grab robbers targeting a southern california jewelry store. this is "nba bay area today." a good morning to you on this monday. i app marcus washington. i am laura garcia. we start with the team coverage on the high fire danger. we're going check with kari hall with the red flag warning. what parts of the bay area knees the most alerts, kari? well, it's salano county heading northward. that's where we see the hot temperatures and winds increasing late morning in to this evening and continuing through tomorrow. as we go hour-by-hour with the wind gusts forecast, we're still looking at an on shore wind flow to start the morning. notice how fairfield is getting the wind, and that's going increase and bring in the humidity for the

area. as the winds increase, we're dealing with well above normal temperatures, and that's going to be something that we will have to monitor with the hot and dry condition is conditions we're going talk more about the forecast, but the team coverage continues with bob that's tracking an active brush fire. bob, just another example of how dangerous the conditions are. >> reporter: yeah, you can understand where they're issuing a red flag warning that will go in to affect at 1 1:00 until 8:00 tomorrow night through most of salano county. that includes the city of fairfield, o. it does not include the city of value value. that means that you have the dry fuel out there and the wind gusts predicting to be high as 35 miles an hour. conditions are turning conducive

to fast spreading wildfires. case in president this is the fire that started this weekend. all evacuations have since been lifted, and as of last night this fire is 85% contained. to remind you of the importance of preparing you and your family if you live in or up against the wild land s. this is the removal of growth and trimming of dead trees. create an action plan on how you and your family will evacuate and make sure that everybody in the family has a supply kit. that includes a three day supply of non-perishable food and three gallons of water per person. reporting live bob redell in the bay area. >> thank you. we have updates on the changing in the conditions. make sure to follow us.

the handle is at kari hal handle. two woman were kill and two others hurt. >> yeah, today in the bay chris sanchez joining us now with the details. chris, were the woman inside or outside of the vehicle? >> the woman were outside and then in fact on the sidewalk when they were hit by at least one vehicle that may have been hit by another one. it was right in the middle of the amp. i want to show you the scene as it was happening. this is where police say that it looks like a taxi driver crashed in to another vehicle. that hit the two woman that died, and then another pedestrian as well. it happened near at third in the middle of the afternoon. witnesses told us that they were shocked, but sadly at least one of them said that they were not surprised. >> i did not see it. i just heard about it.

>> a lot of people do take the turns. that happens very often. >> we talked to the san francisco police that said that both drivers are cooperate being the investigation. at this point, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor. we also talked with the newly appointed supervisor for the area who says that this area has had a number of crashes. now, we will tell you that in the city up to this point this year in 2022, three other pedestrian were killed on the roadways. just for some comparison, 19 pedestrian have been killed on city streets so far this year. kris sanchez in the bay area. >> thank you, kris. >> when this happened, we send an alert out many the app. it's a good time to download the app. you can download it for free on

the apple or android phone. biden wrapping up his first official trip to asia. today he joined the prime minister in condemning russia's innovation of ukraine. the trip's focus is to strengthen american tie in the region to counter china anesthesia rising influence. >> the united states remains fully committed to japan's defense, and we welcome the opportunity to work more closely together in an increasingly challenging security environment. >> the president is also announcing a new economic agreement with several countries in the region to foster open trade. it's expected to help ease supply chain that's driving up cost here and abroad. the moment that employees were forced to step in when a group of thieves tried to pull off a smash and grab robbery. this happened yesterday. the employees quickly reacting and punching and kicking and chasing

the people out of the store. everyone inside is okay. it does not appear that the thieves made off with anything. >> quiet frightening. extending the current admission policy for the high school. they have been admitted by lottery and not academic performance. when the policy change first happened, it outraged some people and even a driving force in the recall school members. they're expected to ask the board to extend the current lottery based admission process. the board must decide if the policy remains in place for the long term. if you plan to vote in the primary, you still not have registered yet, get ready. today is the deadline. the election happens 15 days from now on june 7th. mailed applications must be postmarked by today. election day is june 7th.

