the campaign operation is into a disinformation campaign to try to overturn the election. that messaging was echoed by the riders. >> the president tried to overthrow the will of the people. maybe once the evidence is compiled by the justice department, we have to make a decision on whether we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt the president's guilt or anyone's. they need to be investigated to see if there is credible evidence. >> on wednesday and thursday we will -- on the justice department and on his own vice president, mike pence. nbc news will have live coverage of the second day of hearings and you can watch all of that this morning at seven at lock. also happening on capitol hill, a bipartisan group is agreeing on for work for stricter gun safety laws. this comes after 19 children and two teachers were killed

after 18 with an assault rifle open fired at that texas and elementary school. this could lead to what is the most significant change to gun law in decades. >> reporter: this is seen as a major breakthrough. the bipartisan compromise fall short from what president biden and democrats wanted. lawmakers say that it is a good first step for congress to end of the persistent inaction that we have seen over the years when it comes to gun violence. following mass shooting after mass shooting, after mass shooting, senators say that they have reached a deal in reducing gun violence. >> it is a substantial compromise that is going to stop a lot of suicides, a lot of homicides, and save a lot of lives in this country.

>> there will be some further tweaks that we are continuing to make. rovio requires background checks for gun violence. requiring them to check with local police. senators also agreed to help states take guns away from people who are a threat. closing a loophole to allow users to purchase guns. the nra said, we will make our position on when the full text of the bill is made available. the deal comes amid public outcry for action. with nationwide rallies this weekend demanding change to gun laws. >> we have the power to vote people out who do not want to pass gun legislation. >> reporter: have signed on to the bipartisan compromise. a positive sign that they can

get the 60 votes needed to become law. president biden thinks that it could be the most significant gun safety legislation to pass congress in decades. senators are pushing to vote on a bill regarding gun laws in the coming week. maybe that is the fastest action that we have seen in a long time. 6:06. the two suspects that kidnapped a san jose baby are going to be in court for a preliminary hearing. they pleaded not guilty to charges of the kidnapping in late april. prosecutors say that they plotted and try to kidnap that child at least three times before they finally succeeded. later this morning the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to go to trial. this evening, the budgeting nightmare board families trying

$6.43. if we take a look back in time, one year ago today, that same gallon of gas would've been $4.22. soon $6.43 a gallon can be america's reality. gas buddy's says that prices keep going up as gas inventory declines. also because of the situation between russia and ukraine. that situation is not improved. to top it off, demand is not slowing down. >> demand for gasoline has not gone down. not even with the high prices. i believe that will continue to push prices up for the weeks to come. i think the biggest concern arises in august. that is when we see the peak of hurricane season and with any major weather event or refinery disruption, we can see gas

prices climbing more significantly. >> reporter: higher prices at the pump leads to higher prices in stores. here are some steps you can use to save money. use a gas finding app to help you save a little money there. he was a gas credit card, and plan the most efficient route to your destination. google offers a fuel-efficient trip portion. minimize idling as much as you can. aaa also reports that there has been a skyrocketing the number of drivers that have actually run out of gas. there is an increase of calls to roadside assistance because people simply are on e. $7.19 a gallon. we are shocked at that five dollar a gallon rate that is now the national average.

right now. it will be interesting because it is still going to be warm but it will not be as muggy. i want to take you through the timing of your hourly forecast. look at fairfield, 77. morgan hill, 72. we will top out at the upper 70s, low 80s. as we head into tuesday and wednesday, the big thing is going to be the wind. notice it is about 12 degrees cooler at this hour compared to the past 24. it will be 15 degrees, san jose, almost 10 degrees. here's what to expect. he will be less muggy today. it was really humid. we will see less wind. those clouds will linger through tonight. through the middle of the week, the temperatures begin to rise yet again. it will be in the 90s which means elevated fire danger. we will see the increase in the wind, a low humidity rate.

looking out ahead into next weekend, we have a cooler and breezy friday. let's take a look at how tomorrow is going to shape out. there is a rise in temperatures into the 90s. 92 in fairfield. mid-80s for san jose. the wind is from the west, northwest. the hottest day will be wednesday. temperatures back into the 90s in northbay. in oakland, 80. san francisco will bump into the 70s by wednesday. mid-90s into the interior by thursday. we will start to cool off a little bit, it will be warm in the 80s. we continue to see that wind kicking up. especially in those high elevation areas. that will set us up for some cooling ahead. just to give you an idea, san francisco will go from 70s to 60s by thursday and friday. let's get an update on the

good morning. that is in 2020, the pandemic made air canada cancel in september of 2020. she expected them to refund her. she called repeatedly to request her money back. a year and a half later, nothing has been done.

