upper 60s around the bag in the peninsula and we have some 70s through parts of the south bay. i will talk more about what to expect this weekend in the full forecast. this morning there is slight relief for those trying to make it in the bay. the average price of gas in california finally dropping below six dollars a gallon. bob redell joins us from dublin. prices should go down even further. >> reporter: according to one analyst, yes. good morning. as you can see at this station in dublin, the lowest grade of gas is finally below six dollars a gallon. barely come up but still in the five dollar range. here are the latest overnight numbers from aaa. san jose and oakland, both averaging around $5.96. san francisco right at six dollars a gallon. but look at the second number.

that is the price from a month ago and you can see in the past 30 days, gas has dropped $50 -- drw 50 to $0.60 per gallon. a petroleum analyst with gasbuddy.com predicts gas could fall another funeral at 55 to $0.85 in the weeks ahead. this is one of the reasons inflation has skyrocketed in the united states. 9.1%. we learned that this week. that's the highest in 40 years. >> what did he say is the biggest factor for inflation? >> reporter: i missed a little bit of what you were asking but i believe you are asking the cause for this? part of the reason for the drop in gas prices. the price of oil has gone down over fears of a global economic slowdown. you imagine if there is a slowdown, fewer people are buying and selling things you need less transportation.

less transportation is less need for oil and the price goes down. and also oil production has improved worldwide which has led to a greater supply and a decrease in the price per barrel. >> old supply and demand rears its head again. thank you. that's good news on gas prices. coming up, we are tracking cheaper, so to speak, local gas prices. that's coming up at 6:30 it. those prices remain a hot topic amid president biden stripped of the middle east but it's not his only focus. in addition, the president is pledging $100 million for hospitals serving patients from east jerusalem, the west bank, and gaza annually and is hoping to reshape our country's relationship with saudi arabia. brie jackson is live in washington. all eyes are on president biden as he's gearing up for this high-stakes and controversial meeting.

officials to boost oil production in an effort to help bring down gas prices at home. >> we are certainly looking for that to happen . concerns are growing over the future of same-sex marriage after the supreme court justice clarence thomas specifically listed same-sex marriage as the next possible target after voting to overturn roe v. wade. a pioneer for same-sex marriage rights is addressing that in san francisco. jim obergefell was the lead plaintiff in the supreme court case that made same-sex marriage legal back in 2015. last night he made a stop at manny's in san francisco as obergefell testified in front of the house judiciary committee. >> what do they want for this country? do they want us to go back in time to be stuck in time back in 1787 when the constitution was written? that is not in the best

interest of our nation. >> for this to be a return, a state would have to likely ban same-sex marriage and then that is appealed all the way to the supreme court. there are plans for that. in 2015 the case that made marriage legal, justices thomas, alito, and roberts dissented . now to a double loss for a moment visiting the bay area. her father passed away and that her father's dog was stolen during a carjacking. this happened thursday morning when boze went and her family came to the area. she lost her father and her father's beloved dog was taken. she said the group arrived at an emeryville hotel and someone tried to steal a piece of luggage and another person jumped behind the wheel of her truck and took off with their dog. >> he is six pounds. he does have anxiety and is always looking for his nana or his mom. blue is everything. he is our last connection to dad. >> police were able to track the truck down through peggy boze's apple watch but police are still searching for their

dog , blue. the boze family said they willing to pay a reward for the return of the dog. no questions asked. >> just awful . there is an air-quality alert that will be in effect for parts of the east bay for a fourth day and the row. it's that six-week-old buyer in pittsburg still smoldering. our skyranger helicopter flew over this marsh yesterday. crews say it's mostly peat burning. that is oil filled with decomposing materials and it burns well. it's tougher firefighters to put out because it can smolder on the ground. firefighters are proposing flooding the marshland but they have to get approval from local and federal agencies and that takes time. sick 109. let's take a live look outside with the sun coming up. vianey is in this morning and tracking the forecast with a warm-up on the way. >> and we have been talking about air quality concerns. it's been a factor with those

