another case of monkeypox. this time in the bay area and what health officials are telling residents to be on the lookout for it. today in the bay streaming on apple tv and online. >> good morning to you. it is friday. we want to say good morning to you all. i am marcus washington. we want to start with a look at the forecast. fire danger. >> we've been closely watching what has been happening in the hills just to the east of livermore with fire that's been burning their and we start out with temperatures this morning in the low 60s, weather conditions a lot more favorable now but pretty breezy. as we head through the day it's going to get hot once again. the heat continues around the bay area as we look at highs that reach as warm as 96 degrees in livermore.

80 degrees in fremont. we see nice air for parts of the interbay and coastline. upper 60s and lower 70s for a lot of those spots. oakland reaches 78 degrees. the upper 80s for much of the northbay, while san jose is still hot reaching 91 degrees. we are looking at a wide range of temperatures not only for today but throughout the weekend and i have a look at that in the forecast coming up in a few minutes. pushed to the limit. firefighters scrambling to contain several fires that broke out thursday across the bay area as temperatures toward. as you can see fires are burning in alameda, contra costa and solano county expect most of the fires are under control but fire crews on the scene at this one right here in livermore. this is called the tesla fire. our nbc sky ranger shot this yesterday. you can see the flames shoot through the dry brush and

grass. officials believe the starter when a car ran into a tree in the latest update came in around 10:00 p.m. it's as the fire has burned 300 acres and is 10% contained. >> in pleasanton, crews are battling the canyon fire and flames are moving quickly there. crews are working toward full containment. at the last update the fire burned 71 acres and was just 10% contained. some good news, a late last night, areas told to evacuate were given the green light to go home. >> we didn't have any notice really. like i said i saw the fire come over the ridge before we got a real evacuation. it hit us pretty quickly. >> all of our crews train like this for every day. even though we have to be more dynamic than we usually are you might be headed to one fire and get diverted to another one. >> one firefighter was hurt when a tree fell after a water drop operation the firefighter

was released from the hospital and is expected to be okay. only on nbc bay area sulfate fire crews sounding the alarm. they are worried about stepping in their ability to adequately respond to wildland fires. firefighters talk exclusively about that with nbc barry area. >> reporter: with the wicked fire season underway they worry about what might lie ahead. the calls are coming in several times a day. fire after fire. taxing the shrinking number of men and women that fight them. >> there is a huge concern of burnout. we have fire fighting, it's a stressful job. >> the san jose fire union sent a significant part of the threat is caused by overtime because of low staffing levels. >> we do need help. it takes a toll on the mind and on the body and we hate to see

suggested adjustment to maintain the effectiveness. they point to the opening of a new fire station in the planning for two more in the department has put in several previously sidelined engines back in service. >> we supported and we are glad the fire chief is working with us and how we are doing hiring. >> they hope the firefighters who show up to the next call are rested and ready to fight the fire, the heat and the fatigue. 4:36 a.m. and new developments on the rise in cases of monkeypox the first case of suspected monkeypox not supported in the south bay. it comes as bay area health leaders warn of thoughts by child during crowded events. they explained what you need to know and how to detect the emerging virus.

>> the first case in the south bay. >> the person preliminary tested positive for monkeypox virus. >> reporter: the nid person traveled internationally and tested positively. >> this person is in isolation. >> reporter: a potentially serious virus found in west and central africa. common symptoms include fever, eggs and any distinctive rash over the body the case and the sulfate was discovered by the clinical virology lab. this week they launched a diagnostic test and among the first academic medical centers in the country to provide them and in the video from stanford doctor's say the lab is getting ahead of any testing issues in case the number of cases increase. >> the bay area health officers issued a joint statement to raise awareness and summer travel and gatherings begin noting the virus spreads through prolonged skin to skin

the rest of the bay area is not so cool. >> is all clear and something cool happening in the sky. right before sunrise a five planet parade is what it's called, in alignment where you will see five planets in the sky. this is right before sunrise and you will be able to see mercury, venus and the moon and you can see mars, jupiter and saturn. of course, and make them larger and it won't look like that but they will look brighter and all lined up the next time in alignment in this order will happen will be august 2040 so mark your calendar let's get a look at what is going on you start out with the clear sky here and busy as we see people heading on 580. temperatures in the upper 60s right now. we see the temperature fall before sunrise and we heat up once again. it's headed for and reaching 96

in livermore. high of 84 degrees there and 71 in san francisco. los gatos 94 degrees. you can see the wide range in temperatures and that will continue throughout the weekend. our valleys stay hot in the coastal areas stay cool in the fog will be there. if you are moving from inland to the coastline to find cooler temperatures, bring a jacket. there is a possibility that fall linger and it is very chilly there. it stays hot as we go through the next several days. it is not until the end of next week where we see this large area of high-pressure moving out of the way and giving us some relief. i want to show you palo alto and they temperatures where we are well above normal with our highs in the next several days reaching the mid 80s. look at thursday, friday and next weekend if you like the

cooler weather. next weekend is when you want to make those plans to get outside. look at our temperatures reaching into the mid-90s today. 90s for the weekend. once again we see the cooldown underway by the end of next week. one san francisco stays nice and comfortable it's a busy weekend in the city with a lot of celebrations going on around pride. 70s today and upper 60s for the weekend. you may want to bring a jacket, especially for the early morning and late evening hours. now a live look at the san mateo bridge. it looks like it's going well i've only seen a couple of incidents with the traffic breaks around the construction zones and they are picking up the cones and cleaning up for the night and getting ready for the commute we will continue to see hopefully smooth commute throughout the morning drive times looking good. i will keep an eye on that as we head to the next several hours. chris and marcus.

in oakland the new bay area women's soccer team was officially introduced and they are called the oakland soul. i love that logo. >> they will begin their run in 2023. the oakland soul, as well as the men's oakland team, talking about the roots, teams that promote positive social change. >> this team is a sign of progress but there is still a lot of work ahead help level the playing field for women in sports. >> soccer lunge and brandi chastain has long challenged the importance inspiring and challenging the next generation of female athletes and that's why she want to bring up her women's team and anthony torres has more for us this morning. >> reporter: passing on her knowledge to the next generation. this week, dr. starr brandi chastain, is coaching her team at a tournament in seattle. the two-time olympic and world cup champion believes she has a