we contacted go to gate. here is what the rep said, when nbc made us aware of the situation, we checked the booking upon the issue. we contacted air canada and refunded the customer. she got the 1800 dollars back. we have been through this rodeo so many times since the pandemic started. here's what we have learned, online travel agents do not always deliver the service you would expect. that is a huge problem. when you buy a ticket from an agent, the airline usually will not work with you to change or refund. why? because the airline expects the agent to do that work. if they don't, what is the point of the agent? a word to the wise, shop around when buying airline tickets. how much it cost to buy that ticket from the air carrier. he might be the same price without a middleman. that is how i book my flight.

first hearing thursday evening. today's star will be delayed. when it does happen, nbc will cover it. we expect silicon valley congressman will take the lead in questioning and presenting evidence. he represents most of santa clara county. including most of san jose. all the way down south. she has been in congress for 13 terms and before that worked with other members of congress which means she has a historic track record when it comes to president. she took part as a congressional staffer with nixon and it was on the defense of bill clinton. not just one but two impeachments of donald trump. no other person in washington has that kind of experience. as far as stipend goes, he is there on the left. he is expected to establish

hide the body. the body has never been found. two juries will be selected as both men are being tried separately. the case will move to montgomery county after it is determined that the peer could not get fair trials in their own counties. now you only see here on nbc bay area. a 15-year-old girl is in intensive care after a pellet gun attack. we are learning more about possible other victims. she was walking with a friend friday afternoon. a car pulled up behind them and shot her in the back. this is her x-ray. you can see that pellet is still lodged in her body. dr. say that it is too dangerous to remove it. she had to have a tube inserted into her longs to help her breathe. >> it almost hit my heart. it broke my ridge and it caused internal bleeding. also, it might've been a funny

prank. my whole summer trip was canceled because of this. it is very hard. it is not a joke. newly she believes that attack might've been a prank. maybe encouraged on tiktok is a challenge. her father says that police and hospital staff told him that there have been three other pellet gun attacks with injuries reported that same day. the san jose police have not confirmed that. so be a hate crime investigation is underway in alameda county. a group of men stormed into story hours screaming homophobic and trans-phobic slurs. the incident happened on the library on saturday during the quiet reading time with a drag

queen. witnesses say that the group disrupted the event. they were acting aggressively. they were saying slurs against the lgbtq community. they want to be sure that the lgbtq community can celebrate pride month. they will respond to any threats to the community. developing now, mandatory evacuations were issued overnight as a fire burning near the edge of national forests in southern california get closer to home. >> those flames are moving towards a small town in san bernardino county. annette romero is at the scene with the latest force this morning. >> reporter: we are along the highway 148. this is our view of the fire right now. you can the orange low scattered throughout the mountains. the pockets of flame continued to burn. he remains quite active overnight.

this just came into our newsroom. as of late sunday, the fire had already scorched 999 acres. it has 5% containment. officials say that battling the blaze is especially challenging because of the dense vegetation and steep terrain as well as the wind they have had to deal with. there is an evacuation center at the high school. those with small animals you can drop them off at the annual bull -- animal shelter. they have also opened up their area for larger livestock that can be dropped off. the fire right now is under investigation. we will send it back to you in the studio. >> we are tracking the conditions there overnight. it makes us nervous because we are in the same boat up here.

>> reporter: the big concern, the wind is a factor. that is something that is inspected to increase heading into tonight and tomorrow as well. >> the current conditions around that area, it is 61 degrees. the temperatures are okay right now. notice by 12:00 or 1:00 we bump into the 80s. the temperatures, the wind and the humidity. hour by hour right now, no rain in sight. the skies will remain clear. as we head into the afternoon. those winds from the west will pick up to 25 miles per hour. it will be tough going into tonight and into the next couple days before we see any cooling. we will talk more about that and local weather coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with mike. the ongoing issue of fire happening before 4:00 this morning. you notice the rush and the

if you are waiting for the hourly, what are the temperatures going to look at hourly. today at 9:00 a.m. we will be in the 60s, going into the 70s right around lunch hour. 12:00, one of, upper 70s for areas like fairfield. morgan hill, 70. we will top out in the low 80s for the interior. notice around san francisco, upper 60s on the forecast. he will not be the warmest day. we still have a ways to go. this is what it is looking like. remember, whatever we consider warm temperatures have to take into account that the winds will pick up over the next couple days. it will dry us out. that brings elevated fire danger. if there is a wind gust, down through the south it will be between 15 and 20 miles per hour. especially in those higher elevations. here is a closer look at what to expect heading into tuesday. look at the valleys, 80s to 90s with a breezy wind.

90 degrees, right on the warmest day is expected to be on wednesday. mid-90s fort fairfield. morgan hill, 93. now in wednesday and thursday we will file change. a little bit of cooling, still warm. it does show some cooling heading into friday with a system to the north. now looking ahead to father's day, on sunday things are going to warm back up. here's a closer look at your seven-day forecast. will be breezy thursday and friday. notice the cooldown. down into the 70s by thursday. it is still the same which is not good for northbound 101. as we are looking over here, we can see that there are lanes blocked. in the last few seconds we have had another lane open and now we have three lanes on southbound 101. pass the truck fire and all the activity there.
