expecting that to stick around. tune in and about 15 minutes for that info. a beautiful shot at san francisco but the temperatures will be warmer today because of high pressure. this will help build our temperatures and also increased fire concerns. this will also bump us into the 70s and some upper 80s into the interior valleys heading into wednesday. it is expected to be the warmest day of the week. how warm? i would have those details in a few minutes but first let's check in with mike. >> we have more traffic building at the bay bridge toll plaza but it sorted itself out the last 10. everyone got into a rush and now it's moving out on the map we see no problems for the maze. a little slowing through richmond which is typical and also out of vallejo and highway 4. moving north there is a crash in napa, highway 29 at 221 that will be an issue. won

of two lanes is blocked. that's an issue locally. south of here you are doing just fine around the bay. this morning all eyes are again on the stock market. wall street is set to open higher as the markets look to bounce back. here's a look at the futures. the dow tumbling 876 points and is now 17% off its record high. investors are bracing for the possibility of a federal reserve that will be more aggressive in hiking interest rates later this week to combat inflation. as dominic chu explains, this follows friday's hot read on consumer prices. >> the fed has to worry about whether or not it can stick to those game plans and whether or not wall street will believe them down the line. that's why that credibility is so , right now. >> the fed will wrap up a two- day meeting tomorrow and traders are pricing in the hike of three quarters of a percent which hasn't happened since 1994.

everyone is already feeling those rising prices. housing costs are up by .5% for food costs are up 10% and fuel prices, as we all know, are up 107%. this has jumped 30% alone in the last three weeks. later today president biden will travel to philadelphia for a convention where he is expected to speak about the economy . 6:03. on capitol hill this week the house committee examining what led to the january 6th capitol riot is making his case. here's a look at washington. this is where we heard that riveting testimony from former president trump's inner circle. >> all come from the inside but inside it was wild. brie jackson joins us. a lot of that focus was on the spread of disinformation about the election results. >> reporter: that's right. good morning. that was the center of yesterday's hearing, the spread

about former president trump's pressure campaign on the justice department and his own vice president to overturn the 2020 election results. >> you talked about former attorney general william barber admitting that president trump was detached from reality. now we have a different attorney general so what is he saying, merrick garland, about the january 6th investigation? >> reporter: merrick garland is trying to make it clear that he is watching these hearings, as well as prosecutors and they january 6th investigation. garland said release mentioned there is no policy that would prevent going after former or current administration officials come or senior government officials, when it comes to their investigation. garland also repeated the justice department will follow the facts and the law as they continue to do their investigation into the january 6th attack.

an interesting considering what we heard yesterday about the people looking for pardons preemptively too. thank you. also this morning we are learning new details about an attack and robbery on a postal worker in the east bay which happened yesterday afternoon around 12:30 in lafayette next to highway 24 apple ennis high school. authorities say the worker had to go to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. no word on how much mail was stolen and whether it was male or her own personal property. this morning health could be on the way for students struggling to make it in the bay. proposed state senate bill would provide a guaranteed income for students with no place to live. bob redell joining us from the east bay. this sounds like a good deal. how much money are we talking about? >> reporter: good morning. senator dave cortese he of silicon valley proposed the bill

, senate bill 1341, which if passed would help unhoused high school seniors. to answer your question, sb 1341 would provide $1000 a month stipend for five months for those students who graduated high school to allow them time to enroll in college, a vocational program, or to get a job. in california there were 15,000 unhoused seniors would benefit from this. senator dave cortese said this guaranteed income would break the cycle of homelessness for students . >> now instead of being here, you are meeting everyone at the same level psych you can xl brother and beyond versus i'm going to sacrifice my study time so i can find a comfortable place in my car to sleep at night, or i'm going to sacrifice coming to class because i need to work in order to get myself. >> these are young people whose families are homeless. these aren't kids wandering around the street without a

