posted by cal fire . it started after 1:00 in the morning. cal fire tells us it happened near woodland hills park south of highway 4. burned a little more than five acres before that i put it out. we are going to turn to meteorologist . still very dry out there. it is dry and windy as we typically see. even this morning, we have a southwesterly wind at 24 miles an hour. we have to be careful even with just pulling the car off to the side of the road and throwing --. our temperatures this morning in the mid-60s. it will warm up to mid-70s. 80s at 1:00 and eventually reaching 86 degrees in that area. san jose reaching 80.

low 70s for san mateo and san francisco will be in the upper 60s. tomorrow, we start to heat up and i will show you those numbers coming up in a few minutes. breaking news coming into our newsroom from internet which is the newest version of its covid booster shot provides stronger protection against the most recent omicron variants. it's also meant to protect against the original covid strain and provides eight times the amount of antibodies. the so-called vaccine is in the second phase of a three-phase trial period. it is considered moderna best booster kenny pickett approved it may be available this fall. in the primary election coverage, we begin with a local recall measure that is getting a lot of national attention. the effort to unseat san francisco district attorney chesa boudin. >> this is proposition h. yes means -- he is out. today in the bay is live in the city with more reaction. >> reporter: people were out

here celebrating the recalls and the relentless results came in and showed 61% of the voters supported the recall of chesa boudin. take a look at the front page of today's chronicle. this election is making national headlines and the results led to cheers from supporters and the leader last night who had criticized putin for election justice system and going easy on violent criminals. >> san francisco can now move forward with new leadership that will chart a better and safer path. >> people are angry. they are frustrated. and i want to be very clear about what happened tonight. the right-wing billionaires outspent us three to one. they exploited an environment in which people are appropriately upset.

and they created electrodynamic we were literally shadowboxing. >> reporter: so here is what comes next. boudin will be removed 10 days after the board of supervisors formally accept the election results. mayor london breed will choose an immediate replacement and voters will elect a new district attorney in november. still no word whether he will be running for that position again. and this is a national attention because of its focus on crime and police reform. in the meantime, in the race for governor, gavin newsom faces a large field of opponents but he quickly took the lead. the other candidates included brian dahle. it is now looking like it is set up between newsom and dahle. for california

today, lawmakers will hear from victims of mass shootings including that fourth-grader who describes covering herself with blood and pretending to be dead during the uvalde shooting. >> every time we hear that story it just pulled that your heart. certainly, a lot of testimony that will be affecting people today. thank you. let switch gears and take a lead look aside. the sun is coming up over the bay area. a nice start to our wednesday morning. but i know what's coming. but he. i'm not ready just yet. as we start out with a clear view looking at the golden gate bridge, we will see a clear day in san francisco, but we are getting for warmer temperatures. have some milder temperatures.

upper 60s at 7:00 in low to mid- 70s through late morning. we will start to turn on the air conditioning as we head towards 1:00 making it into the upper 80s but compare that to the upper 60s we see in san francisco in the 80s for santa rosa. san jose keepsake comfortably warm 80 degrees. tomorrow is when the temperatures ramp up. we will take a look at those numbers and when we may see some rain in the forecast. that's coming up in a few minutes. mike, have you been tracking him traffic alerts still going on? we are looking for some relief but no word on when that will happen. north 101, just about ellis, we had a big crash. that in some debris blocking lane. 30 to 40,000 pound rig now backing up westbound 237 in north 101 mountain view, coming into san jose, another slowdown. a number of vehicles still on

the time is 6:13. welcome back. starting out with upper 50s in oakland as you had to work. warming up into the low to mid 70s going into the afternoon. overall, a nice day ahead here as well as much of the bay area. tomorrow, the heat start to crank up. we will have it in our forecast coming up. we have been looking at this pick this back up in santa clara. we have this crash and debris still blocking the right lane. north 101 slowing in san jose. we will hopefully have an

update coming up. happy wednesday to you. one of the world's most knowledgeable economist janet yellen will testify today before the house about inflation. yesterday she answered questions in the senate. yellen is not just the secretary of the treasury, she is the former fed chair. even she admitted a few days ago she was wrong about inflation. the fed and the white house called it transitory as it will go away. it did not. >> we indicated both of us probably could have used a better term than transitory. there is no question that we have huge inflation pressures that inflation is really our top economic problem at this point. >> it was a reasonable guess at the time but clogged up supply chains and family, by all measures are doing quite well, would drive up prices but the

