and then we have a lot of sunshine. first, let's get a check in with mike with breaking news. >> we have the opposite of a cooldown. we have a trailer on fire. this is southbound 101 right around lawrence expressway. we are now back to one lane open, only one lane. you will start slowing past 237 just below where i have that sign is the central expressway. that is an option for you. allow yourself a few extra minutes. do that and you should be fine getting out of mountain view. a couple of incidents but the big one is sunnydale. now to the store you will only see on the nbc bay area. a 15-year-old girl is in the intensive care unit after a pellet gun attack. this happened as she was walking near valley fair mall.

we have learned there could be more victims. >> reporter: gianna vitarelli is in the pediatric intensive care unit here . she has a collapsed lung. she tells me she is disbelieved and disheartened that someone would shoot her with a pellet gun. >> he shoots me in the back and drives away. >> reporter: the 15-year-old described the pellet gun attack that happened friday afternoon in san jose as she was walking with a friend from valleyfair toward her home. she suffered a collapsed lung and a fractured rib. you can see the pellet is still lodged in her body because the doctor said it was too dangerous to remove. >> it collapsed my lung, it almost hit my heart, it broke my ribs and it caused internal bleeding. also, because i was shot, it may have been a funny prank, my

summer trip was canceled because of this. it is very hard. it is not a joke. >> reporter: she had to have a tube inserted into her lungs to help her breathe. her and her family believe that attack may have been a prank, perhaps one encouraged on tik tok as a challenge. >> i am very confused. i do not know why anyone would shoot me. >> reporter: her father said what is important now is making sure people understand pellet gun injuries can be life- threatening. >> i want people to know that there is real physical damage that can happen. it is not just a simple poke on the skin. it really does cause great bodily harm. >> reporter: her father says police and hospital staff told them there were at least three other pellet gun attacks with injuries reported the same day. san jose police have not confirmed that. she still has to undergo more

tests and is not certain when she will be able to leave the hospital. a hate investigation is underway. this after deputies say a group of men of members of the proud boys organization strode into drag queens storytime sounding homophobic slurs. >> reporter: what was supposed to be a quiet reading time ended like this. >> it was stormed by eight proud boys who disrupted the event. >> reporter: the incident occurred saturday and witnesses who wanted to stay anonymous said the group who disrupted the event was acting aggressively and yelling slurs against the lgbt plus community. >> they were coming in and saying we have to save the children. it was terrifying.

>> reporter: the performers did not feel comfortable going on camera either. in a statement she said she immediately froze. the first thought that came across her mind, is it an ambush? are they armed? she said she realized they were defenseless. library staff said that the men would not leave and the rhetoric was escalated so they called the sheriff's department immediately. >> we invited the parents and children to leave the room as well. >> reporter: even after going through that they felt very strong about continuing with the reading event so they ended up opening up the windows just to help the families feel more comfortable. the sheriff's office as a hate crime investigation is underway as well is an investigation into annoying and harassing children. deputies want to make sure that as community celebrate pride month that deputies will be swift in response.

and tech heavy nasdaq down over five and half percent. most losses came on friday following a report showing consumer prices rising at the fastest annual pace since 1981. inflation data coming ahead of the big federal reserve meeting. the fed is expected to increase interest rates by half a percentage point on wednesday. also reports on producer prices, retail sales, housing and jobless claims. gasoline prices continue to climb. the average price of regular unleaded spiking $.39 over the past three weeks to $5.10 a gallon. that is according to the latest survey. that is two dollars more than it was the same time a year ago. this jump comes in at higher cost of crude oil and higher gasoline supplies. aaa says the national averages $5.01 a gallon. in the bay area gasoline as well above six dollars,

good monday morning. after a very muggy weekend, humidity was through the roof and it was hot outside. a couple of changes that are going to help cool us off. a little more dry and more wind. at san francisco a live look right now, not a lot of clouds in sight. for the most part a clear start to our monday. temperatures are ranging in the low and mid 50s.

san francisco 54, san jose 57 and our temperatures will be cooling off in the afternoon. already looking at san jose 10 degrees cooler. let's take a look at the temperature trend for the afternoon. even though the winds are light at 14 miles per hour, we are expecting it to increase for the week ahead. san jose is about 57 and by 11:00 a.m. it will be in the upper 50s. we will not get as hot as we got this weekend. 55 degrees in palo alto. notice the icon, it will be a i want to guide you through the next couple of days, we are heading towards a warm up. even though we are cooling off today as the wind increases we will see dry air and temperatures in the 80s and 90s with the wind from the west, northwest. tomorrow 10-20 miles per hour. the hottest day of the week

could be wednesday. we are also monitoring elevated fire danger especially for the hills as we see temperatures increase. with the wind increase it also dries out all of our hills. thursday we get a little bit of cooling. it will still be pretty windy. it is a long ways out right now. warmer days heading into tuesday. wednesday and thursday and by friday we get a little bit of cooling into the later portion of the week and a little bit of a warm up for father's day. we are kind of doing a little bit of this into monday, tuesday and wednesday. let's look at the seven-day forecast to give you a better idea of that roller coaster. 70s today, by tuesday and wednesday mid-70s. we cool off thursday and friday with breezy winds. into saturday and sunday , even though we cool off in the 90s and 70s by father's day we bumped right back up to the

80s. the big story the next couple of days is going to be elevated fire danger. let's check in with mike with breaking news. we do. we have an official traffic alert. let's start with the -- alert. it looks like our camera has found what appears to be an overturned vehicle this is northbound 880. you can see the activity. crews are on scene. there is an ambulance right now. i cannot make out the details, we probably do not want to see this. the map shows you, 262 near the bottom, that is the issue between 880 and 680. it is just north of tesla clear by the time you get to the parkway. we just found that on our

cameras. this is and continues to be an alert with only one lane open south 101 in sunnyvale. there is a crass tractor- trailer and two tire fires. this is still going on south 237. more delays and clear by the time you reach the expressway. despite those two incidents, those are both south of the bridge, everything else north is fine. coming out of the altamont pass -- i do see flashing lights at the san mateo bridge. you can see at the bottom of the screen there is some activity, looks like it is at the toll plaza. it looks like it is blocking lanes, but i do not think it is. all three lanes of west 900 to -- west 92 are clear. 4:52 this morning.

scientists just found micro plastic for the first time ever. >> happening now, -- will vote on expanding the number of teachers eligible to construct prekindergarten through third grade. this comes as california's traditional kindergarten program was set to include ages four and five. 7000 and 15,000 more state pre- k teachers will be needed. the vote is scheduled for wednesday. we will keep you posted.
