our meteorologist as things are staying warm. >> warm for the inland valley but nice and mild for the coastline with low clouds over oakland as you get ready to head out not looking busy on the roads so hopefully it is a smooth start. right now 56 degrees you need to check it for now but not so much into later today headed into the upper 60s early in the afternoon eventually reaching 73. mid-seventies for hayward and mid-80s for dublin. temperatures warm up into the inland valleys with fairfield 96 degrees as we see mid-60s on the coastline. we will talk more about this range in temperatures and if there's any change coming up in a few minutes. happening now in san jose crews are trying to stop water from wasting away after a water

main break, going to the scene where the sinkhole opened up. good morning. >> good morning to you, a rough start to this monday morning in the east san jose foothills with the water stopped flowing but a small sinkhole remains, crews are working with new equipment. looks like the big truck with a concrete or cement just arrived this is a new crew that just got here. we want to show you the scene from overnight as these crews were trying to stop water to prevent it from making the sinkhole worse at columbine drive and martin avenue. water main break first reported around midnight, san jose water company and city crews working this as i have been working for a couple hours they tell us they do have water service for everyone who lives in the neighborhood and we will give you the update from mike's

front this will affect these small roadways but they are highly residential so unless you live on these two streets you should not have a problem going by, this work will continue for a couple more hours. from san jose, "today in the bay". we sent out a push alert on our cbs news app you can download it and get news to your device. a deadly shooting inside of a livermore bowling alley it happened saturday night, a fight broke out between a group of individuals that know each other, one of them ended up taking out a gun and opened fire. one man was shot and killed two others were hit, the victim is now identified as a 28-year-old , last night family and friends held a memorial in his honor. his father says that his son's friend was also shot that night. >> it all went down for him

teachers were killed. the scathing report finds systemic failure by agencies responding to the mass shooting at robb elementary school saying that they failed to prioritize saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety. >> several officers in the hallway or in the building knew or should have known there was dying in the classroom. >> the committee found 376 law enforcement on the scene most from state and federal agencies, five were uvalde police officers. video shows some of them retreating as the lone gunman opened fire. >> he was shooting in my room and they run back this way. i couldn't run. >> heavily armed officers stood in the hallway for more than one hour. >> one of my students had a gunshot to the stomach and if

officer is in jail. the men shot the officer during a traffic stop saturday, the department is releasing body cam image showing the man being stopped during a dui patrol. moments later he shot at the officer and then drove off and crashed. investigators worked with a area law enforcement tracking down the man in union city after chasing him on foot he was arrested in nearby fremont. >> the one call you never want to get as a chief and the one call that springs you out of bed immediately activates everybody in the department, every resource. all hands on deck. >> the officer shot is now out of the hospital and recovering. we have encouraging news from the fire lines of yosemite, people live in the community sitting just inside yosemite are back home, they were evacuated for nearly 2

weeks since the washburn fire with flames burning 4900 acres, containment 51%, the area which is home to the giant sequoia's seems to be safe, the cause of the fire is under investigation but park rangers believe it was started by humans. the fire burning in pittsburgh's marsh is still smoldering, contra costa firefighters tweeting pictures from above the marsh you can see the smoke coming from the fire burning since the end of may. on friday crews began pumping water into the marsh in hopes of letting it to distinguish the fire. 20,000 gallons per minute are flowing into the marsh. >> know you have a tracking conditions around both of the fires and the air quality. >> the air quality is a huge issue especially in the delta

and when we look at the washburn fire as we are still seeing this they are getting containment and getting the upper hand but look at the temperatures, starting in the lower 70s in yosemite and they were headed for the lower 90s with very low humidity for the afternoon. the smoke forecast pushes the wind direction with other factors into the equation to see where the smoke will be blowing and most of it blowing away from the bay area and also the fire burning in the county burning over near south lake tahoe. for the delta and marsh fire temperatures in the lower 90s and the air quality will be unhealthy at times. tracking where we can find lower gas prices. >> every morning we try to get a break when you fill up in san mateo check out south delaware street $5.43 and $.10 more if you go to oakley but prices are