active wildfires burning including a fire in yosemite, the washburn fire. there is an air-quality advisory in effect but as of right now the aqi is showing good air-quality from the north bay through the south bay. anytime we see the wind changed direction, that can change into the afternoon, especially for east bay areas in contra costa which is whether as an advisory. if you see or smell smoke coming keep your windows closed and take breaks if you will be outdoors, and drink a lot of water because temperatures will be warm through livermore and tracy. 80 and 87. it will only get hotter heading into saturday. potential triple digits. now let's get a check of the roads. >> the roads are doing pretty well. not to jinx things but am looking forward to the evening because the giants are playing tonight. we will predict traffic a little later than last night and a little heavier because opposed getting to enter the city. this is the 280 extension by oracle park. crowds building

around 5:00 with local street closures kicking in. there's a small incident on 280 by 380. not a major problem. the bigger issue is sunday morning. 1:00 a.m. through 6:00 a.m. some folks may be leaving home from there saturday night. there is a full closure of south 101 heading down toward the airport in south san francisco. keep that in mind. does a local reroute a parallel streets. jumped back on at the sfo on- ramp should not be a major issue but you are now warned. sunday morning from 1:00 through 6:00 a.m. highway 37 has some slowing. friday is a letter traffic volume sent a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza. no problem on highway 4 for a little bit of slowing in san jose enhanced by crash on oakland road but no problems on

to buy the consumer sentiment will be in focus and earnings from citigroup and wells fargo . amazon on a hiring spree which marks a contrast to other parts of the tech industry. the company looking to create more than 4000 permanent jobs in the uk in 2022. these roles will vary from software development as well as operational duties and fulfillment centers. this will bring amazon's permanent workforce in britain to 75,000. unlike amazon come at major firms including microsoft, netflix, robin hood have slashed varying numbers of jobs . this weekend is a chance for you to shop for a good cause. h&m is one of 600 stores hosting a pie from a black woman pop up this weekend. it's a national nonprofit that aims to provide tools to help black women owned businesses succeed. the organization provides funding and educational programs and has since 2016.

at times and look at the temperatures. if you're heading out the door commit temperatures in the 50s to start. you don't really need a heavy coat, especially not when you look at these afternoon daytime highs. to date will be mostly sunny. a beautiful day ahead. inland areas upper 80s and nearing the 90s through morgan hill. san jose, mid 80s today. if you think of this as hots, get ready. i talked about the hazy conditions and there is an air-quality advisory in effect because of drifting wildfire smoke nearby. this can change but right now the aqi are air quality index is good but if we see the breeze pick up, it could blow that smoke in our direction. let's take a look at the near surface smoke. this is near yosemite. this is the washburn fire area and you can see how unhealthy the air-quality is and based on the latest model run through saturday, we won't have any impact on the washburn fire.

a lot of that smoke is blowing north into south lake tahoe but if you're traveling to south lake tahoe this weekend, and impact your outdoor activities through that stretch so make sure to pay attention and be careful nearby. unfortunately the conditions right now in yosemite are not looking good. the temperatures are hot. the conditions are high. something else we are monitoring in the bait area are king tides and there is going to be a coastal flood advisory starting at 11:00 p.m. through 4:00 a.m. for the san francisco bay shore and the pacific. and you can expect to see coastal trails and roads with the potential for localized flooding. any of those parking lots near the water, careful out there if you are out and about really early tomorrow morning through her:00 a.m. it should expire but we will monitor that through the weekend. saturday and sunday in san francisco. temperatures will remain and it will be breezy. we bump into the 70s on saturday. that remains in place. monday through wednesday we stick with high pressure which

means temperatures will remain really hot. high pressure will pump us into the 90s. 95 degrees by saturday. sunday, 90 degrees. we stay warm but dip into the upper 80s by monday and tuesday. the roads are great. still holding steady with the only real slowing is mayor island west out of vallejo toward novato. a beautiful drive. i just revealed some more slowing. just below 60 miles per hour over here into concord out of bay point. no backup or metering lights at the bay bridge. very light volume around the baby and insulate on north 101 around third. there could be an effect on traffic as they get vehicles to the shoulder. back to you . next, nbc bay area response. >> we have been hearing from many of you lately and we've been taking action.

