january 6. our investigative unit has one that a man died in police custody after firefighters helped restrain the man during an arrest on treasure island. those that have seen the body can video say that the man said twice he could not breathe. we have that story that you will only see on nbc bay area. i cannot let go because i do not know what happened. >> mariola and had again talked with her son on march 16, just before he died. a san francisco judge called to say that her son was near death. two months later, she waits for answers. all she knows is that san francisco police and firefighters had some involvement. >> whatever happened over there, that is what we need to

know. >> reporter: it happened on a wednesday in the middle of march. michelle called 911 when she heard an alarm go off. -- . >> reporter: she says she saw a man run out of the apartment across the street. >> he was not in the right state. whether he was high or not is not for me to say. he talked in a youtube video about his public drinking that he says began after he started jump school in the military. >> we were just out there getting wasted. >> reporter: we do not know if he was intoxicated that day when he pulled the alarm at the apartment building where he was staying. fire crews arrived but found there was no fire. >> be advised, pd response to this location for a domestic

dispute. >> reporter: a security camera shows him just after he got there. she wants the officers tried to calm him down as he approached. they were not confrontational. then she heard crashing but could not see what happened next. police did not release the body camera video from the responding officers. the police department declined comment for this story citing an ongoing investigation. sources that have seen the video tell our unit that it shows him trying to get into the apartment through the broken window. one of the officers handcuffed him and placed him face down. police and firefighters attempting to get him onto a gurney but sources say one firefighter put his knee against his back. throughout the struggle, no one checked his vital signs. even after baron said, "i can't breathe.

" >> about five minutes after being handcuffed, he was unresponsive. >> reporter: a woman watched as medics tried to revive him. maryellen hannigan says when she got the call from the hospital that night, her son was unconscious and near death so they put her on speaker phone. >> i spoke with my son and i do not know if he was able to hear me. i was able to say my goodbyes to him. i was not ready to say my goodbyes to him. and, when they called me and they told me that he had passed away, i fell on the floor screaming. i was absolutely shocked. >> the medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death. the fire department says that while the investigation continues, they summoned police because a man was displaying violent and erratic behavior

for the victims but members of the deceased had to consent to letting doctors complete autopsies. today they have apologized to the victims of the study and they have donated to a descendent group. first baby formula and now tampons. the makers of feminine hygiene products are reporting a shortage in some tampons and pads. the company is calling the shortage temporary and said it is wrapping up production to meet demand. the rising places of prices of raw material like cotton are causing the spike. people love to lay out in son but doctors are warning that could be dangerous. skin cancer and detecting it really is key. that is where new 3-d technology comes in.

>> he came to me to monitor moles and we noticed this one was new and that it had changed. >> reporter: the body photographer identified the mole on his thigh and it was in stage 0 but he needed surgery to remove it. the american cancer society says that melanoma accounts for 1% of cancer that it causes a large number of cancer deaths. they see u.s. physicians will likely diagnose at least 100,000 new melanoma cases. more men will die than women. that is why this cancer center is offering this scanning technology. doctor rossi says it can reduce the need for biopsy. >> by having photos of your body and your mole we can say, at this point in time it look like this but now it has changed or gotten larger or become darker or it has added

could see half an inch up to one inch of rain across northeastern california. so, here is a closer look. the best chance of showers right around the morning. you can see it right there across sonoma county. 10:00 until about 2:00 is when the system breaks apart. everybody come by 7:00, will see clearing skies. as the system moves out we will see a 2-3 date period of that moving out but, we are watching the wind direction. tuesday, we will have to watch these inland areas. you could get a north wind or an offshore breeze and things will dry out so, we might see some of fire danger but certainly a lot less humidity.

then skies clear and temperatures back into the mid- 90s. windy and cooler as they head towards friday and saturday so, june, usually we are talking about low clouds and fog but still, pretty active going into next week. >> you talk about rain and it is great to hear and see but, even less we can, we had an inch of rain in marin county. i was covering a fire up there in a eucalyptus grove. >> and because of the ongoing drought conditions, january through march, there were little bits of rain that we might see for a few hours but within 24 hours, the sun comes back out in the fire danger resets. we will be right back.
