we have been working around the clock to address gun violence in the city of oakland. we know our efforts are working but it's still not good enough. >> cracking down on crime. this is amid the growing calls for change in the community. i set down one-on-one with the oakland police chief lebron armstrong to ask about the changes he is making and they keep funding the department is getting he said will promote change. and controversy.

dave chapelle is in the bay area as part of his comedy tour. we will tell you the reason white many people in the lgbtq+ community want those shows called off and canceled. this is today in the bay we are streaming live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv, and online. thank you for joining us on this wednesday morning. i'm kris sanchez . >> i'm marcus washington. first, let's get a look at the forecast with vianey arana tracking what we can expect. >> and it's going to be a cloudy start. a live look over san jose. you can see the cloud cover but temperatures will start in the 50s for the most part. this afternoon expect a range of temperatures. we have good clearing and inland temperatures. look at the temperature trend. around 10:00 or 11:00 we climb into the upper 60s. in san jose we are expecting that marine layer to hang out a little bit longer and areas t a like san francisco. carl the fog likes to stick around.

here's a live look at san francisco. i will take you through your afternoon highs and what to expect in the extended forecast coming up . let's take a look toward the niles canyon area. you cannot drive on 84. not connecting between 680 and mission. typical overnight roadwork and we look at 5:00 for the reopening. dublin interchange is fine. at the altamont pass we've seen speeds just start to dip below 65 miles per hour. no surprise. vasco is at speed from brent word and toward 580. south bay and peninsula moving slowly. no problem for visibility across the bay bridge or the golden gate. now to the latest on the growing cases of monkeypox. napa reporting its first case which means monkeypox is in every bay area county.

this comes as one of the main clinics getting other vaccine, san francisco general, announced it's out of doses. the hospital is waiting to get more from the federal government but don't know yet how many or when they will get them. in the past 10 days, san francisco has gone from 60 reported cases to 222 cases. we do have more information about monkeypox on our website head to nbcbayarea.com or go to the nbc bay area app and you will find a link at the top of the page. a call for help in oakland's vietnamese community is getting later louder after several atms were stole from local businesses and the search is on for a suspect who shot and killed an uber driver near the little saigon neighborhood. joining us is the oakland police chief lebron armstrong. thank you for joining us and i know you are very busy. i want to start talking about crime. it's no shock that crime in a

major city happens pretty much everywhere but i think we are hearing more from people within the oakland community is these crimes and crimes of opportunity are becoming deadly. talk to me about what you are doing within the city and department to better protect the people of oakland. >> first of all i want to sate my condolences to the patrick fung family. i have met with family members and shared with them my sadness for this tragic incident . like i have done in many of the 66 homicides we've had in the city of oakland this past year. some of the things we are doing to deal with these brazen crimes in our community is we are increasing patrols, particularly in the little saigon area. we are bringing out our command posts and are very visual police vehicle so it can be seen by the community. we are also doing controls to address some of the shootings, human trafficking the robberies, and even traffic enforcement. we have seen and enhance enforcement action by our staff. i have assigned a liaison to the little saigon area who is vietnamese speaking.

we know it is important that we understand that it's a multilingual community that needs an officer that can speak their language and communicate with them. it's important we build trust with this community in this moment. >> the most recent crimes and a community. the uber driver who was shot in his car. do you have any updates on that investigation? >> yes. yesterday the chinatown chamber of commerce announced it would be donating additional funds to support our $20,000 reward that will be given for information leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible for this crime. last week our homicide investigators released surveillance video that we believe voices are heard in this video that may be audible for someone. maybe someone can identify the individuals they say in that video. that is critically important. we have followed up on every lead we have received from community members and ask