last week covid experts were hopeful that we had hit the peak, but now cases are once again on the rise. look at this chart from the chronicle using public health data. cases started to dip earlier this month in the bay area now reporting nearly 3400 new cases per day. this is up 25% from the week before. we turn to one of our covid experts for answers. >> it's could be fallout from memorial day. we expected a delay in reporting. what i'm really looking at is hospitalizations. and at ucsf we still continue to be relatively flat, is not going down but if you cases per day. >> in the meantime the fda will meet today and tomorrow to authorize covid vaccines for children under the age of five and dr. chin-hong believes they can get those vaccines as early as next week . we also spoke with dr. chin-hong about more on the current state of the covid certain what's next you can watch the full report online at nbcbayarea.com on our home page. let's take a live look

6:15. look at the temperatures in dublin. we start out in the 50s but a quick rise into the 70s and then into the 80s by 12:00. it's going to be a warm afternoon with lots of sunshine but also concerns heading into the week and a roller coaster of temperatures. full forecast in just a few minutes. so far we have an easy ride or drive on the roadways. this is fremont 880 around fremont boulevard. light traffic flow here but i do have an issue coming into fremont from the peninsula. the dumbarton bridge has one issue i'm tracking. the ceos of several major automakers are asking congress to lift the cap on how many people can get a tax credit to buy hybrid or electric vehicles. currently tax credits are capped at 200,000 per company. gm and tesla have reached the

limit and toyota is close to it. the automakers say credits have allowed them to sell more affordable cars and speed of the adoption of electric vehicles. here is a live look at sfo and american airlines giving massive pay raises in hopes of easing a nationwide pilot shortage that may have already hampered your summer plans. the raises will only be allowed at pilots of two of americans regional airlines, piedmont airlines and envoy air. there will be a 50% increase that will take place through the end of august 2024. the temporary raises will mean new hire first officers in their first year of flying will make $90 per hour, which is up from $51 per hour. the first year captains, the pay will be 146 hours -- one to $46 per hour. i don't think that really affects us those two airlines. they don't fly here.

traffic in just a moment but first we want to get a look at the forecast. i wanted to show you some of the warmest spot that are expected to climb into the upper 80s and low 90s. it is going to warm up rather quickly. we have a 54 degrees and by 9:00 a.m., in the 60s. i 10:00 a.m., already in the 70s. right around lunchtime, mid-80s for the interior valleys. in the north bay, temperatures will warm quickly. notice by 12:00 or 1:00, in the 80s as well. tomorrow will be even hotter. i will tell you more about that in a few minutes. we are following breaking news this morning. this child is coming into our newsroom from e to we have learned tomorrow's health committee hearing on the january 6th capitol riot is

being postponed. there is no word on why. the next hearing will now take place on thursday. the recent hearings, and testimony from the inner circle of president trump, much of the focus was on the spread of this information about the election results. turning to our climate crisis coverage, we knew it was coming because of the drought. water rates are expected to go up in san jose next month. but what is in store for the rest of us? today in the bay's is live at lexington is where water levels are pretty low. >> that's right. good morning. you can see what they like just how low. right now, only 49% capacity. about half capacity at lexington reservoir. take a look at this map of drought conditions. much of the state isn't red and in the extreme category. is paid martin sanitary valley water district are expected to hold meetings today and talk

about the latest water conditions and rates. in san jose, many customers can expect rates to go up next month. the increase in san jose municipal water system which serves 136,000 residents in north san jose, and the increase comes as the region faces another extended drought and follows last year's rate hikes. san jose expects operating cost will go up and will need to make up for that with higher rates. actual rates will vary by customer and water usage, but it is rich bill, somewhat in the north end of the service area will likely be an additional $24 a month. evergreen area residents can expect an additional $16 per month. we heard a lot of talk about this at the meetings and really being closely watched today. i

the state capitol in sacramento. this morning, california is a step closer to a state budget. they passed it late last night. however, governor newsom is not on board. version passes a $300 billion budget but the governor wants to see more immediate and direct help for families with rising costs and groceries. lawmakers had to pass the budget by wednesday or else they didn't get paid. that's according to the state constitution. also today, the city of san jose, the council will vote on the mayor's recommendations for his budget. he wants to add more police officers to the city's ranks. including 20 more officers the patrol downtown. and four officers to expand the mobile crisis assessment team which paris police with mental health professionals. this is all part of the ongoing

