eastern contra costa county and an air-quality advisory has been extended from that six week old fire smoldering and is expected to impact pittsburg, antioch, oakley , and brentwood. let's get a look at current weather conditions. i was looking at the air-quality sensors around the pittsburg area. very unhealthy this morning. and when we have bad air- quality, you are advised to close the windows and turn on the air conditioning are run some type of filtration system to filter out some of that unhealthy air. as we start, temperatures in the low 60s but we are warming today and that area reaching into the mid-80s with concord heading to 88. we will see and linda valles warmer compared to yesterday. i will be watching this and we will talk more about the weekend forecast in a bit. right now monkeypox continues to spread across the state and in the bay area.

testing and vaccinations are ramping up. kris sanchez joins us from one of the testing options that are out there. >> reporter: good morning. by now we've gotten used to those swabs and the pcr test and if you want to be tested for monkeypox, quest diagnostics will handle those for you they are expanding testing capacity. they expect to be able to handle about 60,000 tests a week by the end of july. lab workers will swap patients and send samples to a lab in l.a. here's where things stand in california. as of this week there were 186 droppable cases of monkeypox. while it's not as contagious as covid or as transmissible, it is spread through intimate contact like sex or taking care of someone who has those active lesions or rash which i hear is quite painful.

a former san quentin prisoner is facing deportation and is asking the governor for a pardon. phoeun you's family fled genocide in cambodia when he was one year old and when he was 20 he shot and killed a teenager and a gang retaliation shooting. now at 47 he says he has changed and even became a journalist for the san quentin news and got his aa degree and became a counselor and mentor and was recommended for early release by a parole board but advocates say he was picked up by i.c.e. agents. we spoke with him by phone from an i.c.e. facility. >> all i'm thinking about is, well, this is real. i'm not going to get to say goodbye to family. i'm not going to have a chance to get back to my community. i'm not going to get to say goodbye to my parents in person. >> pardon advocates say they

would block his deportation. we reached out to the governor's office for information and we were told information regarding pardon applications is confidential and were not able to discuss individual cases. smoke is covering the skies over yosemite. this is time-lapse video of the fire at the national park. crews battling the flames and making up ground they lost. the washburn fire is 22% contained. flames has spread into the nearby sierra national forest were 4200 acres have burned since the fire broke out. i know that kari has been watching the air quality carefully. we will check in with her. >> 4200 acres is so much of yosemite that has burned. today we are heading into another hot day. take advantage of cooler temperatures and higher humidity to try to get more containment of the fire but look at how dry and hot it will be once again later today, reaching into the

microclimates in the forecast coming up . let's take a look outside and the traffic. a smooth drive across the bay. you can kind of make out the lights. not a big deal. good morning, everyone. i'm contessa brewer. wall street will open much lower today. the dow jones and s&p futures are off by a percent and a half and we know some of this is driven by disappointing earnings reports from morgan stanley and jp morgan chase. chase declined by more than 3% and early trade. the market slipped yesterday. the dow fell 100 points after consumer prices rose in june at the hottest annual pace since 1981. we saw that rise more than 9% and that sparks worries that federal reserve will act more aggressively to get control of inflation. the fed's next meeting is in

two weeks. today we focus on jobless claims reports and producer prices and those big bank earnings, we will watch how stocks react to that today. doordash will raise the bar on minimum orders for its subscription service, dash pass. a spokesperson said it will affect convenience, drugstore and liquor store orders. right now dash past subscribers paid $9.99 a month for free delivery and lower service fees. currently they need to order at least $12 of food or $35 in groceries. techcrunch reports that starting august 12th come a minimum orders may increase and very high store or city, and by time of day. and netflix has chosen microsoft to deliver ads for a cheaper version of its streaming service expected to

