thank you so much for starting your weekend with us. we have a look at your microclimate forecast on memorial day weekend. >> yes, and the weather will be interesting because it is a lot cooler this week compared to the 80s and 90s earlier in the week. here is another view of san francisco. it might not look like it, but that is supposed to be alive camera you cannot see anything because of the clouds and fog. if you look closely on the lens, you can actually see some light drizzle on their go, we have good cloud cover even through parts of the d int even parts of san jose also waking up to cloud cover. current temperatures right now in the 50s and we are going to be a lot cooler today, and we will talk about the daytime highs later. >> okay, see you in about 15

minutes. we begin with this, a growing memorial filled with candles and flowers for the 21 victims killed in trenton, texas. we are getting a look at the timeline of what happened inside of rob elementary school on tuesday as families who lost loved ones want to know exactly what happened in the 47 minutes before the first 911 call and when the gunman was killed. families are outraged by what they have heard so far. >> reporter: texas authorities are addressing questions about the response to tuesday's mass shooting, revealing a detailed timeline. investigators say that the suspect crashed a truck and shot in a nearby funeral one and the first 911 call was made at 11:30. he then entered the school through an unlocked door, entered a classroom and started shooting. >> he shot more than 100 rounds based on the audio evidence.

>> reporter: at 11:35, officers entered the same door. >> another 16 rounds were fired. >> reporter: by 12:03, 19 officers were in the school and hallway but did not enter the classroom for 47 minutes despite at least 8911 calls from young students begging police to come in now. >> the on scene commander believed that it had transitioned into an active shooter to a barricaded subject. in hindsight, the force did not make the right decision but the wrong decision. >> reporter: the governor of texas expressed outrage. >> the information that i was given was turning out to be in part inaccurate and i am absolutely livid about that. >> it comes down to two things. confidence and cowardice. >> reporter: security consultants michael ettinger says that it is standard active shooting trainer that if an officer is available, they need

to go in. >> i can't understand how 19 officers did not have the courage to do the right thing. i really have a lack of words to explain the lack of an action and explain how these kids suffered immeasurably. >> reporter: one of dozens of parents rushed to the school and pleaded with police officers to go inside and she was handcuffed. when they took the handcuffs off, she ran in herself. >> i wish that uvalde would have done more, gone in there and put more pressure. that is why we are in what happened today, and if i hadn't jumped that fence and got my own children, they would've been in that predicament. >> reporter: the grief turns to anger as the tone looks for answers. ian cull, today in the bay. >> less than 300 miles from uvalde, the nra convention

went on. former president trump called on democrats and republicans tonight to harden schools to prevent school shootings. he said that a top to bottom security overhaul was needed in schools and potentially arming of teachers. he also dismissed calls for new gun control laws and accused democrats of exploiting the tragedy. >> it is the time to find common ground, sadly, before the sun had even sat on the horrible day of tragedy. we witnessed a parade of cynical politicians seeking to exploit the tears of sobbing families, to increase their power and take away our constitutional rights. >> trump went on to say that the only way to stop a good guy with a gun is a bad guy with a gun. in the wake of the massacre, salesforce employees are saying that marc benioff should cut ties with the nra and thousands of workers demanded that salesforce stop selling

marketing products to the national rifle association. in the letter, employees say that it is unconscionable to continue using their software to capitalize on mass shooting. we spoke to employees who said that they feel optimistic changes will be made. the grief and exasperation about another mass shooting in our country is carrying into the sports world. giants manager gabe kapler says that he will not participate in the national anthem anymore until he feels better about the direction of our country. gabe kapler, much like warriors head coach and colin kaepernick before them, using his platform to push change. >> reporter: the manager for the giants is taking a stand in the wake of the mass shooting in texas. >> i feel he is like, i'm doing me, and i have mad respect for that. i am 100% supportive. >> reporter: reactions of people watching the giants game