senate, it is 50-50 democrats versus republicans. the debate just started in the past 32 minutes or so, that conversation has started with a number of speakers voicing their concern. now, there are two bills that would protect abortion access and rights, and let's take a look. we detail the points on your screen. the first would protect people who have to travel in order to leave their state where abortion is banned, to go to a state where abortion is allowed. that one windshield doctors who provide reproductive care outside of their state, if their state permits abortion. the other bill would codify, or put into federal law, the right to abortion access that was

once protected by roe versus wade. it would also for bid bans on abortion before 24 weeks, conventionally when it is believed that a fetus can survive outside of the mother. a lot of the debate is centered around the case of a 10-year- old girl who was pregnant because she was raped by a 27- year-old man. he was in court yesterday. a national official told political that in case the 10- year-olds -- unless the 10-year- olds life was in danger, she should've been forced to have the baby. nancy pelosi said it should be up to the person who is carrying it. >> this is an assault on women's dignity. an assault on respect for women to be able to make their own decisions about the timing. the right to choose is a kitchen table issue. contraception, birth control, they are kitchen table issues. they have an impact on financial well-being of the family.

>> we will track the vote on it the freedom to travel, and the women's health protection act. we will let you know what happened later today. to reiterate the point, this is expected to be a broad conversation that is symbolic. no one expects these will pass. into our newsroom, a firefighter in san francisco was rescued after falling down an elevator shaft. the fire started before 4:30 am on seacliff avenue near the presidio. the crew says that the firefighter is expected to be okay. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. all lanes of traffic along highway nine are backup in this morning after a man was killed after driving over a cliff. it happened at 10:00 p.m. last night near heather heights road. chp says the man was heading toward saratoga when he lost control of the car that he was driving. the car went over the side of the road 80 feet down an embankment. he had died at the scene. chp will release more information later today.

police in san francisco are cracking down on retail theft, officers took part in one of the largest seizures of stolen goods found inside of a home. this followed a month-long investigation, and police arrested sergio manuel puga- tenorio, who stole and sold items like personal care items online, to the sum of $200,000. investigators estimated that sergio manuel puga-tenorio operation was yielding half $1 million annually for at least the last three years. we have new video to show you this morning, it shows the aftermath of a truck that had crashed into a salon eighth street near cole street. this video was posted around 4:30 am this morning. no word on any injuries or what had led up to the crash, and we are working to learn about any impact on the morning commute. life music all around, san jose will have flock of seagulls. morgan hill will have

francisco. meanwhile, for inland areas, and inland spots, look at saturday. 95 and 96 degrees. maybe a couple of triple digit spots into the far interior, as we head into sunday, also in the 90s. any sort of outdoor activities, it will be beautiful and sunny. it will warm up really fast. you want to do any sort of activity early in the morning, before the sun really heats up. monday and tuesday, the conditions will stay dry. let's go ahead and get a look at gas prices. we are looking at gas prices, we will have changes that we expect ahead. we found gas under five dollars in richmond. that is the top of the list. united oil on 25th street. $4.99 a gallon. it is just under five dollars, but still, it is there. $5.29 at national on washington avenue. all under six dollars. this morning we had a look at

what will it do? when will it be completed? >> the mental health center is a facility for people that are wounded, or traumatized from the war experience. in ukraine, centrally it is a calmer situation. but refugees from the eastern part come here and they need help. we decided to help, and be a partner in this big project. it will be finished in october. >> reporter: this is something that people can call into to get the help that they need. the situation is very traumatizing there. >> of course, it will be open to everyone, but mostly for the soldiers, our troops that were injured, and of course families , and relatives that had lost their loved ones.