of positive economic news. jobless rates are near historical lows, wages are up, americans have money to spend, and they are spending it. our biggest problem, other than inflation, is finding workers with all the money to spend. >> finding workers is a problem. and we are seeing that in so many industries including the flight industry. were going to take a live look at sfo. summer travel is taking up at the shortage of pilots is a problem. for the second straight year airlines are struggling. regional jet routes are taking the biggest hit but the major airlines are also feeling the pinch. a retired pilot believes he has the answer. he argues that the faa should lift its mandatory role requiring pilots to retire at the age of 65. >> we are trained. we are evaluated constantly. we should be able to come back in and do the job until physically or mentally can't do

she didn't graduate on friday. it's going to be hot. we are still enjoying the milder weather today. it will be a repeat of yesterday. if you enjoyed yesterday you will love today as well. we start out with a look at walnut creek. temperatures in the mid-60s at 8:00. at 10:00, 71 degrees. lunch time, 77. we will reach the high 80s and as we reach into the upper 80s in fairfield today. 69 in san francisco and 86 in santa rosa. san jose attic comfortably warm 80 degrees. tomorrow is when it starts to crank up for some spots like livermore reaching 91 and 98 degrees in fairfield. napa reaching 90 degrees tomorrow. it gets hotter on friday as we reached the peak of the heat. santa rosa reaching 99 degrees, concord 100, and 105 in

fairfield and we will also see triple digits and parts of the south county. san francisco will be pretty warm, reaching the upper 70s and low 80s. half moon bay will stay in the mid-70s. where we compare where we are headed versus the record high, it looks like we will not see a lot of widespread records set but we may tie the record in santa rosa as we reached 100 degrees there. we have some big relief coming on sunday. it is like a repeat of last weekend when we wrapped up their weekend with spotty showers. we could see that again but it doesn't look like it will be as heavy. it will quickly pass by and bring relief from the hi. we are taking a look at our seven-day forecast. met eddie today, mid-90s tomorrow and 100 degrees for a lot of spots on friday. it is still pretty hot on saturday but sunday, we will see more clouds moving in. showers to the north and highs reaching in the low 80s. san francisco is also going to see a spike in temperatures,

just not as hot as the inland areas. we go back to a nice breeze on saturday. by sunday, only seeing highs in the upper 60s. we are watching all of that for you. mike, you have been keeping an eye on what's happening in mountain view. dealer continues for north 101. listen up. look at the map. still block with two lanes because of a big rig crash that happened a while ago. update about the tow truck. were looking at west 237 in north 101, both jamming up. watch this. we, of course, slowing. look at the sensors that just change. an earlier crash looks like it's clear but if you're south about portion, you can take 85 and jump on 101 north.

john muir's billing office and jimmy went to an urgent care to see a doctor and now he was unexpectedly on the hook for 50 bucks. jimmy said he tried to correct this obvious error himself but he wasn't getting anywhere so he asked us to jump in. we did and contacted john muir health , explain that there were some miscommunications between john muir health and united healthcare which is his insurance provider. john muir fix the paperwork problem, told us it was clean the fifty-dollar bill pick the rep said they apologized to mr. cooper with the delay in getting this corrected and for the stress that it has caused him. speaking of covid-19 test, did you know at home tests have an expiration date? they do but is not necessarily the date stamped on the box. you have to look it up. we recently made a video showing you how. you can watch that clip and all of our other how-to videos on our website, our streaming channel, and our youtube page.

morning. i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we have full election coverage but we have breaking news. authorities in berlin are trying to determine if someone intentionally plowed their car into a crowd in a busy plaza. one person was killed. sky news is telling us up to 30 additional people are injured. berlin police have detained one man believed to be the driver. this is actually the same area where you may recall 13 people died six years ago when a man drove a truck into a crowded holiday market. turning now to decision 22 and our primary election coverage. some clarity for some of the biggest races in the south bay. today in the bay's kris sanchez is live this morning telling us who will be on the ballot in november. >> reporter: so, it's no surprise that santa clara county is getting in his share of. lori smith is retiring and now

we know that the two people who could replace her are both lawmen themselves. take a look. kevin jensen made the top two spots and is a retired sheriff deputy who actually ran against lori smith before. he did not win. robert jonsen will also appear on the ballot pick he is the head of the palo alto police department and also headed up the menlo park police. to the san jose mayor's race, the two topsy candidates are poised for a runoff in our a veteran of politics and the other a relative newcomer. santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez was the top vote getter last night and is well known having also served on the san jose city council. her likely opponent will be matt mahan, a first term councilman.

