes back into effect on monday. the school year ends soon, june 3rd. if you are looking to get out this weekend, there are some events in the bay area you

advice. thank you so much. we have been there. too lazy to cook and pay took much to get it delivered. a mother in texas didn't have the choice. her 3-year-old son ordered 31 cheeseburgers from door dash on mcdonald's. this is how she said it happened. >> he likes to take pictures of himself. he was doing that. and he -- i thought i locked the phone. apparently i didn't. door dash came with 31 cheeseburgers. >> grand total, nearly $92. that kid gave the driver a $16 tip. his mom decided to spread the love and offered up the burgers for free on her facebook page. very nice. let's check in with meteorologist vianey arana who joins us with the full micro climate forecast.

we are expecting pleasant weather. a live look at san francisco. this is a shot that you can see a little bit of haze there. but it will eventually get really sunny and comfortable and warm inland. depending on what kind of weather you want. cool, hang out at the coasted line. beautiful day for the beach. satellite and radar, things are calm. a warming trend ahead. no chance of rain for this weekend but i will give you an extended outlook in a few seconds. currently temperatures are in the 40s and 50s out the door and the wind gusts, we will get a of sea breeze around the coastline. look at san francisco, 20 miles per hour winds about 3:30. santa rosa, 22. santa rosa, 15 to 20 miles per hour winds and winds calm in the overnight hours to sunday. another thing to be mindful of is the allergy forecast. olive and grasses between moderate and high today and tomorrow. weeds and mold are low.

when he was hit by later died at the hospital. neighbors tell us that they have complained to the city about cars speeding in that area and have asked for stop signs and speed bumps in the past. we spoke briefly with the boy's family. >> it hurts me because i -- he is really -- he love me a lot. we had a very bonding feature. >> the driver stayed at the scene and did cooperate with officers. no word on whether they will face charges. turning to a declaration from san francisco's catholic archbishop triggering a clash with one of the top politicians in california. archbishop salvatore cordileone ordered bay area catholic churches deny communion to house speaker nancy pelosi unless she publicly renounces

her support for abortion rights. planned parenthood reports that it has seen a spike of women from out of state coming to california for services. supporters of reproductive rights were quick to condemn the archbishop's announcement. >> for him to try to somehow pressure speaker pelosi or any other catholic to change their views on this issue by denying them an opportunity to exercise their faith is wrong. >> it's unfortunate. someone's spirituality is sacred and private. >> speaker pelosi said in interviews that being denied communion would be serious. we have reached out to her office for a response but have not heard back. let's check in with meteorologist vianey arana for one last check of the micro climate forecast. >> i do want to give you a

final look at the seven day planner. look at this. today upper 60s in san francisco. we will get a nice sea breeze, winds from the west 15 to 20 miles per hour. heading into sunday, we keep the temperatures in the upper 60s. this will set us up for a lovely warming trend into monday with temps starting to bump up to the mid-70s. if you are in inland areas, it will be rather warm. be mindful if you are out and about into the afternoon, be mindful of your pets. interior valleys can expect temperature inspects the upper 80s. monday and tuesday, we start to see a bump up into the 90s. we will keep the clear conditions as well then we cool off into friday with a system approaching from the north. that will likely cool us off but a chance of rain. for now, it will be hot. >> oh, yeah, hot. thanks so much. thanks to all of you for making us a part of your morning. no 5 or 6:00 p.m.
