just south of us in hollister. firefighters across the region are on high alert. lightning and southern california turd deadly yesterday. a woman and two dogs were killed and it happened here the riverbed in pico rivera south of los angeles. we are carefully tracking the conditions. gary, still dry conditions out there in the lightning possibility shaking things up for us. >> when you have such dry vegetation a lightning strike can smolder for a couple of days and then can start to ignite into a new wildfire. so we have that concern and we have to watch even past the lightning threat over the next few days we are seeing thunderstorms south of the i-5 corridor just south of that area and we've seen some lightning over the sierra foothills moving into the central valley in the last hour there were 19 lightning strikes

around 10:00 the agent heard the shot at the train where police were at the station and they encountered two victims. one person killed by a bullet in the other believed to be a bystander suffering from non- life-threatening injuries and that shooter ran off the train. pride was taking place across the city and police do not believe this is a hate crime but rather an isolated incident. >> i want to share with the community that this incident does not appear to have any connection to target any communities. >> here is that picture of the person of interest. anyone with information is urged to contact police. as for the victim we are learning the name of the 27- year-old and the second victim,

>> yes. that is right, marcus and chris. good morning to you. the committee is expected to focus on looking at former president trump's threat to oust jeffrey rosen as a search for someone willing to investigate his bogus claims of election fraud. reformer justice department officials including rosen are expected to testify before the committee but after today the committee will postpone hearings until next month. he says the committee continues to receive additional evidence relative to the investigation and needs time to come through the new findings he said they received hours of additional video of former president trump from documentary to maker alex holder plus the committee and talks to her of jamie thomas wife of clarence thomas, justice. the next hearing will be held in july. >> chris malone in washington and thank you.

and comfortable and what about the rest of the folks around the bay area? >> there will be a wide range in temperature as a result of the fog rolling over san francisco and it will keep it nice and comfortable there. highs this afternoon mid 70s and you compare that to what you will feel across the bay in oakland reaching 82 and 92 in gosling and 92 in san jose and 98 in fairfield while santa rosa reaches 90 degrees today. it's hot for the valleys but the comfortable weather continues for those coastal areas in the breezy wind picking up. not much of a difference on saturday but lower humidity and for some spots it will feel more comfortable. otherwise, temperatures are well above normal. well above normal even for this time of year. we will have a look at that lightning. we are looking at where we can find slightly lower gas prices. that's right.

the goal is to at least find spots under $6. let's take a look in san jose. you can fill up her $5.97 a gallon at the excel gas on north first street. in concord the prices at the arco on monument boulevard is for $5.99 a gallon and in fairfield at the bond fire station on walters road, prices are at $5.89 per gallon. i know it is pricey but some spots you can pick through. let's take a look at how your traffic is doing. i have a couple of sore spots. the good news is there is no major accidents to report. we've got flowing into the tri- valley. it stays slow from 205 to the 580 stretch into the altamont pass. this is just building a

happy thursday to you. it is 6:13 a.m. as you head out on the east bay we are preparing for a mild but muggy morning with mid 60s now and it will be a hot day but at least the humidity will be dropping and we get more sunshine. we have a wide range in temperatures with fog rolling into the coast and a look at all of our microclimates coming

up. it is during a slowdown from westbound toward the bridge and that's because the metering lights have been turned on so you want to head out now. no accidents on the bridge or the dunbar bridge and we will talk more about this coming up. wall street looks poised for a bit of a rally as we look at the future suggesting a jump at the open. the market started off in green yesterday but reversed course later in the day after federal reserve chairman said higher interest rates could lead to a recession. meanwhile, corporate america grappling with another round of layoffs. master class, offering celebrity taught classes is cutting its workforce by 20% citing the worsening economic department. j.p. morgan cutting jobs in its mortgage position and about half being shifted to other departments rising interest rates and slowing refinancing

