with numbers dropping below 50 as we measure how much of that particulate matter is in the air . and we will see worsening air quality around south lake tahoe and much of the sierra. as far as where the smoke is blowing, mostly to the north and east as we see a slight shift in the wind. the area around the washburn fire, crews are dealing with hot temperatures and low humidity but the wind has been fairly light. today we see temperatures heading back into the 90s today with some very dry air. we are watching a slight cooldown for the bait area and will talk about that in a few minutes. breaking news just in from the defense department. sources at u.s. central command tell nbc news the leader of isis in syria has been killed in a u.s. air strike this is considered one of the top four isis leaders. the strike targeted his deputy but is not clear whether the

that we certainly don't want to see families having to go to multiple site. driving to multiple stores only to find one brand that maybe isn't the brand that wic will allow. maximum flexibility is what we are hoping for from regulators to allow families to be able to grab that formula when they happen to see it . >> a question for you. as people find that formula and they are searching high and low and finding sometimes the formula that is different from what their children are use to. are you getting questions about that? you have a problem with that? >> we are absolutely getting a lot of questions about that. people are understandably concerned about changing brands . and the good news is that our pediatricians are telling us that most babies really can tolerate a change in formula and it is fine to go ahead and use a different brand if they can find it. >> i did speak with the ceo of first 5 san jose about more

the strong dollar has a huge effect on the profits of american companies and export but that's because other people's money, the euro yen, pso and canadian dollar are weaker than they used to be compared to our money and it takes more of them to buy american products so this could affect our gdp. a strong dollar and that sense is a bad thing. the reverse is true. our dollar goes further in the parisian store or to buy all foreign goods. starbucks closing a small number of stores for safety. where employees reported customers doing drugs in the store and that kind of thing and it's giving stores everywhere more power to close bathrooms and take other safety precaution. electric truck may caribbean is cutting jobs. bloomberg citing unnamed sources says the companies will cut 5% of its workforce. the company has more than a dozen job openings posted for its palo alto labs. twitter has sent a letter to elon musk thing it plans to force musk to stick to the agreement and by twitter and it