and beyond. it's so nice out there this evening. we're going to start out with the temperatures in the mid-60s. notice the wind gusts at 24 miles an however. it's very windy out there in the park. once again, that's the reason why we're under this weather alert. for some areas in the city, it's still going to be cool and high humidity. you do want to plan the day around the heat. there's a spotlight and we start out with the temperatures at 76 degrees. you want to go to the park and get in the outdoor activities. a look at the trend. at 3:00, we're at 91. very hot out there as we head for the lower 90s in fairfield. there's going to be a huge difference in the temperatures from the coastline. we will be in the mid-60s to parts of the bay where we have the 70s. upper 80s for the valley. once again, the low 90s for the hottest spots inland. it gets hotter tomorrow. we will talk about that in a few minutes. where we can find the slightly loser gas. >> yeah, let's start in the

south bay. we have the speedway express on the street, and then on the peninsula, it's the 76th and that's the 589. i know that's not as good as the others. that's way better at the 637 that we saw. the roadways and freeways are looking really good. this crash in fremont, i told you that we would check on that. that's south bound 880 pass the mission there. everything looks like it's on the shoulder and should be clear soon. no slowing on the sensors. looking at the rest of the bay, getting in to san francisco a smooth drive on the bay bridge and then golden gate as well. 101 around and then the irk isle. a road side fire and trees i'm tracking this. that is just a small issue, but it will let that spread. meanwhile, over to scott. coming up today in the bay, the lucy economic numbers. are things as bad as they think? let's start the monday morning

ask is good monday morning to you. we're under a weather alert due to the high fire danger. the north bay we're watching especially. as you head out to work, we're starting out with mild temperatures. low 50s here. we will see a mostly sunny sky today. temperatures warming up quickly heading for the mid-70s at noon. we will talk about that spot in salano county where we're still dealing with the fire and high fire danger coming up. not sure if you can see this on the right side of the screen. the flashing lights. they're in the parking lot there. it's a crew that's clearing some overnight west. this is westbound heading in to the north bay 101. that's clear. 101 in san francisco a couple of new incidence. we will track them coming up. well, good morning. very happy monday to you. lauren mentioned that biden continues his trip in asia including a trip to honda. the south korean car maker says that it will build more factories in america near savannah, georgia creating

more than 8,000 jobs. you can see the president announcing that. we're expecting the better day today on the stock market than we have had lately. the markets did trade to the positive on friday. barely. the dow closed eight point s higher. i want to expand on the asian economic deal that the white house just announced. they're light on detail, but we know that japan, india and south korea are involved. it's important after the defeat of the trans pacific partnership or tpp. some people did not like the tpp. donald trump did not. he removed us from the treaty. the strength of that did helped us to gang up on china. china was not asked to join. the new agreement, as small as it is, it helps countries try to compete. everybody is worried about the economy and inflation. ross store says that they're having trouble with sales saying that high prizes are having customers

looking for deals. they're #k078 pairing to it the recession of 2009. target said that the inflation was hurting taushlth because target was not passing the cost down to customers or not yet. try to keep perspective that house value is up 656% of americans own their own home. jobless claims the lowest that they have been since 69, factories are working faster and harder than they have in decades. we talked last week about a potential bare market on the s&p. look at this chart. the index closed at 3901. you can see how it is. that's going to be before

that's the temperatures. >> yeah, we have before talking about this on friday. the high fire danger and we were hoping that nothing was could out of it. then cans are way too dry, and then just this small spark can spread and get out of control fairly quickly. we have a flag warning as the winds increase. let me show you why. you have to have a real tav humidity numbers at a certain percentage in the teens or beloaf. we're seeing moderate humidity for the afternoon. look at fairfield. it drops down to the single digit. that air is so dry. anything could spread very quickly with the light breeze. we're looking at the winds in those areas about 15 to 20 miles per hour. make it up to 30 in the upper elevations. with a dry and very low humidity and gusty winds, we have to be careful once again or it may make the fire that's