the horizon. we will watch for that. as we are heading out this morning and making plans for the day, it starts out in the low 60s and we had for the upper 70s today with a mostly sunny sky eventually reaching 79 degrees in san jose. this is about the same as yesterday. it will feel slightly warmer concord will reach 88. 92 in fairfield. san francisco will not change much as we start with clouds and fog. that will be the case tomorrow. much of the inner be feeling highs in the 70s with hayward reaching 73 and upper 80s in the tri-valley. it will be hotter on saturday if you have plans this weekend. make sure that you take those breaks if you'll be outside in morgan hill as it heads for 93 degrees and we see a height of 93 in santa rosa. the big headlines have been the record-breaking heat. the power strain on the brake because of the texas heat is

not going anywhere as this large area of high pressure continues to keep it hot. some of that hot air making it into inland valleys as we look at santa rosa, we had for the low 90s this weekend. saturday will be the warmer of the two days. it does get slightly milder next week with mid 80s but overall we're in this pattern with temperatures going up slightly and down slightly. it depends on how strong the ocean breeze is because san francisco keeps it steady for us with highs in the upper 60s . mike you are looking at that crash in alamo? >> even though traffic is light south toward alamo just before livorno, we do have a slow lane block. a tanker truck of some sort, i don't know what it is carrying, they are on the scene, chp, blocking the slow lane. volume will start to build out of concord for south 680. meanwhile we still see that and behind me over here on west five eddie out of tracy there could be a crash working its

as you mentioned, 9.1% of the overall inflation number from the department of labor the food you buy at the store is up 12.2%. that is the biggest annual increase since 1979. take a look at your tv screen. the bureau of labor statistics found the price of butter and margarine is up 26% over the past 12 months pick cereals and bakery products are up almost 14%. fruits and vegetables up over 8% while meat, poultry and fish is up year-over-year that could a great did see is light drop over the past month, down less than half a percentage point over the past 30 days but still upper over the past 12 month and prices could continue to rise. the usda economic research service has predicted grocery store prices will go up 8.5% to 9.5% this year. that would be more than double

look at how inflation is specifically impacting the bay area. ahead to nbcbayarea.com. the link to that story is on our front page. nearly 5 years after the wine country firestorm, nbc bay area has obtained a review of the disaster that planes pg&e failed fire strategy for putting that entire region at risk. critics say the findings make a strong case that pg&e executives let corporate bonuses , not safety, guide their decision. the northbay firestorm tore through a quarter million acres and destroyed hundreds of homes and left 44 people dead. a 500-page report lays the blame for nearly all of them at the feet of pg&e. the analysis commissioned by the public utilities commission concludes pg&e failed to flag any of the high risk powerline that sparked 16 different

buyers and also states pg&e prioritized keeping the power on in urban areas at the expense of fortifying powerline in rural areas where wildfires are at a higher risk. one result was that pg&e executives earned bonuses for reducing the number of homes that lost power. >> they knew that wildfires killed people and yet they chose not to protect those people, but instead to keep the power on for customers in urban and suburban counties, areas so that those people wouldn't complain that their power was shut off and the popsicles in their freezers were melting. they make pg&e did not respond directly to the findings but says it's made prudent

improvements over the past five years like public power shutoffs and setting equipment to shut down automatically at the first sign of trouble. in a statement the utility told us that pg&e is committed to keeping our customers and hometowns save from catastrophic wildfires and we appreciate investors thorough review. now to a follow-up. all lanes of highway 101 yard rand avenue r back open this morning after a double-decker tour bus caught fire. chp said when officers arrived it was covered in flames. lanes were closed overnight as crews try to clean up. no passengers on board were injured. it's not clear why the bus caught fire. let's take you out to san jose. the sun is starting to come up. let's get a look at the weekend forecast. >> good morning. we are starting to make plans and i wanted to show you three key spots where people had for the weekend. napa will see temperatures cranking up on saturday. keep in mind it will be 93 on saturday and 90 on sunday. san francisco is where we keep that coal and natural air-

conditioning with highs in the upper 60s while san jose will see highs reaching 80 tomorrow and mid 80s for the weekend. if south lake tahoe is in your weekend plans, we will see you some of that smoke from the washburn fire going that way and temperatures heading for the upper 80s. we will see a mostly sunny sky and morning temperatures in the mid-50s. on the coastline, santa cruz will have mild weather tomorrow we see a high of about 80 degrees but it will get slightly cooler toward sunday with mid- 70s but pretty nice conditions there. where it will be hot this weekend is paso robles reaching the triple digits on friday and saturday and still pretty warm on sunday with upper 90s. and mike you were looking at that reduction of game day traffic today. >> yesterday we talked at a midday game. today we have a series and a start time at 6:45. six hours later than yesterday and that means traffic coming out of work will be affected by folks coming into the game.

