57 in palo alto and a quick look at your temperature trend. notice the icons. there may be clouds rolling through initially but then it clears through the afternoon and then i will talk more about the full forecast in a few minutes. this morning all eyes once again on wall street. here's a look at the futures ahead of the opening bell. it doesn't look good. wall street set to open lower potentially giving up all of yesterday's bed fueled gains. this is following a historic and aggressive move on fighting inflation. the federal reserve is expected to hike interest rates by three quarters of a point. it's the biggest increase in more than 30 years. brie jackson is live in washington this morning and this is the third hike we've seen this year and more may be to come.

>> reporter: that's right. jerome powell, the fed chair, pledge to do what it takes to tame inflation while seeking to avoid a recession. the federal reserve going big, raising interest rates by a historic three quarters of a percent. biggest hike since 1994. >> we strongly committed to bringing inflation back down and removing expeditiously to do so. >> reporter: the move will make payments more expensive on everything from mortgages and car loans to big business loans. home buyers in the market now remain cautious. >> i feel pressured to bite now as opposed to waiting a few months because who knows what the prices will be then. >> reporter: this as american families are already struggling with high food and fuel prices president biden slamming u.s. oil giants for record profits and putting pressure on them to do more. >> he is calling for an increase in production both of producing and extracting oil but also refining it >> reporter: the oil industry says u.s. refiners today are running at or near capacity but still demand is outpacing supply.

meanwhile, people are doing what they can to stay afloat. some even selling plasma to make ends meet. >> in order to make sure there is enough food to go around and the lights are on and i got gas in the gas tank. >> reporter: others reconsidering summer vacation plans due to higher prices for gas and flights. >> it's making me not want to trouble right now. >> reporter: is more american steel the financial stress, the biden administration says driving down costs remains a top priority. chairman powell said additional rate hikes are likely. the fed is expected to raise interest rates by at least another half a percent next month. >> and that's not good, especially in the bay area where it's already expensive to buy anything. brie jackson in washington. thank you. also on capitol hill, the house committee examining what led to the january 6th capitol

riot will once again start making its case. a third hearing is set to get underway this morning. vice president mike pence and the pressure he was under before and during the siege is the focus today. we are in washington with more on what to expect. >> reporter: good morning. today's hearing is about what the committee describes as a pressure campaign on mike pence. it started in december and built every day as more and more legal challenges by former president trump were getting thrown out with trump and his allies leaning on pants to do something that had never been done before and set aside votes and the state electoral votes and declare trump the winter. the committee intends to show today and what we learned from a member of the committee and from testimony we will see today is that pence consistently stood up to trump. he had legal advice telling him he could not do it and leaned extensively on his face which told him he needed to follow the law and the constitution.

we will also hear about how close the mob came to the vice president who as this committee member described to me in the interview was just one windowpane away from the rioters during the worst of the attack. more on that coming up on today. >> so much to learn. thank you. there's hearing start in a few hours at 10:00 and you can watch them live here on nbc bay area in a special report. our team will also bring you updates on what comes out of that hearing later tonight on nbc bay area news and nbcbayarea.com. the biden administration said it's shipping 44,000 pounds of specialty baby formula from switzerland to the u.s. today amid ongoing shortage. this comes at the michigan plant that recently resumed production of baby formula is shut down again. abbott said severe thunderstorms and heavy rain flooded parts of the factory. the company was forced to close the plant to sanitize it and then it has to work with a third-party to make sure the plant is safe to resume

production. abbott said it's expected to setback production a few weeks. and we have a glimpse of how our climate in crisis is impacting farmers in the north bay. the crop report is out and the lingering drought is taking a toll. the data shows the loss of 5% of agriculture last year compared to 2020. the dry conditions are impacting field crops, livestock come up fruits, and vegetables. according to the report, organic milk was leading agricultural commodity in marin county. production was down 8% last year. it's not just california experiencing worrisome climate change. severe weather is heading parts of the midwest with full strength and right now montana declared a state of emergency as yellowstone national park was hit with severe flooding. many roads have been washed out and covered by holders, and nearly 10,000 people had to evacuate the part. meteorologist vianey arana is here to talk about the dangers

