>> bob, local strike teams are trying to get every thing under control because they're being sent out on the front lines. >> reporter: correct, morning to you marcus and kris, we know at least three bay area fire departments who have sent firefighters to the oak fire. this is a fire burning in mariposa county, and so far it has burned over 15,000 acres, and destroyed at least 10 buildings. unfortunately it is right now 0% contained. the governor is declaring a state of emergency due to the oak fire pit about 2500 firefighters were on the scene, including five from the fremont fire department, which is right behind me. they headed up early saturday morning and a four wheel drive. >> this is in the early stages of the fire and it is pretty active. most likely they are either right in with the fire, actually extinguishing it as it comes to the houses, or following behind the fire front as it is passing because it is too dangerous or hot for the

firefighters. >> alameda county has sent 21 firefighters, including four from the oakland fire department. sonoma county has also sent a strike team, and the fire departments that have sent workers say they have backfilled the positions, so services in the bay area will not be impacted. the sunnyvale department of public safety said they are not able to send a crew to the oak fire pit on it twitter the public safety officers association said quote unfortunately, due to her current staffing shortages we were unable to assist." most of the bay area cruise sent to the oak fire are expected to be there about two weeks. and today back here in the bay area, we could start seeing and feeling the effects of the oak fire. good morning to you. >> good morning, bob. as we talked about the fire conditions, the impacts of the drifting smoke we do have an air quality advisory in effect today. i want to start with san francisco as it showcases the marine layer and low clouds

will help keep the smoke away from the area creating a blocking effect. but into the afternoon, if we take a look at the upper air smoke aloft, that means it is smoke high above, you will notice hazy skies and it will be visible and you will get that smoke and orange glow as you see it drifting right from where the yosemite fire is actively burning, especially up to them parts of ukiah and into the east bay interior. but you can actually smell and sense is the one of the surface and the near surface smoke, that is the smoke that you breathe and it is a little lower down below. if you notice the impacts from the smoke, a lot of that primarily stays aloft. not a lot comes to the surface, which is great and that is what we want to see. when it comes to the air- quality effect, potentially down below i will talk more about the timing of those temperatures and the smoke again coming up with a full forecast. back to you.

but, it is cloudy outside, we have marine layer and look at san francisco, this is a live look. that fog will help keep some of the smoke we will be seeing drift into the bay area within this area for now but look, we're seeing fog pushing into vallejo, even into parts of san jose and into the interior, definitely foggy. as far as temperatures we wake up to the 50s, mild and not too cold. 52 in morgan hill, 58 into fremont, san mateo is 56 but remember there is the wildfire advisory did the reason for that smoke advisory is because of the oak fire burning nearby. we will get a lot of upper air smoke that will continue to move west. as you head into the afternoon you could see the return of hazy skies and the orange glow. a lot of that will into the s

areas of south lake tahoe. so be mindful of that heading into the seer this week. so the hazy skies with dry conditions will mean temperatures today are up in the upper 70s and upper 80s into parts like concord where it is 88, and will stay dry and breezy through the hills with self and thoughtless wind 10 to 20+ miles per hour. tomorrow we will get some cooling, but there will still be elevated fire danger. because we are dealing with really low humidity. not a lot of recovery overnight. and then those breezy conditions continue heading into wednesday. you look at 70s and 80s, it is still pretty warm. there's a little slight chance of us shower activity, mainly for the sierra, early tuesday morning. so tomorrow you could see that and the possibility of thunder, because of monsoonal moisture from the desert southwest. we will keep a close eye on that. the most we will feel from that is cloud cover heading into the

week ahead. we are talking 60s with hazy skies and the air-quality advisory. mike how are the roads? spirit doing well and we look at the roads below the clouds, these have never been a problem for drivers and i saw a flashing light westbound across the span but no report on any problems from chp on their grid and i have seen traffic continued to move smoothly the last five to seven minutes. good news across the bay bridge. there is a disabled vehicle they may have been helping on 280 south bound but it should not be a problem. in fact, plenty of work crews on the san francisco side help that, we will keep track of the bay bridge all morning, and right now no problems on highway 4 across the venetia bridge, a little wind advisory from chp on that stretch but i have to change those sensors as they keep going to read it but the canyon is open from the weekend work. >> i will lend you a screwdriver. >> next on today in the bay, nbc bay area responds.

upper air smoke moves west. a lot of the impact will be higher above, not necessarily at the surface so while you may see that smoke high above, you may not feel it or smell it. keep those windows close because the direction of the wind lays a role in this as well. as far as the oak fire weather outlook, no improvements. we have seen pretty much no recovery in the humidity overnight. the winds remained breezy through the afternoon and even the overnight temperatures were in the 60s and 70s. today's daytime highs will be the mid-80s and that low humidity continues, and with dry conditions that will be always an area of concern throughout the entire state of california as we remain under in extreme drought. no more to the local forecast in a few minutes, but we have to check the roads with mike. spirit is earlier disabled vehicle we talked about may result in a traffic break for those heading south on 280 out of south san francisco, might just be an issue but it should be a few minutes and actively make quick work.

second homicide of the year for this marin city community, and the tragedy hits close to home, neighbors are frightened remaining and demanding more be done to keep them safe and the victim yesterday was his father of three, 42-year-old michael rogers, and we have lunch he was walking to his car with his wife to take her to work when he was shot early sunday morning. you see the victim's mother yesterday just devastated upon learning the new spirit she did not want to go on camera but she tells nbc bay area that the victim's wife was grazed by bullets. she says there were at least three suspects, and one of them she believes it ran right across her home on cedar drive did this has not been confirmed by investigators. neighbors woke up to the gunshots and they fear this will not be the last victim to gun violence from their community. >> all i saw was the girl on the ground who was kind of crawling like a military person, that is all i saw i was like oh my god. this is not good. >> this is ridiculous, the kids