>> i think the most important thing i offer is a track record of accomplishment and experience in the public sector. the city of san jose is a big ship and it needs to return in a new direction and that will take experience and that is what i am running and that is why i decided to run in the first place. >> i think voters want to see accountability for results. i think we are doing a lot of the same things and expecting a different outcome. it's time to take a different direction. voters want a choice and they will have one in november. >> reporter: you heard it there. the run-up is coming up in november in the two races won't be decided in the south bay until then. >> a lot of people have time to decide. thank you. to the other big race making headlines, really, across the nation. san francisco district attorney john muir has

>> it may really represent a tipping point in our attitude in the nation's attitude towards law enforcement crime management. here you have a case where this person was elected about two years ago, boudin, flat out lost by a pretty sizable margin. this is something to watch, not only for last night but in the weeks and months to come. let's talk about the race for governor. governor newsom leading right now winning a ring car race of his own. where do we go from here? >> well, we go on to the general election but i want to point out one thing. he has 57% but he beat the recall just a year ago by 63%. he was elected the first time by a similar margin.

you wonder, if that roses wilting a little bit on the newsom side, enough right now to go to a second election but he wants to have a powerful outcome in november. shaping his future down the road. >> everybody waiting for november. do you think that is the reason? voter turnout was pretty low yesterday. >> it was. it's always a disappointment for those of us who want to see democracy in action. i think a lot of things. voter fatigue. we had election in 2020, a recall last year, and redistricting left it confused in many cases. where do i go, who are my candidates, why is my district number different? and finally, this wasn't a presidential election. newsom and padilla, the two

stars, so to speak, had comfortable marches going in and people were wondering, why am i bothering? you put all of that together and you get low turnout. >> and it could be a little bit of the pandemic as well. some of the older voters who typically go out to vote are still concerned for their own health. we will see how it turns out in november. >> it could be, although, we make it so easy to vote here. we send the pallets to everybody and give them much opportunity ahead of time. easy places to drop off and you can mail it back, no charge. >> and you can register the date of and vote. it's pretty amazing. our civic responsibility. thank you so much. good to see you. well, the ballot is a bit confusing when it comes to california's senate race. alex padilla's name appear twice because governor newsom appointed him to kamala harris a seat when she won vice presidency. padilla is the winner this morning and will serve the rest

shows we will be in the upper 70s at lunchtime 81 at 1:00 as we head for 86 degrees today. we are looking at some 70s for oakland this afternoon. 77 in fremont. 80 in san jose and 86 in concord. tomorrow, the heat up and look at how much hotter it will be. some mid-90s and we will reach the peak of the heat on friday we will take a look at those temperatures and how it compares to the record, and so we can relieve in the forecast in a few minutes. some folks should be happy. a look at the map, a quick recovery. a thumbs up, that is how optimistic i am. pretty quick recovery. north 101, as you drive through sunnyvale, santa clara, the earlier crash around tully, that has been cleared really quickly.

we are looking at later traffic around many parts of the day. in the city this evening, we have oracle park with the giants playing at 6:45 and at the chase center, inside and outside, parties there for the nba finals. that start that 5:00. crowds will probably start there around 4:30. meanwhile, smooth traffic around the rest of the day. look at the toll plaza. half empty or half full, that is the optimistic or pessimistic view. coming up, in washington, families and some of the survivors of those horrible mass shootings will be testifying.