look with the fingers of fog reaching across san francisco. a nice and mild day but the values are heating up, 57 degrees now headed to the lower 60s. >> a few minutes since we last took a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. filling in to the end of the parking lot filling in quickly but the crash cleared which is now back opened again. monkeypox spreading around the world and in the bay area, this week the world health organization considering declaring monkeypox a global health emergency and we are learning local state leaders are working to increase the number of vaccines available for folks in the bay area. i spoke in depth about the new push with state senator. >> the good news is unlike covid where we did not know with a virus was, we know what the virus is and we have highly

safe and effective vaccines and had the government ordered enough of these in 2019 when the vaccine was approved we could've controlled this already because we just vaccinate everyone at risk and it will be over but that did not happen. >> vaccinations are simple and easy to do. it is my understanding for instance i am 54 so i have the smallpox vaccine, they could giving that in 1972. people with smallpox vaccine are relatively safe. is that right? >> i called my mother, i am 52 i said that i get smallpox vaccine and she sent me a photo of it and i did get it in 1971 so i am not a scientist so obviously always rely on the science but what i have read and talking to infectious disease experts and what i have read in the studies that have

been done is that people who receive the smallpox vaccine even 50 60 or 70 years ago likely have some level of residual protection against smallpox and monkeypox. so you may get the infection but if you do you may end up with mild symptoms. >> we have done stories about this, what's going to be done to into the vaccine is being distributed fairly? >> well, so in 2010 telling us monkeypox would inevitably break out of africa and become more of a global issue. in 2019, monkeypox specific vaccine was approved by the fda very safe and effective with few side effects. and the and you government only ordered 56,000 doses so that is

two per person for 28,000 people for a national vaccine stockpile should have ordered millions so as a result, we are very very short on vaccines and then the fda failed to inspect one of the factories creating a further delay. that is all being turned around, we are pressuring the federal government, nancy pelosi putting pressure on federal health officials and i think they are developing a greater sense of urgency because it was sluggish at first but we see people waiting eight or nine hours in lines to go get a vaccine and that kind of chaos is not acceptable and we need to push and dramatically active particularly in the cities hardest hit. >> i talked with the senator about a lot more, you can watch the full interview on the nbc bay area news streaming app.

a high of 73 degrees and then mid-80s in martinez, 92 concord and 96 for fairfield and san jose the high will reach about 83 degrees will have a high of 92 in morgan hill. all about the microclimate not only today but the next few days still looking at the range of lower 60s to middle 90s as you make your way across the area and be prepared for all kinds of weather if you have to travel around the bay area. if you're traveling across the country there's a lot of extreme heat with records being broken once again. look at some of the highs reaching over 100 salt lake city and 10 far in vegas, dallas 108. unfortunately not a lot of relief for those areas dealing with the high-pressure slowly moving over the next few days and then we are going to see

warm temperatures inland with another area of high pressure just off the coast. through the next several days napa getting hotter in the lower 90s but overall not a huge change in temperatures and not a significant cooldown there next week so we are stuck in the weather pattern where valleys reach upper 80s and lower 90s. san francisco more of the same upper 60s all throughout the week. a look at the south county's. >> typically this is where we have traffic volume coming into the south bay. sizable slowing morgan hill. started heavier earlier today and we do see that coming into silicon valley. right now along even in the east bay pretty much at speed just a little bit around hayward. contra costa county we have volume building out of the ultima pass so there's no

crews have been out since midnight working on repairs. still trying to determine what led up to it with any potential impact on the neighborhood water supply. part of the road is shut down so avoid the area. a deadly overnight hit and run in the east bay under investigation. after 10:00 last night in oakland between 62 and 63 avenue. a man was hit and killed. police have shut down parts of the street due to this investigation. they are searching for the driver involved. no suspect vehicle information has been released. despite covert cases surging in the area and across the state bart is dropping the mask mandate today, the decision was made in spring to extend the mandate until july 18th, at the time the board pointed to safety concerns for immunocompromised riders and

the range of the epa standard of 12 but above the world health organization of five. moving into west oakland the 2.5 jumps up to nine even 12 in some places. the levels of nitrogen dioxide pollution from things like traffic and power plants, in pleasanton the level of nitrogen dioxide less than four on average. well within the guidelines from the world health organization of 5.3 but west oakland 14.3, san francisco bay use this data with low emission vehicle fleet with their sensors, mapping every public lock of the nine county bay area measuring levels of nitrogen dioxide. in conjunction with the bay area air quality management district it was found air pollution can vary 5 to 8 times from one