at the cantina located across from the park. >> it is courageous of him to make that statement. >> reporter: gabe kapler is making it known that he is not okay with the state of his country following the latest mass shooting in texas. before tonight's game in cincinnati, he told reporters how he plans to express his frustration. >> i do not plan on going out for the anthem going forward until i feel like there is -- until i feel better about the direction of our country. >> when are we going to do something? >> reporter: earlier this week, warriors head coach expressed similar feelings across the state of the country. -- at san jose state university. >> i am happy to see that he is leveraging his, dare i say, privilege, and speaking out on these issues. let's be honest with ourselves, historically in this country,

the only individuals allowed to criticize this nation and still be viewed as patriotic are white men. >> reporter: he points to former quarterback keeper nick got a lot of publicity and backlash with taking a knee for social change. dr. fleischer says that he would like to see gabe kapler be more specific. >> i want to hear him say specifically what he wants to see to feel better about it. i want to see him step out in front. if he is talking about gun control, say gun control. don't toe the line. turning now to a developing story, a car chase and crash. a stolen patrol car in the east bay. police say around 8:30 last night, someone that they had been investigating in connection with an assault stall this marked patrol car and took off. they chased that suspect into vallejo where he crashed the patrol car into a ball and that suspect was taken into custody. we have a follow-up note to

a story we brought you last weekend about an officer involved shooting in san francisco where officers shot and killed two people. the police department hosted a town ha the incident which happened near mariposa and owens street. spd says that officers responded to an assault in progress and they found two men fighting. we have edited video from the fpd that shows a man held a knife over rafael mendoza for 15 minutes and officers tried to get him to drop the night by firing the full projectiles multiple times. video shows them firing those nonlethal rounds. later, four officers open fired when mc finnigan made a stabbing motion toward mendoza's chest. both men died of gunshot wounds.

there is a change in policy at the san jose police department following several cases of alleged officer misconduct and the most significant, the city manager will now be notified when an employee is accused of a crime that has the potential to impact the safety or financial health of other city employees. employees are also immediately placed on administrative leave until an administrative discipline nation is happening. starting today, several new voting centers will open across the bay area for early voting and some of the centers opening today are on your screen which include burlingame city hall, daly city, saint pete parish in pacifica and more. it also includes the healdsburg felicity center, sonoma county registrar in santa rosa, sonoma veterans memorial building,

and zelenskyy said to keep spreading the truth on social media. meanwhile, hundreds of students at san jose willow glen high school walked out of class yesterday to protest and violence and demand more be done to make school safe. the group rallied on campus for about one hour before returning to class and the school district said that it supports the move and has no plans to discipline students who express their perspective through the peaceful walkouts. only on nbc, a brand-new action implemented in the san jose police department. they're adding specialized units called guardian cars to patrol near schools. we have learned exclusively from sj pd that there are a total of four cars with two officers inside each vehicle and they are assigned specifically to patrol san jose campuses. the goal is to offer peace of mind to worried parents and students and be ready to go at a moments notice if they

receive a threat to a school. a house of worship was significantly damaged by fire in the east bay one flames broke out out about 3:00 p.m. yesterday. the large building was seating up to 1200 people and you see the fire broke through most of the roof. firefighters said that this made it difficult to fight the fire and investigators are looking into the cause. so far, the fire has not been ruled suspicious or parsable arson. new data shows that the baby formula outage has gotten worse and at 70%, there is some hope that the government provokes a production act to ramp up the availability of ingredients needed to create formula. the fda says it will also bring in 1 1/4 million cans of formula from australia. in the meantime, the fda and formula maker habits are facing scrutiny from congress. a whistleblower warned the fda about the abbott plant in

michigan last year and it took months to inspect and find evidence of a bacteria that could be deadly to infants. it took another two weeks before abbott issued a recall. a second suspected monkeypox case has surfaced here in california and the case was also in sacramento county through contact tracing. health leaders say that this was considered a close contact of the first patient in the original infected person had recently traveled to europe. both patients are isolating in their homes. there at least now 10 cases in the u.s. health officials stress that the risk through the general public remains low. memorial day weekend is here and so too are new surges in covid cases. we have pulled data from each company's website and the states website and we found that few counties have a positive activity rate below