already going in a different direction or continue to go. as we look at what is happening elsewhere across the bay area, still an on shore wind flow. that keeps the coastle areas cooler and the wind is going to still be breezy at times. the temperatures there in the 60s. we have 70s for hayward, and then upper 80s through livermore as well as the south county. look how hot it's going to be and high in the 90s for morgan hill and 967 7 for concord. on wednesday it's still pretty hot in the valleys as we start out with the ex team heat for the week. we see the temperatures peeking on tuesday and wednesday along with the increased fair danger. behind that we will see the storm systems coming in, and then a chance of rain close to the bay area from sunday in to memorial day. plan on it being much keeler this weekend as you make that local get away. we're talking about that. mike, you have been watching the morning

nbc bay area responds to a woman that had a problem with a contractor. >> more than 500 reasons to drop the hammer. >> good morning. linda lambert had the company bath fitter visit her house to install a new bath tub liner. she signed a contract and paid $570 and a deposit sit. that was in july. by march, eight months late early, still no liner. linda expected her money back because she said her contract said if bath fitter is unable to

right now at 5:30. another fire danger for salano county as well as parts of the sacramento valley as high windy conditions return to the bay area once again. i am timing out the red flag warning set to take affect in a matter of hours. make sure that the kids pack the mask and backpack. what school is reinstating the masking rules inside of the classroom. why some parents are surprised that it came like this. formula. finally a new overseas shipment touching down as parents struggle to find enough supply for the baby. when the much needed product is going hit the store shelves. this is today in the bay streaming live on roku, amazon fire and apple tv. here we are and getting started with the day. i am marcus washington.

i am laura garcia. let's get a look going across the area. things looking to be dry and hot. yes, a 11:00 it starts for salano county. this is the only area in the high fire danger as we see the high winds picking up and over the weekend we saw what that could mean for some of those areas around fairfield with the fires that are ongoing right now. we do have a light wind to start out with. kind of an ocean breeze that keeps the coastal areas and parts of the bay cool. for our inland areas, once that wind shifts and comes in from the north, we will have extremely low humidity and some of those wind gusts could dry out the vegetation even more. we're really concerned with the high fire danger for today along with the gusty winds, and temperatures are going up for the inland valleys while the coastal areas are comfortable. we will talk about the temperatures and what is ahead in the forecast coming up in a few minutes.

>> thanks so much, kari. now, the free bay area app is a great way to keep keep track. you can download it right now. it's free. it's 5:31, breaking this morning on the covid front. pfizer is saying the covid vaccine is safe and affective for the younger of the children. the drug maker says that three doses for children ages six months to five years old gave children a strong immune response with more than 80% ethicacy. pfizer plans to give the data to the u.s. regulators later this week for emergency use authorization. in the meantime a thousand of students for the last two weeks of the school year will be a throw back of sorts. they're required to wear a mask indoors. >> we're live in berkley this morning to breakdown the data leading to that change. >> reporter: good morning. the parents had all weekend to gear up with this with the kids.

the announcement came last friday that the kids will have to start to wear the masks again starting this morning. this affects 10,000 students in 16 schools with the berkley unified cool district. the superintendent says that they're following the recommendations from the public health officer. parents were shocked to hear the latest covid numbers on friday with the 40 daily cases when there were only eight in march. that prompted parents to comply. >> i don't know why it's coming back. maybe this is something in the air. it's super crazy. i don't want to wear this anymore, but you never know. i think that it's wise. i think that we have been very cautious during the pandemic, and we support, you know reinstatement of the masking. long term, you know, we will just see how it pans out. >> in california we are seeing

that's when a gunman opened fire in san jose killing nine people. one of the victims was -- his family says when a coworker started to shoot, spring call in to action and calling employees and warning them to hide and avoid the building before he was shot and killed. >> it shows the world what kind of a person he was because he like always told us that he would lie down for anybody. he would help whoever he could. then the rest was that and a hero. >> he truly did. on thursday the employees and victims relatives including sing's family will gather in the yard at the private ceremony to pay tribute to all of st. the workers killed. we have complete coverage here on today in the bay including the one on one interview with the mayor sam lacardo. the man in the resent attack

