and the impact it might have on many people trying to make it. this is "today in the bay" streaming online . good tuesday morning to you. thank you so much for making us a part of your morning. i am marcus washington. >> and i am kris sanchez in for laura garcia. the california oak fire has scorched 70,000 acres near yosemite national park. at least 10 homes are destroyed and some with their entire property destroyed along with 3000 forced to leave their homes. 2000 crewmembers are battling the fire, which is 16% contained. in a few moments we will go to the front line. >> for now we want to check in with meteorologist vianey arana. the dry conditions are really

making the situation challenging . >> that creates fuel for the fire. if it is dry, windy, and hot, those are the three main factors at play. if we look right now at the current conditions, it is about 70's degree is. through the afternoon wind and 1:00 look up quickly the temperatures go up into the 80s at 85 degrees and this is when we start to see the breezy winds in up. because of the low humidity it is fueling the fire but it doesn't help when it comes to the impact. the air quality advisory was extended until today and you still look at the hazy sky through parts of the east bay

inland and also the northbay. keep an eye on that . we are keeping an eye on the impact at the surface and right now the air quality remains moderate but you definitely want to check out the bay area air quality management district and you can check out your local spot at www.nbcbayarea.com to learn the numbers in your area. back to you . >> thank you so much, vianey. san francisco right now is not able to keep up with the demand when it comes to monkeypox vaccines as a result, the doors will be closed once again this morning. today in the bay's ginger conejero saab is live. what are the options right now for a vaccine ? >> reporter: is still have certain options. one of the interesting things but i want to talk about first is how wastewater data is being used

to examine the spread of monkeypox here in the bay area . this will be important when we talk about vaccine allotment and how health officials can spot an outbreak going back to that, stanford is looking at wastewater data to estimate the actual number of people with monkeypox and the communities that they are monitoring. it is a faster way to track community spread. this was used with covid-19 and it is now being used with monkeypox. testing, treatment, and vaccines continue to be limited in san francisco. the city cannot keep up with demand. today the clinic at san francisco general is closing its doors because they are out of supply. a statement said san francisco has not been informed by the federal government of the monkeypox vaccine allotment for this week or when it will arrive today only 7800 doses

have been allotted, of which 262 doses were donated from san mateo county and there is other places giving out the vaccine. berkeley is providing vaccines through the steamworks baths on fourth street. experts remind people to check with your local public health departments because vaccine supply does vary county to county. people are looking to stay ahead of the spread of monkeypox . >> always so interesting to see the wastewater testing. thank you so much, ginger. making it in the bay is not expected to get easier because new economic numbers released could give clues as

to whether or not the country is already in recession. we already pay more for rent, food, clothing, and gas. second-quarter gdp numbers come out thursday, signaling the economy shrink. that is typically a warning sign of recession. present vidant and janet yellen are both downplaying fears and say it is not imminent. >> we are not going into a recession. the unemployment rate is the lowest in history. >> this is not an economy that is in recession, but we are at a period of transition in which growth is slowing. that is necessary and appropriate. >> the fed is expected to raise interest rates to tame inflation. the hikes have already entitled 1.5% percentage points this

year. this is the the fire that is underway in yosemite national park . firefighters are hoping to make even more progress fighting the oak fire. the winds have died down, but temperatures remain very high. >> miguel almaguer is is looking at the latest. some families have already lost everything. >> reporter: good morning, kris and marcus. this place was incinerated in a manner of minutes. this is california's largest fire this season. 17,000 acres and it will probably get close to 20,000 acres by the end of the day. the fire is still on the move today. it is moving deeper into the sierra nevada mountains and likely toward two

burn scars, where it will probably run out of fuel. firefighters think they might be able to contain this boys by the weekend. they have a long fight ahead of them but today we expect temperatures to be in the mid- 90s. winds can always be a factor. the fire is burning toward an area that has burned before. as you mentioned as well, for these families who have lost so much, they might never be able to rebuild. these mountain communities love to be in this area, but it is so so excitable to water fires. >> they saw the fire burning in the park and they probably thought that they were safe. >> thank you so much, miguel. also happening today, a larger reward will be announced to track down the killers up in oakland food delivery driver. video shows the moment patrick fung was shot and killed as he sat in his car. this was on the

