someone, a man, accidentally left his wallet at the bnt arm fruit stand in gilroy. a young teenager who sold the man two bags of cherries and corn told her father he wanted to return the wallet it turns out the owner of it was star trek actor, william shatner. her father contacted gilroy police for help. police got in touch with beverly hills police who got the wallet back to shatner. he went on to thank the family for returning the wallet calling them good citizens. very nice. might now at 6:00. this declaration will allow us to serve the city and its residents better. >> san francisco leaders declaring a local emergent over monkeypox. a live report on the changes

mid to upper 70s inland. tri-valley toward concord and fairfield seeing highs in the mid 80s. upper 70s in san jose. coming up we will talk about showers that could be part of the weekend forecast are some of the coastal mountains. the most urgent call yet and san francisco in response to monkeypox outbreak. city leaders declaring it a public health emergency and overnight the number of confirmed cases in the city jumped by 20 from 261 to 281 cases. that is a number higher than any other city in the state but help is on the way. ginger conejero saab is live in san francisco. talk to us about what this means. >> reporter: a declaration of a public health emergency means several things. first, it will speed up and streamline a better response to monkeypox which means and can also help with city resources,

planning, staffing, coordination across agencies. it will also allow for future reimbursement by the state and federal governments, as well as raise awareness about monkeypox. the declaration begins this monday, august 1st. biden administration announcing with an 700 -- 780,000 doses will begin to be distributed today but it's not known who will get them and how many pick so far san francisco has received 12,000 doses but needs 70,000. >> we are not doing a great job of nipping this in the bud. things are increasing exponentially. and if we don't do something now, there may be consequences. the consequences are spillover into the general population. the fact that it may become endemic meaning that it will be part of our regular life, which we don't want to do. so time is of the essence. we are kind of racing against time right now.

>> reporter: there is some good news for san francisco. it is receiving 4220 monkeypox vaccinations that will go to clinics throughout the city. this is an announcement made by san francisco department of public health. the general clinic will reopen once again on monday. to schedule an appointment go to san francisco.gov/monkeypox the zuckerberg san francisco general care vaccination clinic will reopen for walk-ins on monday, august 1st from 8:00 until noon and will reopen each day monday through friday from 8:00 until noon until they run out of vaccinations. health experts say it is a race against time to improve diagnosis, increase in vaccine supply, and also provide better access to treatment for those who need it. and something we have been hearing that's been more emphasized in recent days is that although marginalized communities have been at higher risk, monkeypox is something that everyone needs to pay attention to and learn more about.

symptoms. he said he tested positive after feeling sick yesterday afternoon. this is his second recent positive test after getting infected in maine. in a tweet he said in part symptoms are minor with intermittent grumpiness. my apologies to anyone i might have exposed in recent hours or days. start for one day so far wall street appears to be okay with the latest data showing the economy shrinking for a second straight quarter. stocks soared despite yesterday's news, but on the beltway it's a different matter. the numbers are quickly becoming political. brie jackson joins us live from washington. talk about how the white house is handling these recent mixed economic signals. biden is kind of downplaying it. >> reporter: you are right. and as you mentioned, everything here in washington typically becomes political so the biden administration is trying to avoid the r word and is downplaying economic concerns about a possible slowdown in the economy, while

there are people still waiting to be rescued. we want to bring in meteorologist rob mayeda who has been tracking those conditions . has the rain moves through or do they have want to come? >> the last 24 hours have extreme rainfall totals through portions of eastern kentucky. you see these areas of pink and purple. 5 to 8 inches of rain leading to widespread flooding. kentucky is getting a bit of a but you can see intense storms and localized flooding possible down through memphis and tennessee through the midday hours. back in the bay area we have nothing like that pick we have drizzle in san francisco and temperatures in the 60s. 80s inland around the tri- valley and morgan hill. this weekend we have extra mugging is in the air as monsoon moisture comes in from the east and we could see and isolated shower by early monday. now checking the latest gas prices around the bay area. >> it's getting for the weekend. you may want to fill up because you have weekend day trips. let's check out these prices.

though not as low as the prices from yesterday but in san jose we see $5.39. i will post these on facebook. in sunol we have $5.19. that's the lowest on the board here. in vacaville we did find one station at $5.23. those are some good prices. remember prices come up a little bit on friday. i think it is that supply and demand thing. we do have some bread on the map toward the tri-valley where we have a crash. a crash on highway 84 westbound toward 680. this is out of livermore and pleasanton and into sunol. a number of vehicles, maybe six , are involved. no major injuries but we do have fuel reportedly leaking in the area so this could get implicated near the paintball park so be careful.