says that he did it because he was offended by his jokes. now, this is a new jailhouse interview with the new york post. the suspect isaiah lee says that he identifies as by sexual. he says that he was offended by the jokes about transgender and homeless people. lee faces misdemeanor charges and attempt to assault. that's in connection with the attack that happened at the hollywood bowl. lee is currently awaiting pre trial hearing on june 2nd. much needed help is on the way for parents across the country. the first shipment of baby formula from europe is now in the u.s. today show has more on the overnight development. >> reporter: hi, good morning. here in indianapolis seeing the plane land at the airport was a welcomed site for millions of americans. the ferment la is

that's for salano county and parts of the hills and inland areas. the valley temperatures are hiding for the 90s most likely by tomorrow in to the wednesday. bay in the 70s and 80s. not much of a concern there. clear start to the day. maybe a little bit hazy because of the fires that we have had over the weekend. temperature in the lower 50s to start. we will see the temperatures heating up. by lunchtime you want to grab the sandwich and head back inside. we're looking at hotter weather for fairfield. one of the areas that we're watching. we will talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. mike, any issues for the morning commute? >> just a few issues. the crash and fire looks like that's clear and both of those from 101 in the san francisco area. we're going over to the east bay and looking at north and south 680th and coming in just to the south there where we're looking at an issue on either side of the freeway. no major slowing. you can see that and

at a pretty smooth drive. good volume and traffic, and no major problems coming out all the way to the dublin interchange. looking at 680 in danville with a couple of crashes. we will track those, and what to expect coming up today. developing rite now in ukraine, russian forces are showing new signs of process after months of set backs. the military taking some new strides in the eastern ukraine. now, in one city ukraine says that weekend shelling killed at least 12 civilians. this as the evacuations continue in the devastated city of mariupol. now, over the weekend they sat down for a rare joint interview. volodymyr zelenskyy and his wife talked about the family and how the war could see. zelenskyy says that the negotiations will end the war. they're hoping that the weapons from the west could break the impasse. bid president biden approved a new

$40 billion aid package for ukraine during the south korean visit. the white house's blocking back a statement president biden made about taiwan. >> it sounds like the president mobbed it and knew what he was saying. yeah, he did and he did. the is very complex. the united states officially recognizes a one china policy that taiwan is a -- not a separate country from china. it's clearly a separate country. it's democracy. this is not a de democracy. this is an allie and not. taiwan is a separate country . at the same time, the u.s. has promised to defend taiwan. that means that we're saying two different things. those things are the same, but we will defend this. for washington the best policy when it comes to this whole thing is don't talk about it. a reporter asked the president

to be president trump's arch enemy is running for re-election in georgia. the primaries are tomorrow. trump is angry at brian kemp. a money for not taking action to prevent georgia's electors for voting for biden that they were supposed to. biden won the state. today former president mike pence will campaign with kemp. kemp looks as if he will easily win tomorrow's primary. arizona's primary was last tuesday, and we don't have a result in that state's republican primary race for senate. dr. oz and his competitor day mccormick still neck and neck. we're watching that, but not a lot o is happening. this may go down to a recount. we will talk about it on social immediate cray and answer the questions. questions are so good.

73 degrees and upper 60s in san francisco. you can see the spread in temperatures across the bay area. not all of us will have bad weather today. the intense heat gets stronger tomorrow as well as wednesday as we could see triple digit in fairfield. upper 90s in livermore and concord as well as santa rosa. the winds continue while san francisco will see high in the mid-70s. also, mid-70s on wednesday while it's still really hot in the valleys. starting out with the heat. the increased fire danger will continue, but then look at what happens going in to the weekend. the storm systems get closer and may even bring in a chance of showers on sunday. as we make the plans, it's much cooler and maybe even snow in the upper elevations. that's also going to bring down the temperatures significantly for the bay area. we do have to make it through the fire danger and the heat for