uvalde and buffalo will testify before congress later this morning. >> the attorney general will announce the names of people who will investigate the delay of saving the children at uvalde. merrick garland oppressing the -- we knew the department of justice would investigate what happened at the school because it was the city of uvalde that requested the federal investigation. the doj calls this a critical incident review and will not necessarily lead to criminal charges but help us better understand why everything went so badly wrong. at the capital this morning, one of the witnesses scheduled to testify is the 11-year-old girl who smeared herself with her classmates blood to convince the gunmen she was dead. this starts at 7:00 this morning. in uvalde, the city council held an emergency meeting. the mayor echoing other leaders in their anger. >> we were told one thing

monday and the next day the story change. we were told for a week that a teacher prop the door open with the rock and at the end of the week the story was gone, too. >> notably missing from this meeting is the newly elected city councilman who was also the commander at the scene. ultimately, it was not the police at all but federal agents who went in. uvalde native matthew mcconaughey was at the white house on tuesday appealing to what he called the moderate majority in america to appeal a reasonable reform pick he is a supporter of the second amendment that said reasonable gun laws would protect gun rights while protecting american children. stick around for the today show this morning. they will have a lot more on the speech and the latest from washington. that starts after today in the bay at 7:00. public hearing on the january 6th attack begins tomorrow in washington. and b.c. will cover the live starting at 4:00 p.m. all networks will do the same.

fox will not. as you watch these bipartisan hearings, remember, the original idea was this whole thing was supposed to be nonpartisan. the original idea was to form a committee of experts, no sitting politicians allow, and investigate but republican leader mcconnell instructed his party to vote that idea down. the white house announced president biden will travel to the g-7 conference in germany, the nato conference in spain, as we expected he would. those meetings will come at the end of the month. another big night on tap for donation. the celtics on the warrior face- off in game three of the nba finals. the theory is now tied 1-1 >> anthony flores is live this morning in boston and this is really the hottest ticket in town.

we have to get rid of that sea of green. >> reporter: i don't think there's anything i can do about that. good morning from boston. the city is buzzing with anticipation and excitement. the hottest ticket in town. game three of the nba finals but it will cost you if you want to be inside the arena. the first thing you notice when you walk in is it is hard to miss all the banners. they have won 17 nba championships but has been a dozen years since the city hosted the nba finals. there is a huge demand for tickets for according to stub hub, there are about 2000 tickets available for the game tonight. they start around $800 a ticket. there are nearly twice as many fans from california traveling to game three and four in boston compared to new england fans to travel to games in san francisco. there is no doubt about it, there is a mistake about it nba finals game in the garden.

we are getting started with a mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 50s. it will stay very nice as we go into late morning into the afternoon. as we take a look at our high temperatures around the bay area, we are arranging upper 60s in half moon bay to 70 in oakland and upper 80s in fairfield. reaching 85 in morgan hill today with north bay reaching up to 86 in santa rosa. notice how much hotter it is going to be tomorrow for a lot of our inland valley. 90 in napa and 91 in livermore. morgan hill reaching 91 degrees , but, unforeseen, it doesn't stop there. it will reach 101 on friday and 100 in concord. 105 in fairfield and nevada reaching 95 pick even warming up in san francisco to the upper 70s and low 80s, but there is some relief coming our way as rain lives close to the bay area.

we could see some spotty showers in the north bay and along the coast and this is basically a repeat of last week in. i don't think we will see as much rain as we did in the north bay. next week, drying out once again and the temperatures heading my backup. take a look at our seven-day forecast. mid 80s today, mid-90s tomorrow and up to 100 degrees on friday. it is still pretty hot on saturday and i think it will be more comfortable on sunday. breezy winds and we are watching for a few spotty showers as highs reach into the low 80s. for san francisco, upper 60s today, 73 tomorrow, and it will be uncomfortable on friday without air conditioning reaching 80 degrees. upper 60s by sunday. what is the update on the morning commute? thumbs up. over in mountain view in the south bay recovery overall. there is a slower drive in we had 87 in north 101, the usual spots. the biggest splayed out is here

on friday, mid-70s on saturday and back to upper 60s on sunday as the fog returns and cools us off. mike, you have been tracking some issues on the road. what is the update? an injury class has been reported in unfortunate, that means a slower drive here. heading to the peninsula, as we look at our travel time, calculating out about a 10 minute delight but it continues to grow. consider the dumbarton bridge and even the bay bridge is not quite so bad as we often see. that may be an option if you are north of the san mateo bridge. we have a slightly lighter volume of traffic there. not all lanes are backed up and with those hov lanes clear, we know it is only the backup focus at the merge after the meeting lights. getting onto the bridge is the biggest backup in the toughest one coming off the over crossing. >> i like how you see the gaps
