the north bay, there is a lot of seismic activity on that geothermal area. so we do see a lot of shaking there buddy 4.2 was significant enough for our people to hear it across the north bay but look at how many other small quakes have happened after that with the red dots showing the more recent ones and the yellow showing the ones in the past 12 hours. that is very active and typical for us to feel some shaking. we will continue to monitor that. we will also be warming up in the inland valleys. for watching that and a cool down in the forecast. details are coming up. in the south bay we are looking at a typical build on one or one but not far from where that traffic is easing up we have a problem on his surface streets. an important stretch of jackson avenue south of the capitol expressway also known as san antonio street on the other side of jackson avenue, a deadly crash is reported as a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

claimed the car was not covered by insurance and he received money as compensation from the other person involved in the crash. they also say he impersonated a police sergeant on his insurance application. he faces charges including grand theft and insurance fraud . jury deliberations continue this morning in the criminal fraud trial involving the second in command at theranos. former chief operating officer, sunny balwani, is facing charges similar to those of his former girlfriend , theranos founder elizabeth she was convicted in january. closing arguments in the balwani trial wrapped up last friday. just in time for the upcoming fourth of july holiday weekend, fireworks go on sale today and the cities that allow them. >> bob redell joins us from dublin with a warning from fighters. i'm always surprised they are still allowed to sell these. >> reporter: good morning. that morning from firefighters

is safe and sane, even though they are legal, they can still cause wildfire so they want you to be careful about where you set these off. starting today, fireworks stands like this one in dublin will open up. also in pacifica, tracy, which is the central valley over the altimont him of the city of san bruno and suisun city. those are five cities that will start selling safe and sane today through the fourth of july. just because your city sells safe and sane does not mean you have free reign to set them up anywhere you want. check with your city first. you may recall this 120 acre brush fire in pittsburg from a couple weeks ago where fireworks of any type are illegal. confire said that was started with illegal fireworks. several hundred people were evacuated as the fire came close to their homes. fortunately no one was hurt and there was no damage to property. all fireworks are illegal in contra costa county including the safe and sane. confire said even the safe and

sanes can lead to wildfires. something to think about where these are allowed. last year coco county strengthen the penalty for using biros including new roles that will hold property owners liable for violations in the city of brentwood, in contra costa county, possession of fireworks can lead to a felony charge, jail time, and finds up to $5000. brentwood pd said it will be taking a zero tolerance stance if anyone is caught with fireworks in their city this fourth of july holiday. by the way, check with your local city wherever you live but there are a number of cities throughout the bay area that will host some sort of fireworks celebration this weekend. bob redell, today in the bay. >> a much safer way to view the fireworks. first we need to tell you about bad news for your thrill seekers. great america in santa clara will be closing, but better

and san francisco. meteorologist kari hall has been monitored what we can expect from the forecast. fog and cooler temperatures in the city but elsewhere will be high temperatures. >> still hot for inland valleys but that's our microclimate in full effect. we see cool coastal temperatures and hot valleys as we see the fog over the city with the sunrise and the temperature at 55 degrees. also breezy at 18 miles per hour . here we are only heading for the upper 60s by the high today. across the bay and oakland we see a high of 78 and then 87 in napa while fairfield is still hot reaching 96 degrees. there will be some relief coming our way for the holiday weekend. i will have more on that coming up in a few minutes . mike has been tracking a serious issue in the south bay. >> talking about a deadly crash involving a pedestrian in san jose. it does have a street closure. jackson avenue. an important stretch of it south of what most folks would call it east capitol expressway.

half moon bay at 69. then across the bay to oakland and we are at 78. really nice. 85 in dublin but still hot and concord reaching 92 and 95 in san martin. in to tomorrow is when we start to see those inland areas just a little bit cooler and we are making progress toward some cooler temperatures heading into the holler -- holiday weekend but it will be windy on thursday. take a look at highs around the bay area. napa, 77. 75 in dublin. san jose, 78. that will be a little cooler than we typically see for the end of june into july. high pressure will finally move away and we see a load dipping down the coast and that will create some rising air and a counterclockwise wind flow so that pushes a lot of that cool ocean air further inland but once again it's also going to be breezy. as we look at brentwood and our 10 day temperature trend we are hot today and tomorrow but then thursday it's in the mid-80s. we are in the low 80s on saturday and, yeah, maybe even too cool for the pool this weekend as we are spending a

antonio. 50 people were found dead inside a semitruck believed to have been a botched attempt to smuggle migrants from south of the border. today in the bay's morgan chesky is following the investigation from the scene. >> reporter: authorities are calling this the worst mass casualty event in this area in recent history and we were on the remote road where this tractor-trailer was discovered late yesterday. someone nearby heard cries for help coming inside the trailer. upon the doors being opened up, they discovered the unthinkable. men and women who perished due to heat stroke or heat exhaustion and nearly triple digit temperatures and 16 survivors are now in area hospitals including four pediatric patients. authorities confirmed they detained three people as potential suspects and that is as of right now they are not saying if they are directly tied to this smuggling plot.

without an i.d. or prescription. governor gavin newsom transit no plans to run for president in 2024 but a new report out of florida have some believing otherwise. late last night, his campaign team confirmed plans to start running a series of cable tv ads in the sunshine state. those ads are expected to be released in california before they start airing july 4th. the campaign is not indicating what they are about but the news is a naturally fueling new speculation. newsom insists his focus remains exclusively on california. the possibility of a new round of covid booster shots. an advising committee meets today to talk about the possible rolling out of updated boosters for the fall. for that to happen, any potential decision would have to be approved within the next few days and a new booster would likely specifically

target the omicron variant, unlike the current booster shot. an unusual debate is happening today and supporters say it can save lives. santa clara county supervisors are weighing whether or not to stop narcan in schools, bars, and restaurants. the drug can instantly reverse effects from opioid overdose. the supervisor wanted to be widely available. right now in santa clara county, first responders carry it do some nonprofit groups. if approved, it would set aside funding to make it available and add new funding that no prevention in schools. a brush fire turned deadly. this morning, we are learning one person died in the fire in sonoma county. it is unclear what happened, but the victim was reportedly in a construction vehicle on private property. the fire broke out around 2:00 yesterday afternoon and burn 63 acres. investigators are looking at

the cause of the fire . no word about what caused a smoky fire along 101 yesterday. this started in the landfill and it briefly closed all lanes of traffic. here is a time-lapse video of when the fire started. it burned 113 acres but firefighters make quick progress on this throughout the night. it is under control and was done before 8:00 p.m. crews are still there this morning keeping an eye on possible hot spots. the warm weather keeping first responders on their toes. >> but the warm weather is expected to taper off with cooler conditions. this is transporting higher humidity and eventually will bring in cooler air for a lot of spots. patchy fog in nevada right now. temperature 51 degrees. then it will warm up and it

everyone is focused on this 5- year-old. let's get started on this tuesday morning. it is already busy out there and we will have another warm day for a lot of our inland valleys while the bay will have a nice comfortable afternoon. we have seen the fog rolling in and that will keep a lot of the coastal and interbay areas milder. we are headed for the low 70s going into the afternoon. take a look at the range in temperatures. upper 60s near the coast and upper 70s across the bay. reaching 85 degrees in dublin and 96 in fairfield. also hot in the south county as we hit the 90s once again. tomorrow, we come out of the 90s for many areas to the upper 80s in the south bay in fairfield and a high of 88