lightning strike and picked up on i-5. more lightning in the sierra foothills moving toward the central valley were in the last hour we've seen 12 lightning strikes and there has been rain as well while the humidity stretches into the bay area. you can see the clouds giving us a beautiful sunrise as we wake up and head out in san jose and another hot day. the humidity will decrease. even though we are in the upper 80s and low 90s today it won't feel as hot as it has the past few days and this is well above normal as we head toward 96 degrees in livermore. 95 concord. santa rosa reaching 90 degrees and take a look at san francisco cooling down and in the mid-70s thanks to the fog rolling in. the fog keeps it cool over the weekend while the valley is dealing with sweltering heat reaching into the mid-90s and there's not much of a change on

saturday. outdoor activities are mostly warm in the valleys were comfortable for the interbay and coastline. here is what is going on. we have the monsoon which is the remnants of a tropical system that moves into the desert southwest. when you have high pressure in the perfect position it moves the moisture into the bay area in the shows water vapor imagery. where the screen is humid and moist verdis brown it is dry her gradually that what air and humidity is moving out as we go into today. that's why the sky is clearing and it will feel much more comfortable. unfortunately there is nothing that will help us cool off. we will continue to see highs in the low 90s through the weekend of san francisco has that saving grace of the fog keeping it in the low 70s there and it will be perfect for the pride celebrations this weekend. any problems now for the

commute? it's been pretty smooth. it has but it's building into contra costa county. if this is part of your morning commute you want to head out now. from pittsburgh to walnut creek you are looking at 32 minutes. meanwhile to walnut creek about 20 minutes but if you look at the color change thereto real- time they are showing slowing. southbound succeeded to walnut creek and doing okay and within 10 minutes and a quick look now and your overall view of the bay area we have some slowing into santa cruz and highway 17 pretty normal especially around 620 and we still have the slowing coming in from tracy along the altamont pass, along 580 you can see the red and the yellow through there. we don't have any main accidents to tell you about in the bridges are doing good and we have a little bit of slowing from westbound 80 to the bay

the smoke in the cloud appears to be the moment the train derailed. the cloud pops up and the train appears to come off the tracks. park says extreme heat was a factor. it is not clear when full service will resume. the hertz rental car company now offering a settlement for some customers who mistakenly ended up in handcuffs or had their rental cars repossessed our consumer team, first shadow this story back in april. a sunnyvale man complained even though they had the contract or return the rental car hertz reported the car stolen. some suit and will one east coast attorney says that more than 200 people got caught up in this and hurts is now offering to settle with 40 of them. in a statement, hertz said this is the first set of offers and is not exhaustive. we are moving to all the claims to injure each unique situation is reviewed and considered on its individual merits.

some lightning begotten in this area. >> crazy weather and from gilroy you can see all this lightning and the thunder storms nearby. a lot of it just do that south of our area lighting it up just because the skies were clear away from the thunderstorms and you can see it from a really far distance and we have seen those lightning strikes continue through the overnight hours with activity over i-5 just south of los panos and we seem activity over the sierra foothills and moving into the central valley. unless our 12 lightning strikes in that activity winding down but the humidity is still stretching into the bay area and we see the fog rolling in from the coast across the golden gate bridge in such a beautiful start to our morning but that will create a wide range of temperatures with coastal areas getting a cooldown with highs in the mid 70s and we are still in the mid to upper 90s for the inland

valleys. it will feel better because the humidity will not be as high. in watching this as we head into the weekend. we will talk about those events coming up in a few minutes. for the morning commute it seems like it's been fairly smooth. >> it really has, kari. aside from some slow spots, we do have delays around westbound 580 if you look at this map you can see driving to the altamont pass and i did check to see if there were accidents or anything like that. it could be billed about the morning commute and overnight construction causing the delays and we see some slowing a long north vasco road, along that stretch. you want to head out now. bridge drive times overalls looking good. i did notice some slowing a long westbound 580. remember i talked about that stretch. heading to the richmond bridge and it did go up to nine

