that it was done to demonstrate the ability of combined forces to, quote, respond quickly to crisis events. but the pace of these launches, we're talking 16 missiles over a 24 hours is ramping up tension in the region. north korea fired eight missiles over the weekend from multiple locations. over 35 minutes towards the sea of japan, according to officials. what appears to be the largest single day ballistics launch yet. this is the 18th round of tests by north korea so far this year with the expectation that kim jong-un is preparing for another nuclear test philip >> another escalation, janis talking about the war in ukraine. fighting continues to ramp up in the east there what more can you tell us? >> well, ukrainian forces are said to be taking large parts of a key city in the eastern part of the country russian forces had been concentrating on severodonetsk

us off from beijing. thank you. here in the united states, yet another weekend of deadly gun violence video shows the moment shots rang out on a busy philadelphia street [ gunshots ] police say three people were killed and 12 others were injured. officials believe a street fight led to the gun violence. police recovered two guns at the scene, but they say they have evidence that five weapons were fired, not including the rounds fired by an officer the suspects were able to leave the scene without being identified in chattanooga, tennessee, another mass shooting took three lives outside of a nightclub two were killed by gunfire a third died while trying to run away when they were struck by a car. in total, 14 people were shot and two others were injured by cars in michigan, at least four people were killed in two shootings, one in saginaw and the other in downtown grand rapids >> police say a 14-year-old girl was killed early saturday

morning outside a strip mall in phoenix. eight others were injured including two women with life-threatening injuries. and in south carolina, police say a woman was killed and seven other people were hurt at a graduation party six of the victims were children the youngest is 12 years old according to the gun violence archive, which is a group that tracks mass shootings, there were 11 mass shootings that occurred this weekend across eight states. 15 lives were lost in those incidents. as gun violence continues to plague the nation, congress could finally take action this week a bipartisan group of senators began work on new legislation in the wake of the mass shootings in buffalo and uvalde. for the latest we get to brie jackson in d.c what can we expect this week >> good morning, frances lawmakers will hear the devastating personal toll of these mass shootings with family members of the victims in uvalde and buffalo testifying before a house committee. both the house and the senate are tackling gun control legislation this week. in the lower chamber, democrats are eyeing a vote on a package
