>> reporter: marcus, good morning. while many americans have been celebrating juneteenth for decades and it is a federal holiday, half the states in the united states have not made it a state holiday. across the country, juneteenth celebrations kicked into high gear over the weekend commemorating the day in 1865 where enslaved people in galveston texas learned that they were free. two years after president lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation. he did not become a federal holiday until last year with the stroke of president biden's pen. >> you cannot rest until the qualities for each and every one of us. that is the meaning of juneteenth. that is what it is about. >> reporter: in fort worth texas, there was a 2.5 mile walk . she is known as the grandmother of juneteenth.

good morning, happy monday to you. the stock market will be closed to recognize juneteenth. the stock market and government agencies will be closed today. it was declared a federal holiday last year. that declaration came so fast that the markets could not adjust their schedules and time. you're looking at friday's closing numbers. the best thing we can say is that it will go down today. that we are sure of. as we worry about the economy, a reminder that the stock market is not the economy. they are certainly interrelated. as for cryptocurrency, what can
6:17 am
we say about that? it has been falling really hard. people are realizing how hard it is to get their money out of those online crypto services. bitcoin is still under $20,000. elon musk is tweeting his support for another cryptocurrency, dog point. he is a huge hero to the crypto crowd. it was created as a parody. in a weird twist of fate, people started buying and the price went up. people started taking what was supposed to be satire, seriously. he is talking about pepto currency on saturday night live. it is hard to tell if he is joking. that is the finest way to parody something.
6:18 am
to pretend it is not a parody. it is a parody. that is why he thinks it's funny. the characters he is playing definitely drop the satire. >> what is a, man? it is cryptocurrency that you can trade for conventional money. it's a hustle? yeah, it is a hustle. >> elon musk on snl last year. we have a lot of data around housing. the theory is that the spike in interest rates will press the construction of new housing which has the effect of making current housing prices go up even more. it seems like there is no economic data that does not keep house prices from going up.
6:19 am
who knows? nobody knows but i can tell you, historically, it has been nothing but up. >> thank you very much, scott. you spent an extra night in dallas over the weekend. it was great for scott and a lot of other folks. 100 flights were canceled to jackson international airport on sunday. most of them are delta flights. the airline also experienced a similar thing on saturday we have all traveled through there at some point. one of the worst summer travel days was thursday. more than 10,000 flights were canceled or delayed nationwide. delta cited in a statement on sunday morning that a majority of those flights were delayed because of weather. over the weekend, bride returns to san francisco this week.

southern sierra that could spark a few thunderstorms. it is possible that by the time it reaches the bay area, the rain dries up. there might be some potential. we will keep an eye on that. it will be warm heading into the weekend with highs in the upper 80s. mike, you have been watching several issues trying to get around the bay area this morning. s, just getting ready in the tri-valley, look at this. all the lanes of southbound 680, they have cleared. there is already backup for 84 and 60. i did want to show folks in the east bay, slowing down the freeway, there are a couple of crashes. there is a delay on the richmond line. we'll talk about more, coming up, back to you. >> thanks, mike. today in the bay, we respond.

6:35 am
idea to drive your car, right? maybe not. bob, great job out there. it has been going on since yesterday. even if you can get there smoothly in your car, you have to find parking. here is the stretch that bob showed you. it is one .5 miles. that is not an adjustment for drivers. that route means reroutes and closures just off the bay bridge. it will be a little stressful getting into the city and around town. i will talk about that coming up. there is also an issue for trains getting out of richmond into the city. they are going to start running more trains more frequently as we get closer to parade time, closer to 9:00 a.m. meanwhile, it is pretty smooth right now. we do not expect trains to stop at the montgomery station. again, those closures will add
6:36 am
to the train capacity. there will be two special trains before and to after. >> i cannot believe bob was messing with that poor man. you can watch the parade live here on nbc bay area. we will have exclusive interviews with the players and we will have hard-hitting question ask her, marcus washington. the coverage starts at 9:30 this morning. it will air on the nbc sports bay area. again, coverage begins at 9:30. >> my question is, where's the after party? it is 6:36 this morning. we are working to learn more about a hate crime investigation underway this morning out of east bay.

the worst thing we can do, would be to start to stop inflation and not do enough to slay the dragon. a reminder, the board of governors and the federal market committees are controlling interest rates. not the president. the central bank is independent from the white house. looking ahead, the white house should release more supreme court rulings soon. we are waiting for the genuine release of the previously leaked case involving roe v wade . that is a constitutionally protected right, right now. it may not be soon. the other major case that we are waiting on has to do with guns. the court already ruled that you have the right to own a gun
6:49 am
to defend your home. you have a right to carry that gun outside your home were protecting yourself. some states say that you have to be a good reason to carry a gun outside your home. they say that right extends outside the house. they want to restrict open carry, like california, it is unconstitutional. they will detail rights, and they will expand rights. will talk about this more tomorrow where we may get those decisions. we are always talking on social media. questions and answers and opinions and ideas. on facebook, you will find me at -- thanks, scott. there is new technology that could be the answer for first responders when the next big natural disaster hits. take a look at this. it is a solar company, stephanie soler. it has a nano grid that it showed off here in san francisco. it can provide power, clean water, and wi-fi.