here's a live look at fremont. a smooth flow of traffic. the headlights southbound on eight 80 without delay but there is a little build here and i'm tracking a crash in san jose. 5:42. this morning there is growing outrage after surveillance video from uvalde, texas. the school shooting was publicly leaked. some victim families are furious it wasn't shown to them first. >> reporter: good morning from uvalde where the fallout this morning continues on multiple fronts. family members and loved ones are still trying to process what they learned originally about the police response is not paired with a video bring that point home. even more emphatically we know at 11:37 offices try to get into the classroom and the prospect by gunfire but it took 40 minutes for them to approach the classroom again with the delivery of ballistic shields

do need to make sure you are saving water where you can. about 50% of your home water usage comes from landscaping and irrigation. use that smart timer and right now we do not recommend you water more than two days a week and it's after 7:00 p.m. artificial grass is a great option and also low water use plants as you think about ways to change out the irrigation, check the faucets that drip and other leaks around the home. and check to see if you have rebates available where you live. east bay m.u.d. has up to $2000 in rebates for changing out your water system and landscaping. as we take a look at fremont, you are heading to temperatures in the upper 50s. it's a cloudy start as we see our typical marine layer rolling by but it clears out and we see temperatures heading for the low 70s that much time with a high temperature of 77. it will be slightly hotter in fairfield reaching 92 and low

to mid 80s and much of the north bay but upper 80s in santa rosa. half moon bay in the mid 60s this afternoon and tomorrow it's more of the same but we will see those valley temperatures going up another degree or two and getting hotter on saturday as we reached the peak of the heat. the mild coastline will continue with temperatures in the 60s. san francisco will reach into the low 70s. record heat continues across the south and expanding across the west. that heat continues even into next week here's a look at our temperatures as we check out antioch. low 90s today and tomorrow. upper 90s on saturday and then we see it's coming back down by the middle to end of next week some of our inland temperatures are going up and down a degree or two. really no major changes here while san francisco will see highs in the upper six days. those king tides will be back tomorrow morning at 12:31 mike, you are looking at highway 101 with a crash. >> following the crash in san jose and the king tides affected 101 in the north be

exit for stinson beach. that was closed overnight because of the king tides and that may be the case again tonight. over here it's good but you do see 101 moving smoothly past the camera. the backup usually forms approaching 680 and that's what we see picked the crash on 101 at oakland road is off the road come off of 101 at oakland road on the dirt on the side. there may be more slowing as crews and of tow truck arrived on the scene but the speeds are good approaching oakland road. it's the build from story past 680 and past our camera and easing up. north of 880 and the airport, sjc, everything is clear on 101 as you would expect. over here, slowing on south 880 through hayward the earlier crashes cleared. no problems on a street and no problems out of the altamont pass. relatively mild there there is a build for the tri-valley.

still tracking a crash up here. one lane blocked southbound at 680 passing the lavonna exit passing through alamo. still waiting for a tow truck. i think they're getting a larger truck because a tanker is on the slow lane picked walnut creek moving smoothly out of concord and off the venetia bridge you're basically at speed. the other issue was a crash near the altimont but eastbound on the counter commute. no major issues. happening now, went east bay city considering changing the limit on alcohol proceeds at restaurants to give restaurants a boost. right now and hayward restaurants have to limit alcohol sales to 40% of overall proceeds so 60% has to come from food. city councilmembers are looking to change the ratio to 50/50. the goal is to attract new restaurants in hayward. ideas for the change will be presented at the city council meeting in two weeks. home from the hospital and on the mend. still ahead on today in the bay