it is an interesting morning if you are in san jose, you are looking out of your window and thinking, are those rain clouds? it is looking a bit cloudy out there. we have a system making its approach to the north and that is bringing a lot of this cloud cover. if you are in the south bay, not a lot of rain yet but a chance of some shower activity into this evening. if you are in san francisco, we have the marine layer, bringing a lot of the high clouds. and we have a bit of that drizzle showing up on our cameras. definitely noticing some of that activity and i will take you through the timing of all of this and a little bit. so fog and low clouds, some fog foot pushing into santa rosa. pushing as well through the san jose area with some cloud cover and temperatures as you head out the door this morning, comfortable and not too cold in the upper 50s. san jose, 59. san francisco, 53.

i think that a three-step process of connect, care and challenges really helpful, so to connect is really understanding your children and making sure that your relationship is strong with them. care is helping them understand that they can work through anything they are working about. if they are anxious, it is okay and you can be anxious with them. the challenge is to help them develop skills around dealing with the anxiety or being afraid. it is okay to be nervous and we are going to talk to you about how safe our school is. if you don't want to go to school today, maybe that is okay, but your friends are going back. you want to build a community around having a plan, walking with your children. it is critical to your kids where they are as opposed to everyone else. >> yes, and like you have mentioned before, there are sponges and pick up on our emotions as well. active shooter drills are part of a lot of curriculums now and it is very important but i am wondering how this affects the

kids psyche? >> it is different for every child, so given the situation that we are in, everything in the world, there is high anxiety for children and parents and children are concerned and fatigued. it is so important for them to have outlet. but it does not have to have a huge impact on children for the long-term if in the short term you are having conversations and stockpiling positive experiences. if they know the door is already open for them to have a conversation with you. >> importance on all of those car rides home. thank you so much for joining us and giving us great advice. a stolen police car in the east bay leads to a chase and crash and oakland police say around 8:30 they were investigating a suspect in connection with assault. he stole a marked patrol car and took off. they chased him into the lay hole where they crashed into a

pole and he was taken into custody. and a follow-up of the story we brought you last week and with an officer involves tooting near chase center where they killed two people. the police department hosted a town called estimate to discuss the incident. the shooting happened near mariposa and owens street. spd said that they responded to an assault of progress near a homeless encampment and found two men fighting. in this edited video, a man leader identified as michael nick finnegan held a knife over rafael mendoza. for 15 minutes, officers tried to get him to drop the knife. body camera footage we are about to show you shows officers firing those nonlethal rounds. later, four officers opened fire when nick finnegan made a stabbing most in towards

minutes of the gunmen entering one of the classrooms, police officers were inside of the will. but the commander on scene made the decision to standby for an extended period of time as dozens of rounds of gunfire could be here from inside the classroom. he said that the decision was made by law enforcement at the scene because they thought it had turned from an active shooter situation into a barricade situation. that is even as 911 calls were being made by victims still trapped inside of the classroom. even the department had calls this a failure on the part of responding officers. speak in mind in the doctrine of active shooters, that you can transition from an active shooter situation to a barricaded subject but if shooting continues, then you have reason to believe that there are individuals alive in there and you have an obligation to move back to active shooter posturing and get everybody out the door. >> that was department of public safety colonel stephen

mcgraw and he also says there were other failures as well. one teacher who heard an initial car crash involving the gunmen mistakenly left a side door open, which allowed the gunmen to enter the school building. it is possible that police at the scene were not aware of the 911 calls being made by victims trapped inside. mcgraw says that there are still so many questions that need to be answered. giants manager gabe kapler is getting national attention because he says that he will not participate in the national anthem until he feels better about the direction of our country. kepler made this known in his blog after the massacre of the 19 children and two teachers. before last night's game in cincinnati, he told reporters how he plans to express his frustration. >> i don't plan on coming out for the anthem going forward until i feel like there is -- until i feel better about the