efforts to expand the police force. the supreme court could soon issue an opinion on roe versus wade and you might remember, it was a leaked draft that was released last month indicating that the supreme court is set to overturn roe v. wade. today, vice president kamala harris is expected to meet with lawmakers from across the country to discuss what is at stake. also in response, san mateo county board of supervisors will provide $1 million to planned parenthood later today. another aspect of the plan includes creating a buffer zone around planned parenthood clinics in order to protect patients and employees from harassment. a follow-up for you this morning. san jose police are investigating three pellet gun attacks. over the weekend, we told you about a 15-year-old girl who was hit in the back while walking with a friend. she was hospitalized and has since been released but

suffered extensive injuries including a fractured rib. police confirm there were two more pellet gun attacks the same day. a 9-year-old girl was hit near westgate mall and a woman also shot near stevens creek boulevard. police are still searching for who is responsible. developing now, the fire burning their angeles national forest is causing new evacuations. that fire started saturday and has scorched nearly 1000 acres. it is now 27% contain. firefighters say cooler when and slower when could help get to the flames quicker and more easily. our meteorologist is tracking those conditions in that area. how is the weather helping those firefighters now?

a look at your seven-day forecast. 74 degrees and by thursday we dropped down with temps only topping out in the upper 60s. thursday and friday, 66 degrees. the sunshine six around and 63 degrees for saturday. the most notable change will be in the interior. this is quite a temperature drop with a roller coaster of 90s on tuesday and wednesday, down into the 80s for thursday, that system passes to our north that will help pull us off into the 70s for friday and saturday. nice and comfortable but by sunday into monday, the temps increase yet again by as much as 10, 15+ degrees in a lot of those interior valleys. 82 on sunday and upper 80s and back into the low 90s. how are the roads, mike? looking all right. were looking at the map with some slowing patterns unless 80. the wisher freeway, there is a

we are moving you far with a look at our top stories here on today in the bay . a 15-year-old girl was shot and killed last night in east palo alto. it happened just before 9:00 p.m. . this is dear an alley between manhattan and euclid. police say the two male suspects were seen running towards --. a motive is not yet released. anyone with information is being asked to call is palo alto police . this morning, all eyes are on the stock market. a live look as wall street open just about an hour ago. nice to see the green after yesterday. the dow tumbled 876 points, 70% of the record high. investors are bracing for the possibility that the federal reserve will be more aggressive in hiking interest rates later this week in order to combat inflation. traders are pricing in a hike of

three quarters of a percent. to date president biden is expected to speak in philadelphia about the economy. housing costs are up 5.5%, food costs are up 10% in fuel prices are up, so high, 107% higher jumping 30% alone just in the last three weeks. a head on that is a show, our coverage continues taking a deeper look at the mounting concerns over the economy. the supreme court soon issue an opinion on roe versus wade. political published a leaked draft opinion last month indicating that the supreme court is set to overturn it. in response, san mateo county's board of supervisors will provide a $1 million to planned parenthood. another aspect of the plan would it create a buffer zone around clinics in order to protect patients and employees from harassment. this morning, there are some mixed messages about the bay areas covid surge.

cases are now on the rise once again. take a look at this chart from the chronicle. cases dipped earlier this month in the bay area is reporting 4400 new cases a day. this is up 25% from the week before. the fda will meet today and tomorrow to authorize covid vaccine for kids under the age of 5. kids can start getting the vaccine as early as next week. here is an effort to help on how students make it in the bay. a senator is pushing a bill that would guarantee income for on house youth following their graduation from high school. here is how it works. they would get $1000 a month stipend for five months. 15,000 california students will be eligible path. the senator says basic income predto use that money have a proven track record. > time to get a look at the