minutes the lights are turned on at the bay bridge toll plaza and if you are traveling westbound 80 toward the bay bridge get ready for a 12 minute commute to their your peninsula drive times looking good from south on 1012 venice avenue to sfo and about 11 minutes is bay drive times now and a little bit of slowing a long westbound 82 highway four and the bay bridge about 20 minutes and more, northbound 80 both directions noticing a boost in traffic. you can notice a change in their. 20 minutes. westbound 580, 282 the bay bridge about 15 minutes. 6:33 a.m. and as early as today the u.s. supreme court could release its long-awaited ruling in the future of roe v. wade. the draft opinion by political suggested legalized abortion was in jeopardy nationwide. >> today, bob even in states like here in california reproductive rights are facing

an uncertain future with the back good morning to you marcus and chris it is estimated without those protections stemming from roe v. wade at the women in the u.s. could lose of right to an abortion and it could be immediate. planned parenthood here in california tell us they've already seen an increase in women who are coming from out of state or an abortion here in california because of last september's law in texas that limits that states right to an abortion. we know how the u.s. supreme court is leaning because the majority of justices are conservative and because of that leaked draft opinion and justice samuel alito indicates the court will strike down the president as it dates back nearly 50 years. roe v. wade detected the right to choose by protecting women from government restriction. if and when it is overturn a political state professor said it would be on a woman's right to choose coming from several

different directions. >> what we have been hearing most about is the things that have trigger bands that they have passed over the last 40 years that site in the event that roe v. wade is reversed our state is going to make abortion illegal and that goes into effect immediately. >> in addition to the trigger laws, some have been passed since 1973, some states have laws still on the groups criminalizing abortion and those could become operational again. congress could take action and even states like california which support abortion access could be subject to federal law people opposed to abortion rights believe abortion takes the life of an unborn child and therefore murder the u.s. supreme court did add four more day in which it could release opinions in this opinion does not come out today, it could come out tomorrow and later today vice president kamala harris meeting with state

get out. we checked with aaa and they predict a record 42 million americans will hit the road for the fourth of july holiday. beaches in pacific grove near monterey will be closed through saturday. this is in the wake of a shark attack that seriously injured swimmer there. new surveillance video showing people trying to assist the victim. friends identify as the rumor. they say he is awake and talking but no update on his condition the attack happened sunday morning near the waters near monterey bay aquarium. one husband and wife just happened to be celebrating their anniversary and they were among their first reaching out to the victim trying to get him to safety about 150 yards offshore. >> he was hemorrhaging a lot of blood. it was all around. i tried to pull him onto my board and i could see he had a

deep laceration in his left arm. spray they say the victim was bitten in his torso and liked. fortunately there was a doctor and nurse in short they were able to assist him until first responders arrived. it is not clear what kind of shark was involved. experts believe it may be a great white which often swims closer to the store sure this time of year. a live look from san jose as the sun comes up over the hillside. our photojournalist did say they saw some lightning in the distance this morning as well. it looks peaceful. jerry hall is tracking that and it has been a little while though. >> it was nice to see the beautiful sunrise that we get from the tropical moisture. as we head into the weekend humidity is dropping with a lot of events happening this

weekend where we can enjoy the sunshine. san francisco is a great place to cool up with pride festivities going on upper 60s tomorrow, 65 saturday and 70 degrees sunday where the parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and we have some fog but it will clear up and be a really nice day. if you are in the inland area is hot and the alameda county fair going on in pleasanton. if you can get there early in the day or late in the evening the middle of the afternoon is dangerous to be out there for several hours. highs in the low 90s and for the seer south lake tahoe highs in the upper 70s. just watching out for a chance of an isolated thunderstorms on saturday. sunday in the low 80s for highs. it will be warm in sonoma valley. reaching into the upper 80s hitting 90 degrees on sunday. those mornings will be nice and cool starting out at 60 degrees. how is the commute going now? 6:39 a.m.

i sat down with ussf infectious disease after to talk about the concerns. and we began talking about the likelihood of the w.h.o. declaring talks a public health emergency. >> what has been happening now is we have been seeing more and more cases and many of these cases do not have known contact. that means it is in the community and not being diagnosed. if you look in the uk they are diagnosing may be five times as many cases as the u.s. it reminds me of where we are in the covid pandemic when we were just seeing the tip of the iceberg. we have a pcr test and it's really trying to be deployed now. it's a little bit talk because i think it is hard to recognize