good friday morning in san francisco, what you can see a bit, a lot of drizzle and low clouds with temperatures in the upper 50s and highs climbing into the upper 60s . a little drizzle but the big traffic issue is in the tri- valley westbound as you cut between pleasanton, livermore, and sunol. this crash causing a backup out of the area around middle valley road. a number of vehicles. both directions are jammed up. we will talk about an option. 6:15. wall street is set to open higher boosted by positive earnings from apple and amazon last night. the markets rallied for a second day as investors look past precession worries after data shows the u.s. economy contracted for the second quarter in a row this spring.

apple's profits dropped in driving those results. despite a drop in mac sales, the apple ceo says he has yet to see obvious evidence of the impact of the slowing global economy on the iphone business. services for apple which include apple music, apple tv plus, and the app store experiencing some issues with some pressure on advertising. no trick here for hershey which says it's treats this halloween may be short due to supply chain issues. the company cites lack of raw ingredients and other disruptions. hershey's is focusing on demand during the nonholiday. and said prices for candy during october will exceed last year. october is hershey's busiest time of year making up about 10% of its annual sales.

with july almost history, google is giving us an early look at this month's hottest search bay area topics. san jose's joey chestnut was a top search since even before he ate up the competition at nathan it's always tough to watch this video. but people really wanted to note the record he gobbled up with hotdogs. also one of the big searches was the san francisco recent marathon and the presidio tunnel top park opening. >> the tunnels that connected the presidio down to the water, they were turned into a park which was amazing. i got to go see it and that opened in july. lots of search interest about the grand opening about how to go see it. >> many people also search for background on the fires burning and yosemite and when the park may fully reopen. trending this morning is all things bey. beyonce top of the trending

the smoke advisory for today. san jose near 78. closer to san francisco and oakland. when you had inland come over the dublin bread, that's were temperatures in the warm more. mid 80s and the tri-valley toward concord and morgan hill in the 70s and 80s. you see the impact of the seabreeze in terms of bringing in the clouds and drizzle but here's the good air quality aspect. continues to push lower-level smoke and haze to the east and the oak fire is seeing less activity now compared to earlier in the week. humidity could be an issue. if you don't like muggy weather, this could not be the best weekend for you. the screen as monsoon moisture coming back toward california ringing in it in high-level clouds on saturday. by sunday there is a chance we may see an isolated sprinkle, especially around the hilltops on the coast. and by monday, that could be our best chance as this moves north of the bay area where we could pick up measurable

rainfall. maybe on monday morning, something to look forward to. san francisco, not much change. morning low clouds with temperatures in the mid-60s through the weekend and stay tuned at the end of the weekend forecast. we could see some isolated showers. now checking problems on the friday morning commute. looking specifically at the tri-valley because these green sensors dominate most of the map. it's friday with later traffic but we have a problem in both directions of 84 into and out of the pleasanton/livermore area. in sunol this is an issue and chp is calling for a sig-alert in the system and that means it will be there for a while and it's blocking more than a couple lanes. west 84, i'm not sure you can get through so take the dublin interchange. if you're coming from the altimont, 580 westbound is slowing as folks gather and head south on 680 and vice versa for the opposite

>> reporter: we knew it was something that was needed at the time, but we had no idea that we would be in the situation in california and the united states. it is extremely timely, as you say. >> why is this so important for you to work on? >> reporter: you know, as a 54- year-old woman at the time, i had felt that our rights were being eroded. i do not think that women had as much access as they should have. if you don't have access to, then it is a right. we had students from uc berkeley who wanted to know who would be able to other bills that allow medicated abortion on issues and uc campuses, it seemed like the right thing to do. >> the pills are available to students january 1st. will the cost be covered by the system or will students pay out- of-pocket? >> reporter: it would be $60- $80, it would not be cost prohibitive. there has been a special fund set up, because things have

changed also. when we did this bill, we made sure that there is a special fund set up so that there would be no taxpayer dollars that go towards this. now, we had a governor that believes that women should always have access to to abortion. public dollars are being used. in this case there is a private fund set up. >> according to the reproductive health report, 6000 students will take medication for abortion on cal state campuses every year. this will help others that are coming to the state of california, or who live here, who are seeking abortions at clinics. >> yes. we think that what will happen now is that students will have access to medication abortion on campus, freeing up appointments at other clinics, up and down the state. i know that a planned parenthood clinic that i
