moving even in the dark. even though it is black and white you can see there is a glow from the flames over the hillside. firefighters say some homes are threatened and they have evacuated people. right now the fire has burned 200 acres and there is no word on containment. >> officials are calling for an immediate evacuation for those areas north of jacqueline drive , south of west leland road, east of bailey road, and west of san remo way. here's a look at the evacuation map on your screen. we are told many people feel are gathering at a nearby safe way. bob redell is heading to the fire zone area and we will have a live report as soon as he arrives. >> for now we want to turn to meteorologist vianey arana who is tracking conditions. he warned the wind would pick up and we would see increased fire danger.
4:32 am
>> the three components we look at when we have elevated fire danger are the temperatures come humility, and win. right now the temperatures remain cool in the 50s and we are heading into the afternoon with a cooler trend, along with breezy wind. the wind will still play a factor heading into the afternoon. right now they are from the west-northwest around 12 miles per hour. heading into the 9:00 hour after the sun comes out, noticed the temperatures will bump into the 60s. overnight we typically see a nice recovery of humidity so that should help for now before we get the sunshine and then continued to dry out with a drop in humidity. heading into the weekend we continue to see the breezy wind so we will definitely be keeping a close eye on the temperatures and also the wind when it comes to the contra costa area and the entire bait area heading into the evening.

4:46 and we are following breaking news forcing people from their homes. this is a brush fire burning in a nature preserve and pittsburg. this is video from this morning. you can see the glow before daylight. firefighters say some homes are threatened and they have asked people to leave. this is video posted on twitter. you can see the flames on the hillside. right now the fire has burned 200 acres. we know that number changes once firefighters can see the fire in daylight. no word on containment yet. >> officials are calling for an immediate evacuation for the areas north of jacqueline drive. look at this map. south of west cleveland road. east of bailey road. west of san remo way.
4:48 am
we were told many of those people fleeing their homes this morning are gathering at a nearby safe way. we spoke with one of those evacuees. >> at first i was like, probably, it's going to burn for sure. we just had to move some cars and were evacuating. but then as marked by departments showed up, we will probably be okay. and then we were okay. >> this is a quick moving fire and things are changing. bob redell is at the fire and will have a live report at 5:00. >> a big part of the firefight is also the weather. meteorologist vianey arana is tracking the conditions. you said the wind would pick up and fire danger might be high. >> one thing your monitoring in addition to that is how humid are dry it is out there. let's take a look at the conditions. throughout the bay area is we are starting out in the 50s and we are running a few degrees cooler today.
4:49 am
that's fantastic already seeing a 3 degree difference compared to the past 24 hours. if we zoom in on pittsburg , look at the temperature trend. by 9:00 or 10:00 we are in the 60s with a mix of sun and clouds. the wind is pretty light coming in around 9 miles per hour from the west. now we need to factor in the changing windspeed into the afternoon. right now this area will be between breezy at times and not gusty which is great because dusty is when we get into the area of concern. the third factor we look at is how dry it's going to get out there. if we look at the fire danger and index humidity at 5:00 a.m., notice the percentages are good. overnight we get a nice recovery. anything above 40% is more favorable in the fight against fires because that means we see an improvement in the humidity. however heading into the afternoon, if i push this to 2:30, look at this area. we start to dry out and drop
4:50 am
below 40%. 33%. 40%. we stay above the 50s and 60s in the coastline in the south bay. pair that up with the dry brush that remains. we haven't seen significant rain in quite some time. this will still remain a possible concern but the good news at least we see a nice recovery and humidity thanks to a system to our north bringing showers. you can see that on satellite radar. we will also get mark cloud cover compared to yesterday. the seven-day forecast shows the weekend. we have that system to our north which will bring the chance for showers and we are monitoring the wind. the gustier wind will remain only on the coastline. there sunday and monday we start to warm up and by monday we see that dominant high pressure once again just in time for the warriors game day parade. temperatures start to bump up. nearing the triple digits by tuesday.
4:51 am
the three big things. a nice recovery and humidity. that will be helpful. the wind is calm and the pittsburg area. that will be helpful. also cooler temperatures despite that we have plenty of dry brush which will serve as fuel so that something we need to monitor closely, and we will make sure to follow. let's get a check of the roads that may be impacted from this fire with mike. >> talking about the fire in pittsburg-bay point. the border is where the roads are we are concerned with. over all this contra costa county drive is one of the first to show slowing. the arrow is not slowing on the upper right but that is the early traffic we expect out of antioch into pittsburg. unaffected right now because highway 4 is open in both directions. eastbound is the closer side to gately length where the fire is leland, west leland road, bailey, those of the two major
4:52 am
roads that will border the evacuation area extending toward railroad avenue the blue square with the whistle is the safe white area where there is an evacuation point set up. kirker password is a great cut through from highway 4 to walnut creek and that is open without delay. a smooth drive for the rest of the day. the palo alto camera shows this tale is heading north towards san mateo. there is a closure on highway 101 north of hillsdale from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m. on sunday for work. 4:52. two newly elected bay area sheriffs are making california history. san mateo sheriff elect christina corpus and alameda county sheriff elect yesenia sanchez of the first to be elected sheriff in the state history. both say they are excited to take office and make positive change in their communities. i'm really happy. excited that i can actually make some changes