the severe flooding is causing. >> and these are signs of a bigger picture. it's not just daily weather that makes an impact. let's get to the climate in crisis. the flooding in yellowstone is a sign of more than just melting snow. scientists say climate change is causing a significant change in the amount of snow that falls in yellowstone come this also means warmer temperatures are making that snow melt faster , which then flows into rivers that spanned the continent from the gulf of mexico to the pacific ocean. these changes are expected to result in the loss or relocation of native species, altering vegetation patterns, and reducing water availability in certain regions and areas down the street. scientists say a 2014 assessment of the magnitude and direction of the ongoing climate change and yellowstone national park show recent climatic conditions are already shifting beyond the historical range. for more climate change stories like this one, check out nbcbayarea.com and click on

and hopefully you have some advice to keep some money in our pockets. >> reporter: good morning. i hope i have some advice that will help folks. as we know, we have been following disinflation story for weeks. gas is higher than ever right now. we are at the chevron station in mill valley pick-six dollars 99 for a gallon of unleaded. combine that with increasing food prices and many folks are finding it hard to make it but a federal rate hike could potentially cool down inflation and make it easier for us to all navigate life. on wednesday the central bank announced a rate increase 0.75%. assigned that is acting aggressively to fight rising consumer prices but this will impact how much it will cost for banks to borrow money from each other and consumers will spend less and heightened demand for goods one of the drivers of inflation will drive slowdown. it's unlikely we will seek relief in the short time finance experts say now is the time to cut expenses to make

about 5% of apartments are vacant right now. san jose is seeing the second slowest mental recovery rates in the country the average cost for a one bedroom is nearly $2200 a month. neighbors say a shuttered school in the south bay is becoming a nuisance due to recent crime and insulin one glider elementary school in the south san jose area has closed for 4 years now. and due to budget cuts and declining enrollment. some windows have been shattered and boarded up the building has been vandalized with graffiti. san jose police have responded to the campus 10 times this year mostly for crimes involving juveniles. in two weeks ago, a fourteener what was robbed on school property. >> and grab his bike and basically said, we have a gun and my backpack. he had a hand in his backpack like he was holding a gun and

basically said, give me your bike. >> the most recent plans we could find said the campus could be turned into a residential area. we reached out to the school district and the company that purchased the property but have not heard back. this morning we are moving you forward. the fda advisory panel is signing off on both pfizer and moderna shots for the youngest children. if the fda and cdc give full approval, vaccines could be ready for children younger than 5 by next week. dr. maldonado, standards leading investigator for the pfizer trials that those who got the shots so significant increases in covid antibodies. she understands some parents may be skeptical but is asking them to keep an open mind about the science behind the shots. >> we know the vaccines have now been used in hundreds of millions of people around the world and they have been shown to be more safe and effective than any other vaccine we've

ever really studied. >> the doctor encourages parents to talk to their own pediatricians with their concerns. >> because these vaccines are much smaller, those dosages are smaller as well so i want to break it down for you. the moderna vaccine consist of two shots given across four weeks. those doses are 25 micrograms. this is a quarter of what adults are given and then you have the pfizer vaccine. three doses of that for those kids pick the first two shots are given three weeks apart followed by a third shot eight weeks later. the pfizer vaccine for kids under 5 is also the lower doses. 3 micrograms and this is versus 30 micrograms today, president bill clinton will be in the south bay as he is one of several dignitaries scheduled to speak at norman mineta's memorial service. this is a live look at san jose civic auditorium name in mineta's honor where the memorial will get underway at

10:30 this morning. mineta's remains returned yesterday at san jose international. mineta served in a cabinet position under president linton and george w. bush and also served at the san jose mayor and served 20 years in congress. he died last month at the age of 90 . state utility leaders say several companies violated protocol put in place to protect you from wildfires and they want them to pay up. the california public utilities commission is proposing three utility companies be fined $22 million. among them is pg&e, southern california edison and san diego gas and electric. those fines are allegedly due to violations of required power shut off rules put in place. in the pg&e case, the proposed order said the utility did not adequately notify its customers and did not explain the factors behind the shutoffs. take a live look at this beautiful picture. this is a

look at the bay bridge as the sun is starting to rise. we do see some clouds for yesterday we did not see any at all. >> we have some high clouds rolling through because we have a dry cold front. that means we will not get any rain of this, but it will help cool us off in time for the weekend. heading into today we see temperatures in the 60s in san francisco. by tomorrow and saturday as the system passes to the north, you could see a chance for morning drizzle. no heavy downpours, just a little bit of drizzle on the coast with temperatures in the 60s. notice by sunday and monday, temperature start to bump up so we see a warm-up. condition stay clear. the biggest changes through inland areas where we drop another 10 degrees compared to the 90s. we go into the 70s for a call friday and saturday and then we warm into the 80s to celebrate father's day. we have an issue on vasco
