some argue it may be the latest sign of a recession. >> reporter: while the bay area job market is strong and unemployment is low, national fears of a recession may ramp up in the morning if the gdp is on the decline. we spoke with the former secretary of labor and uc, berkeley professor. >> at the current rate we are going i'm afraid there could be a 50/50 if not worse chance of a recession. >> reporter: any points to the fed raising interest rates another three quarters of a point pick the most aggressive series of rate hikes since the early 90s as the fed tries to catch up with runaway inflation. the goal is to bring inflation from 9% to roughly 2%. those price hikes continue hurting both family and small- business budgets. >> if consumers pull in and do less buying, that contributes to a recession and procession means fewer jobs come at lower wages, and everyone suffers. that's what i worry about.

rails. the peninsula route is caltrain in the first set of electric trains are in the bay area and the fleet is starting to pass the first of many test we need to pass before they are ready for service. i spoke with dan lieberman from caltrain to find out more about the project. to make our electric trains that went through its first clear it said from santa clara. the train was outfitted with foam rubber padding to simulate the dynamic envelope of the trains ensuring the maximum clearance envelope was reached on the corridor. clearance testing will continue throughout other sections of the court or through august. after this the next test we will run will be when the trains are operating under their own power for the first time by connecting to the overhead canzoneri system. we will run all the new electric train through an array of tests on the acceleration braking, controlling communication protocols until we are certain they are ready

for the bay area the truly unhealthy air will likely stay closer to the fire as we have that ongoing onshore breeze that's brought in those low clouds should prevent the smoke from getting too widespread. we have hazy skies today. nothing in the orange or red or purple. again, some haze out there. high temperatures climbing into the mid 80s inland. upper 80s or 90 and parts of solano county. highs closer to 80 in downtown san jose. in the 60s in san francisco and oakland. weather will get more interesting for tomorrow and the start of the weekend. also watching the east. not just for wildfire smoke but we could see monsoonal moisture make a come back late friday into saturday coming in from the south and east. we could see some sprinkles early saturday morning but we may see a better chance for brief showers on monday. right there you can see monday morning a chance as those continued to drift away from the bay area. the seven-day forecast does not

hairbrush but is it even possible? it depends on the materials they are made of and that's the tough part. many times they are a mix of things like plastic, boar bristle's and glue. that can't be sorted and often it's not accepted at the recycling centers which means it's tossed into the landfill which can take thousands of years to break apart leaving behind harmful microplastics. it's time for your climate hack. reading the list of materials about a product of made of is important. for example these bamboo brushes or combs are great because they are made from natural materials. bamboo is biodegradable and compostable which means if you lose one of these and it's in the landfill, it will break apart making it less harmful to the planet. so what's the payoff? microplastic pollution is a growing problem. there is threatens our changing climate and our oceans and coral reefs. according to the epa.gov, coral reefs are diminishing around
