right now. moving south. you can see the rotation in the bay area. it is moving away from the bay area but we still have a chance. but there is still a chance as we get the monsoon moisture moving in. it gets drawn into the southwest and bay area. this shows the water vapor imagery that can spark off thunderstorms when the energy is warm. gradually, that humidity is going to be decreasing but it is going to be a hot day. good morning, vanney. how is it looking for the commute? >> good morning, kari. things are quiet. we had a couple of overnight construction spots. you can see the overall green which is great. we still have what seems like an accident that just popped up

if you are coming from 205 through tracy. south bay drive times right now, 101 from highway 85, about 18 minutes and northbound 85 to 101. we'll have a look at the drive times coming up. >> thank you very much. developing now, san francisco police released this image of a person of interest who may be connected to that deadly shooting on board a muni train. >> it happened yesterday morning. that shooter ran off the train at the castro station. the search for the gunman continues. >> reporter: you are looking at a picture just released from san francisco police. he is a person of interest in wednesday's fatal muni shooting. the shooting happened aboard a muni subway train at about 10:00 a.m. >> sounded like there was an altercation between folks that may have known each other in

the train in between castro and fourth. one person had a gun. >> an agent here heard the shots as the train left. when police got to the castro station, they encountered two victims, one person killed by a bullet, the other victim believed to be a bistander suffering from nonlife threatening injury. >> very troubling, upsetting. >> the fact that it is pride week in san francisco and thousands coming to celebrate, police want to ensure people that the shooting was not a hate time. >> i want to reassure the community that this event was not targeting the pride event or targeting the lgbtq community. >> adam bennett rides muni often. he hopes that police will get answers. >> i hope that was not

targeted. i had to take muni to get here. >> today, the nurses at dali medical center will conclude their two-day strike. >> they are demanding changes to staffing and pay and they say that the problems go deeper including things like inadequate amount of basic supplies. new contract talks are also at a stand still. the contract on the table, the hospital says, offers fair benefits including a 12% increase. san francisco's laurel high school will soon return to performance-based admission. last night, the change was voted to be effective in the fall of 2023, despite the recommendation from the superintendent to maintain lottery admissions for another year. the board made a switch to a lottery two years ago and

triggered outrage among some parents. many consider it a driving force in the recall election. in monterey beach, a man was attacked by a shark near the aquarium. we have video of the rescue moment after that attack. we talked with some of those good samaritans who raced in to save him. >> we were making our way back. we heard a man shouting for help. >> surveillance video shows a man after a shark attack t good samaritans paddling towards a man about 150 offshore, attacked by a shark. >> they were here for their anniversary from sacramento and paddle boarding when i had happened. paul got to him first. >> he was hemorrhaging a lot.

1960 until now. the population of california has gone from 15 million to 40 million but the attack on the sharks are the same. >> authorities used a drone to try to find the shark but had no luck. friends and family identify the swimmer as dee plummer, a member of a local dive team. relief at the pump could be coming soon but may not all be good. the reason that experts here that a gas tax holiday may actually hurt

[ laughter ] >> we're both here. >> wait a minute. >> we have a look at the forecast. are we getting some cooler temperatures today, kari? >> it won't be that much cooler, unfortunately. it will be a while until we get relief. we may see some lightning strikes that may be happening over the central valley, right over i-5. you can see south of los gados, some showers going on and really lighting up the sky. we are seeing a lot of lightning strikes over the

sierra foothills and it's unfortunately going to continue with higher humidity. that's a shot at the clear skies. let me show you our temperature trend for the day. it starts out humid in the upper 60s and we'll still see temperatures in the upper 80s for much of the afternoon. normal high temperatures about 83 degrees and we'll hit 92. it's still going to be hot, reaching 96 in livermore, fairfield, 98 degrees and low 90s for much of the north bay with san francisco in the mid- 70s. that's where we are seeing some relief from the high heat. and there will still be a wide range of temperatures tomorrow with some low 70s in half moon bay. san mateo reaching 77 degrees and 98 in concord and some low 90s for san jose. we're still in the 90s in some spots in the inland valleys, going into saturday but at least with the coastal fog, there will be some places that will feel much more comfortable and we'll see drier air moving in. we have been talking about the strange weather.

everybody is like, what is going on? this is the start of monsoon season and occasionally, we get high humidity coming in, bringing in more clouds. it still feels really hot, but now that starts to move out going into the afternoon and starts to feel more comfortable but temperatures don't come down much more as we come down into the weekend. valley temperatures are still in the low 90s. we do see some upper 80s for the start of next week. with san francisco, once again with the return of the fog, it will feel like the nice weekend will feel great in the low 70s. pride parade will be nice and we'll see some fog going on. next week, we are looking at the upper 60s and low 70s in the city. vianey, you have been keeping an eye on the commute, anything going on? >> we do have a couple of low spots in the tri valley t through the altamonte pass where you see that arrow on the

pittsburg started because of fireworks. >> fireworks are illegal in contra costa county. behind us clearly demonstrates the danger that it can pose to you, your neighbors, friends, family, this community. >> the county is familiar with these kind of fire. in 2018, an antioch man was maimed while trying to handle what he thought was a safe fire work. neighbors in the peninsula are on high alert after a mountain lion was spotted. the big cat was seen near turnswood drive and edgewood road just a couple of blocks north of sequoia hospital. it happened noon time yesterday. officers are reminding everyone to keep an eye on small children and pets and make sure that everybody is inside. this sunday, pride returns in person in san francisco and

a landmark in the bay area, lgbtq history, just turned 100. the castro theater celebrating that milestone yesterday. the celebration took place featuring movies. >> this was a great deal of courage and foresight on my grandparents. this has been a really important feature in the community. aisle glad that it's here and still operated by the community. >> this was named a san francisco historic landmark in 1976. >> can you imagine the castro without it? >> coming up today in the bay, micro plastics are filling our oceans and harming our climates but there are a few things that we can do to cut down on the

life in danger. there are some simple things that you can do to make sure that products we are using are eco friendly and bio degradable. >> reporter: there is a good chance you may have one of these or even multiple. i keep one in my gym bag, at home, maybe at work. what happens when you lose them or it's time 0 replace them? can you recycle these? >> here is the problem. most of us may not even have thought of recycling a hair brush. is it even possible? depends on the material they're made off and that's the tough part. many times, they are a mix of things like plastics, bristles and glue. that can be sorted out. it's not accepted at the recycling center which means they get tossed out in the landfill which can take thousands of years to break apart, leaving behind, harmful
