thanks so much for joining us on this thursday morning. i am kris sanchez in for laura garcia. >> i am marcus washington. we are working on the commute and keeping the phone down. here is a look at the forecast and what music will we play for the forecast today? >> it is another foggy day and the song is on repeat, playing over and over again. rolling across san francisco once again with temperatures into the upper 50s. cool air to start the morning and we start to see the sun peeking out into the late morning. the high reaching up to 66 degrees with a high of 71 in oakland with upper 70s in livermore. at fairfield heading up to 85 degrees. we will still have warm air for some of the inland valleys but it will get even hotter for

the bullet cut through the windshield. the pieces of glass hit the face of the woman. the dashcam was rolling the whole time. we spoke with a couple still trying to process what happened . this is cheryl hurd. >> reporter: it was supposed to be a normal drive on eastbound 580 when suddenly this happened. >> honey, are you okay? they just shot through our window. >> reporter: all caught on the dashcam inside of their car. >> 10 seconds onto the freeway where the first vehicle's passenger got outside of his window and fired back at the other vehicle. the bullet had entered roughly around here. >> reporter: derek mason explaining to us exactly what happened when the bullet nearly missed that head of his fiancie when driving from oakland to pleasanton. at grand avenue they saw two

cars driving erratically around the before the shooting. tino quickly realizing it was a close call. >> i broke down at least a minute after that time because i saw the bullet hole in the windshield and how it kind of went past me. >> reporter: that was three weeks ago but she cannot bring herself to look at the video. >> just knowing that my friends and family are out here. we did not do anything wrong to deserve this. >> reporter: we reached out to the chp and they say they are investigating the shooting. >> you hear horror stories. we thought we aborted one by not looking but 15 seconds later we got involved. >> reporter: this experience reminds them of multiple tragedies were adults and a toddler were killed on the bay area freeways. this time they were lucky. >> it's really sad and it can happen to anybody. we have no power in it at all.

>> reporter: cheryl hurd, today in the bay. fire crews making significant progress on this fire, and some evacuation orders have been lifted and amador county and calaveras county. burning 4100 acres and containment jumping to 40% at last check. the amador county sheriff said the fire started along the river where people were celebrating the fourth of july and said that the location suggest it could've been sparked by fireworks or perhaps a barbecue. covid case rates in hospitalizations in the bay area are on the rise amid the growing helmet on how much good the current vaccines are doing for us. the path forward is getting a bit murky. we are looking for clarity from the local health experts. today we are tracking the latest developments. >> reporter: san mateo joined the list and now every county in the bay area back in the cdc

high risk category for covid-19 community levels. this map shows the areas of the country in the category. local health leaders forecasted rates dropping by now a few weeks ago. they would have according to the epidemiologist had the new variants not arrived on the scene. >> if everything hold steady in dealing with the same variants, i think we could see some drop off maybe later this month or early next month. but it will not drop back down to zero. it will come down a little bit before we have to figure out what will happen in the fall. >> reporter: current vaccines are less affected against the covid variants, and we asked if those available should wait to the fall to get the shot. essentially the answer is no. here is what the san francisco public health department tells us when changes are high we can expect an increase in hospitalizations like we are currently seeing. national and state data shows that while vaccines may not

flights mistakenly dropped to due to the computer glitch. the pilot union said the error allowed pilots to drop thousands of future trips from their schedule leaving over 12,000 flights in july without a captain, first officer or both. american airlines said they were adding most of the trips back and that it would not impact passengers' flights. a similar thing happening 2017 allowing pilots to take vacation during the december holidays. apple working on a smart watch geared toward extreme sports. stronger metal instead of an aluminum case and includes a larger battery than the standard apple watches. this will let athletes track the work out for the longer period of time. extreme apple watch is expected to be unveiled later this year along with two other models. do you guys track your fitness levels in your sleep? >> not in my sleep. in the sleep it just sits there.

we have an earlier crash and you can see the green sensors. in the north bay i reported a crash eastbound 80 away from the bridge up toward solano. the exit off-ramp could be affected by the crash. the off-ramp reopened by the affected crash but they are still activity in the chp report. it sounds like everything is off the shoulder that we will track that to let you know if there is a problem. the closure at highway 84 with that winding section where they do the overnight maintenance. that will be clear by 5:00 a.m. down to the south bay at north 101 we have this section with the arrow showing the early drive slowing about 5:40. you have an hour to get through that area. we start out with cloudy skies again this morning as we take a live look outside at san jose. we are waking up to clouds and we will see it linger through about 7:00 to 8:00.

we will see mostly sunny skies for the rest of the day as our temperatures ahead for the upper 70s once again. a really nice day for an outdoor hike or whatever you have to do outside. we are going to see nice, mild temperatures for today. only reaching about 75 degrees downtown with dublin heading to 75, fairfield warming up to 85 degrees today. we are looking at hotter temperatures and in some of the inland valleys where fairfield tomorrow will reach 92 degrees. 87 in morgan hill and 89 in siena rose up. you can see temperatures going up but the coastal area still nice and mild with oakland reaching nice and mild 75 saturday compared to upper 70s in dublin. and napa over the next 10 days really heating up sunday into monday. after that we see it coming back down to seasonable temperatures but still pretty

warm through much of next week. in the term temperatures warming up heading into the low 80s today. mid-80s as well for tomorrow and saturday before going into the rest of the weekend where we will see highs reaching into the 90s for san francisco. expect steady temperatures with upper 60s over the next few days. we will have more clouds and fog. turning to today's climate in crisis, people looking for places to cool off as those temperatures warm up. also just enjoy the summer but there could be something lurking in the water making it dangerous to swim in the local water and base. these algae blooms not only smell disgusting that can make you or your pets sick if you come into contact with it. toxins can become airborne and cause respiratory problems. that is as well as the artificial fertilizers, and will wait, causing an excess of