two people were killed in a plane crash in napa county at the lake berryessa yesterday morning, sparking a brush fire as well. firefighters put it out after burning one acre, an investigation is looking into the crash. the trial and the high- profile murder of kristen smart begins today 26 years after she was last seen alive, last week jury selection ended in the case of the 19-year-old cal poly student who vanished in 1996. 44-year-old paul florez is accused of killing smart, the father was charged as an accessory the two were arrested after searches of the home last year, pretrial hearings begin but the case was moved to monterey county after lawyers successfully argued there would not be a fair trial. demonstrations are plannedy

wednesday. truckers are protesting state assembly bill five that says independent contractors have to adhere to new rules to be classified as such. the trucking association argues it is tough to meet the standards and this would take 70,000 independent truckers of the road. the construction of 30 bike turnouts at mount diablo state park gets underway, last year 150,000 people biked up mount diablo. advocates urging the state parks and recreation department to install turnouts to allow cars to pass cyclists safely. southgate road from the park boundary to the junction with northgate will be closed to traffic during the workweek. several campgrounds are closed sunday through thursday night, these closures are expected to remain in place for the next three weeks.

plans to hold a monkeypox day of action this morning calling for the department of health and human services to increase the vaccine supply. the events, as the city is expected to receive 4100 doses this week from the federal government but san francisco requested 35,000 shots, as of friday health leaders say there are 86 confirmed and probable cases of monkeypox in the city. now to story you'll only see on nbc bay area news, a man is speaking about his medical one- two punch recovering from monkeypox and covid. the man says he learned he tested positive for coronavirus last month, he then noticed red lesions on his back legs arms and neck and a monkeypox diagnosis. he says both infections led to weeks of misery and feeling similar to a horrible flu. >> really sick and the worst of it honestly was where you could

barely get out of bed. you could barely get a drink of water. >> a professor of medicine from stanford says getting diagnosed with both viruses is not impossible but rare and covid is much more transmissible than monkeypox. a live look at capitol hill, this week the committee investigating the january 6th insurrection will hold another hearing for thursday. the next hearing is expected to focus on text messages from january 5th and sixth that were you raised the secret service. new witnesses are expected to testify, last week the panel issued a subpoena to the secret service after homeland security department briefed committees about deleted text, one bay area congresswoman says she expects the documents very soon.

90s working inland into some of those areas where the ocean breeze does not make it over the hills into spots like fairfield where the high will reach 95 degrees throughout much of the week. we are not the only ones dealing with the heat, look at some of the records as denver is headed for 101 and albuquerque reaching 99 compared to 108 in dallas and they have been dealing with the extreme heat for quite a while as a very stubborn area of high pressure is barely moving and it looks like it is not change much through the week only shifting to the east a little bit and there is more high- pressure behind that. we're going to continue with warm weather as we look at concord with 90s in the forecast throughout much of the week there is not much of a cooldown. dropping into the upper 80s that's what we will see for the weekend but we do have places to go and cool off to catch a break from the inland heat.

san francisco the coastline upper 60s throughout much of the work week. so you're looking for a trampoline? >> i want folks to realize that is not expected, here are 280 around seven street exit near san jose state that could be a factor but nothing other than the original report of a trampoline north 280. watching for that, meanwhile 101 slowing on capital expressway the typical pattern north of story past oakland road and the airport traveling up the peninsula a smooth drive more traffic from san martin and morgan hill so that will be a factor as folks are hitting the road with more traffic. over here the tri-valley with a smooth drive, still reporting west 580 around north livermore but i have not heard about convocations over a potential tractor break with typical slow

a man was hit and killed, police are searching for the driver. no suspect information has been released. police are searching for the suspect in a deadly shooting inside of a livermore bowling alley over the weekend happening saturday night at granada bowling a fight broke out between a group of individuals that knew each other. one of them ended up taking a gun and opening fire. one man was shot and killed, two others were hit, the victim has been identified as a 28- year-old, his father says that his son's friend was also shot but he is recovering at the hospital. the bowling alley will be reopened today. despite covert cases surging in the bay area and around the state bart is dropping the mask mandate starting today. the decision was made from the spring to extend the mask mandate until july 18th so that is today, at the time bart