part of your morning. >> laura garcia has a morning off. we want to talk about the developments now in the firefight making it sideway. this is on the wildfire in yosemite. containment as of last night is at 25%. there were mild conditions yesterday including almost no wind. the fire is no longer an immediate threat to the growth, home of some of the oldest sequoias. they want to make more headway. >> i am tracking air quality. it sounds like there is a change in the wind coming. is it going to help. >> it's going to give us air quality that is better than yesterday. we are seeing some numbers that are green for today that means it is below the measure of particulate matter that is unhealthy. better air quality for us and a lot of the smoke is drifting
6:32 am
over the sierra. that shows the smoke is drifting over tahoe and the sierra this morning and off toward the north and east. as we take a live look at yosemite and the hazy conditions, temperatures today start out in the low 70s and heat up to the mid-90s by early in the afternoon. that is some of the conditions that fire crews are dealing with. mike, you have a crash in san jose? >> yes. this is west of 237. her crashes reported in the middle two lanes. no injuries. the bad news is it is still in the middle of the freeway coming off the connector toward the south bay. that is the only issue for the south bay. this cleared up nicely but the second slowing in progress. we see a little bit of a build. the crashes across livermore and we got to the shore with no
6:33 am
major issues. there is a buildup at the bay bridge. okay. we have breaking news. police are responding to a in emergency room in santa clara. the public is being asked to not show up at kaiser santa clara hospital right now and stay clear of the area. what we know is that the sheriff's office tells us this is not an active shooter situation. there appears to be some sort of standoff at this point. we are on the seam and asking questions about that. if you have business at kaiser, wait before you show up. there is a police situation unfolding. >> also today a new call for an urgent response to the monkeypox outbreak. this is as the rate of infection grows. today we are live in san francisco. some say there is less of a sense of urgency because it is
6:34 am
not affecting the entire community. >> reporter: that is right. there are people speaking up for those at risk communities and they are saying more needs to be done. california has one of the highest monkeypox infection totals in the country. according to the centers for disease control and prevention currently the state has 146 cases. california is second to new york that has 156 cases and there are 500 confirmed cases in the country. later today the san francisco supervisor and community leaders are calling on the centers for disease control and prevention and the state health department to lead a aggressive vaccination campaign. so far this has affected and bisexual men. last week they called the response a public health failure for not ordering enough vaccines for what they say is a
6:35 am
foreseeable outbreak. monkeypox is different from other diseases, even covid. it has a low mortality rate. there are tools available to prevent infection and there are safe and effective therapies to treat even severe divisions. >> there is a sense of urgency in the general population but it is different altogether and i do think there is work that needs to be done before we get control of it. >> and it is worth mentioning that the learning center is giving out monkeypox vaccines you must be a close contact then you have to schedule an appointment. more than 600 have been vaccinated due to close contact. there are also other things we are keeping an eye on. the world health organization
6:36 am
is addressing monkeypox and global health concerns. that is underway and we will be monitoring that as well as the town hall happening later today that will be hosted by the aids foundation and that is also addressing issues surrounding monkeypox. a lot is going on today. >> we know you will be watching it. thank you so much. we are diving deeper into a home crisis as many struggle to pay. the cost of a home is rebounding . in other parts of the bay area real estate prices are struggling to recover. i spoke with geoff tucker. we talked about more. take a listen. >> san francisco is extraordinary for a few reason, the most expensive major metro area in the company and it has a dynamic that it was the best example we saw in any city of what some people have called the doughnut effect.
6:37 am
it is the center of the city having week housing demand and falling or flatlining prices. that extends to some neighborhoods in san francisco led by the tenderloin where prices are actually down a little bit. in his because san francisco is the epicenter of remote work and tech employers led people away and it was very expensive to be close to the downtown offices. a lot of people got a chance to work remotely and they moved further out and maybe never moved to the bay area in the first place. that is why central san francisco is unique for home prices not skyrocketing and in a couple of cases are flat or down a little bit. >> you were saying that people were working remotely. we saw people leaving the city
6:38 am
and going into suburban areas. housing demands remain high and the inventory is low. we could see a slight change. talk to me about that. >> yes. this is an absolute inflection point that the market is going through and maybe it has already gone through just in the last couple of months where demand is pulling back and there are high prices and high interest rates on mortgages. higher than we had even six months ago. the mortgage payment on a home in the bay area is over $8000. that is off the charts and extraordinary. a lot of people can't afford to pay that. they are pulling back. one change that we are seeing is mentor meetings being low. that is competitive pricing between sellers and that is leading to price cuts which
6:39 am
could -- we are seeing early evidence of prices beginning to decline a little bit month over month especially around san jose. that is the epicenter of the most expensive homes. >> are we seeing more condos being built? are these single-family homes? this inventory increase is kind of across the board. all these market segments are being affected. home sellers that are out there are -- they can't count on getting an offer over list price in a single week anymore. the time to sell their home is taking longer. that means when the next crop of homes comes on the market one week later they will be priced to sell. they want to outcompete some of the homes stuck on the market. >> okay. the housing crisis is called
6:40 am
overpriced, overwhelmed over it. you can stream that. you can also watch that on roku and apple tv. we are staying on top of breaking news out of santa clara. we know police are responding to the kaiser hospital in santa clara. there appears to be some sort of situation unfolding in the emergency room. the map on your screen, if you are familiar with that is at homestead road. this is called significant police activity and they are asking the public to avoid the hospital at this time. police are also reassuring as this is not an active shooter situation however, it appears to be some sort of police development in the emergency room. we have been in contact with the police who are responding.
6:41 am
bob will be there in a few minutes and have an update before the end of this newscast. if you have an appointment at kaiser, santa clara, don't show up just yet. there is police activity happening in the emergency room. okay. this is a live look at downtown as the sun starts to come up. it looks like it could be a hot day. >> yes we will see warmer temperatures in the inland areas. along the coast it is foggy and san jose will have a slight cooldown and temperatures for this afternoon reaching into the 80s by 2:00 to 4:00 and we start in the low 60s. a high of 82 in dublin and 78 in martinez. oakland is reaching 78 degrees but low 80s for much of the north bank of san francisco where we see highs in the 60s.
6:42 am
we are seeing a wide range and temperatures and more changes as we get closer to the weekend. we will take a look at that coming up in just a few minutes and mike, you start with the crash in san jose. >> yes. in the middle of the roadway. it has now cleared. we should see quick recovery. a lot more traffic is coming in over the fly over to west 237 and the buildup from 187 is the predicted route for the morning commute. we just talked about this again, the police activity over at kaiser permanente, santa clara. there is apple park. here's homestead and lawrence. avoid this campus. there is law enforcement activity that we are following in the newsroom. lawrence expressway is open. again, that is the area to avoid, the kaiser campus. there will be delays tonight. look at this construction. one lane in either direction.

6:47 am
breaking news. this is the location of kaiser permanente santa clara along the lords expressway and homestead road. static where police are responding to some sort of situation unfolding in the newsroom. this is the first image from the scene across the street. you can see police activity there. police say this is significant police activity but they are saying it does not involve an active shooter at this point. police are asking the public to stay away from the area. if you have business at the hospital, delay it. police are not going to let you in. they assure us that this is not an active shooter situation. >> joining is now on the phone is margaret. margaret, i understand you were trying to get into the hospital. you are not allowed access? >> i was inside the hospital.
6:48 am
i have an appointment in radiology so i got to leave here at about 6:30. the radiology department is right next to the emergency room. apparently something happened there. it was difficult to park because there are so many police cars out there. they do have an police line tape for the emergency room entrance. to the right you can enter the hospital to get to radiology. however, in the reception area they are not allowing anybody to go to appointments. they told me that something started at 5:00 this morning. they are not saying what it is. it -- i can easily access my appointment but they won't let me go down that hallway because it is toward the emergency room and i asked them if we should wait around and they said we don't know how long it will be. more than likely you should reschedule. there are several of us waiting there. i came out to stu speak with