13th avenue in little saigon. there is a $12,000 reward for information leading to arrest. they plan to add more money as well. plans to clear a northbay homeless encampment are suddenly on hold. teams were supposed to ask everyone today to leave the encampment near the trail between santa rosa and a judge granted a temporary injunction ordering a new hearing, which is tomorrow. plus take a live look in san francisco this morning. >> that is nice. you can see half of the building. >> all right. let's get a look at the forecast today.

clearly we know what the conditions are in san francisco this morning, vianey . >> we have a pretty active radar that we have been talking about the monsoon moisture since the weekend. it managed to push its way into our area. you can see the activity the parts of antioch and concord with the lightning strikes near sacramento as well. if you have seen any lightning strikes, which is what is now and be safe. the threat of lightning continues because we are very dry. as far as the temperatures go for today, we are in the 50s in san francisco. there will be sunshine and climbing into the mid-60s and now we will look at the gas prices with mike inoye . >> gas prices have declined 41 days in a row and they are $0.72 lower than they were . i

let's get to the weather. we have a lot to get through. san jose right now has the cloud cover. i do want to get to satellite radar because it is a really interesting start to our tuesday without the moisture was going to go up through the sierra, but if i zoomed is and closer, take a look at this. it is showing scattered showers at activity rate in through the interior central valley where there is still going to be enough instability where we could see this popping up through the afternoon. if you see a lightning strike, hopefully you are capturing it safely. 59 degrees right now and we will take a look at the temperature trend that we will be in the 60s and the marine layer has been hanging out for most of the midmorning. by the afternoon in san jose, we go

from the 50s right now into the 70s by 12:00 or 1:00 and we are talking about the oak fire as well. we have temperatures in the 70s with the humidity falling. what that is going to do this we will be monitoring the wind speeds because this could easily spread the fire and we heard a report earlier from miguel . it is going to continue to send the smoke into our area. the air quality advisory was extended through today. green and yellow means moderate and we will now get a look at your roads with mike inoye. >> thank you so much, vianey. the metering lights were turned on and it is a gradual build here. it has been 20 minutes since the lights were turned on .

redell with an update on the smoke advisory . >> reporter: good morning to you. the bay area air quality management district have extended this air quality advisory through tomorrow because of concerns of smoke from the oak fire that is burning in mariposa county. because of recent wildfires, california has some of the worst air quality in the country. according to the institute at the university of chicago come in 2020, 19 california counties ranked in the top 20 for the most polluted counties nationwide. none here in the bay area. they were in the sierra foothills and california central valley. the pollution levels exceed both national and international standards. on the left side of your screen, it is a satellite photo

from friday. the right side is from yesterday. you can see the difference with the smoke traveling north in the sierra nevada. law enforcement and firefighters have told hundreds of people in the path of the oak fire to evacuate firefighters from oakland and fremont have joined the fight. and francisco sent 52 firefighters and alameda county fire sent a team of 10. bay area agencies say do not worry that there will not be enough to cover if there is trouble here at home. >> fire stations are all fully staffed. we are looking for firefighters and everything. we are still dealing with covid- 19 and fatigue . >> reporter: yesterday many of

a house fire last night in antioch first responders arrived at 8:00 last night. the home is on serpentine drive . they believe it started in the garage one man died at the scene along with three of his dogs. a second person made it out safely. today in san francisco one medical healthcare workers will rally against the amazon plan to take over the company. amazon announced a plan to buy out the one medical parent company and one medical has 200 offices . workers are calling for one medical shareholders to reject the plan, going so far as to say that it could compromise the private after data of members. nothing about this transaction changes the obligation to comply with hipaa and laws and regulations. >> a painful reality for more

>> thank you so much, mike. oakland leaders are expected to approve a $1.5 million settlement with her former police chief procurement remember in 2020 commissioners voted to fire chief anne kirkpatrick without cause. she sued the city, claiming that she was fired because she blew the whistle on corruption within the commission. a jury agreed. the settlement announced yesterday covers one year of the salary of chief anne kirkpatrick and the city denies wrongdoing. here is what the former chief said in a statement. i hope that the agreement in my favor is a signal to all who are witnesses to misconduct, especially those in law enforcement. tough talk from the president about donald trump's behavior on january 6. >> scott mcgrew, president biden was speaking to a group of law enforcement officers .