committee members to continue to share information with us. and we believe at some point we will find the people responsible for this heinous crime. >> and chief common before you go, for anyone in the community who is truly relying on police officers to protect and keep them and their families safe and alive right now, what do you say to those people in doubt and in fear right now? >> i say to them that we have been working around the clock to address gun violence in the city of oakland. our cease-fire strategy is being fully implemented so community is at the table. resources are being provided. the partnerships with the department of violence protection and the faith community is working. homicides are down and the city of oakland at 12%. our shootings are down over 20% so we know our efforts are working, but it's still not good enough. i think it is our effort to do everything we can to demonstrate to entity that we are responsive to the violence and we want to prevent these violent acts from happening. >> i spoke with chief armstrong about more and you can watch

chapelle confronted the lgbt controversy had on. >> he basically said, get over it. i make fun of everybody. >> reporter: among those not laughing is lgbt advocates upset with the community and the venue pick up addition with 500 names call for the burbank center to cancel the shows. >> his brand of comedy has been particularly hurtful to the transgender community and we are an important part of this community and we feel like this is a slap in the face to us from the luther burbank center. >> reporter: in a statement the luther burbank center is that they carefully consider the concerns but in the end we determined it is not our role to censor him a particularly from an organization within our facility and one that provides diverse artist chapelle, a lightning rod of controversy, he was attacked at the hollywood bowl in march. show last week at minneapolis canceled after lgbt protests there moved to another venue across town and that show sold out. the netflix special includes the quote, gender is fact,

wall street set to open higher as investors await the federal reserve decision. the fed widely expected to hike rates by another three quarters of a percent as it tries to fight inflation. google's parent company alphabet and microsoft reported earnings after the close yesterday that were better than some beard said that maybe giving markets opposed this morning. stocks slumped yesterday following walmart's big profit warning that sent shares of other retailers lower as well on worries inflation has pushed consumers to pull back on spending. today we are focusing be on the fed. reports on durable goods and pending home sales and get earnings from boeing, ford and meta. uber is expanding its premium electric car service to more cities. now you can request uber comfort electric in las vegas and seattle, portland, denver, austin, philadelphia, and baltimore. it's available in san francisco and los angeles, san diego, and dubai. premium electric vehicles are

wednesday morning. and this is san francisco. i'm getting used to the site. >> this is like one of those despicable newbies where they steal the transamerica building. >> meteorologist vianey arana is tracking our weather. will we see this all week? >> yeah. i mean. carl said it's summer and this is my time to shine. that is a very san francisco summer. we even see a little drizzle on the coastline from the fog. you see that there in san francisco. let's take a look at what we see on satellite radar. as you know, yesterday through central valley we had a good system push as far. lightning chances are to the east and that system has cleared from the area. that will help clear out some of the skies into the

according to the chronicle the owners now say they will remain open until construction begins. so far there is no date set for when that will happen. >> we need housing but there's got to be room for both . nearly 1 million californians do not have access to safe drinking water according to a state report which finds some parts of the bay area are failing. ian cull explains what has to happen. >> reporter: every person in california has the right to say, clean, affordable and accessible water. but a number of water providers get a failing grade in a report from the state. most in the central valley and inland southern california. in the bay area, napa, sonoma and san mateo are the only counties were more than 1000 water customers are affected. the report does not get more specific than that. >> we are talking about almost 400 water systems willing to provide safe drinking water to customers. that significant. >> reporter: the acting state auto group michael tilden said one major issue is $650 million in state funding to fix it just

picture the milk tea lab on brenham lane in san jose and she said her store has been broken into five times over the past year. the last incident was last weekend. she did not want to put her face on camera but tells us sometimes it's taken up to 90 minutes for police to respond. >> we had a really good quality speakers that were almost $4000 and they took the speakers. and we want to have good involvement for our customers but i'm so scared to buy new ones to get robbed again. >> police tell us that staffing levels sometimes require them to prioritize calls and officers may be slower to respond to property crimes where no one was hurt. however, they urge people to report every crime because they say it can help to create a pattern ultimately leading to an arrest. today in oakland judge will
