their best offensive lineman. >> cris: no question. probably four team in the mix for that position. once they get that one figured out, i think it will either be brandon parker, alex leatherwood, rookie mund ford. they are flexible. leatherwood came in and played guard. eluemunor can play guard as well. one of the big things i look at it, the fact that lester is playing the right guard position the level he is, it is sort of setting them up now to be able to help at the right tackle position that they need it, shift tight end, whatever it might be, but this is a much better looking pass protection team. >> mike: third and nine. garber has a first down for the raiders at the time 31 yard line. you got me feeling good about the raiders.

when he was inducted in 2006 and reggie white's bust is behind john's. if they busts talk, you tell them, coach. kyle sloter is the quarterback again for the jaguars. that pass is broken up. the players and coaches and contributors. also every year an honor for a member of radio and television for their excellence in the league. you see some of the big names. al's name and john's name and howard is the winner of the pete rozelle award this year. executive at abc and dennis miller there as well. that the way they used to do the schedule. now howard, in addition to his role as vice president in charge of broadcasting and in charge of putting together the schedule with a great team that does that every year. he has been a friend to so many of us in the industry over many, many years. so great to see him honored for

his decades of service to the national football league and it's great to have howard up here in the booth. congratulations. pete rozelle award winner. your name will be in the hall forever. how does that feel? >> feels great. i always wanted to be the lead-in to the local news. >> cris: we waited a long time to wear your butt out on national television. i don't know how much you spent on this linen shirt here but it has a quadruple the value of your wardrobe coming out! >> cris: you know me way too well! way too well. >> mike: sloter pass is incomplete. we heard john maddon there. you worked with john and you worked with espn over the years. what have you seen as the special connection to television and the national football league as it's grown? >> this game was made for television.

it is a perfect combination of elements. the passion of the game. the ability to capture it all. the cadence of the game. it's all just so perfect and the nfl has really benefited by the right leadership as coverage has expanded. it's just a perfect marriage and i've been privileged to kind of be a part of it for a long time. i mean, when you and i met almost 30 years ago at espn, who thought the two of us would be sitting here doing this interview font? >> mike: exactly right. >> cris: you knew you'd be up here with us. is that why we got the bills and rams on opening day? otherwise, no way you're giving that to the monday night crew. i know you. or fox. that is the way you do it. >> we try to make sure all of our partners -- >> cris: stop it! i've heard this speech too many times. >> mike: can you tell us about the schedule?

this used to be truly a hands-on endeavor. this was the old school way. this goes back to val when he was starting to do the scheduling for the league? >> yeah. i mean, i'm really blessed by having a great team, led by michael that we worked together and put the schedule together. it's a great challenge. i mean, you know there is over 700 trillion possible schedules every year and trying to find the right needle in the right haystack. it's just an interesting process and it's not something that you can do lightly because there are so this constituents that have a role in this. you know? you got to make sure that what you do is fair and questionable and, at the same time, you need to make sure that we treat everybody well and deliver the best product to the fans and put games in windows where they will

be the most widely seen. >> cris: what happened when you had to switch to the computer for the first time? who was it that came in on the white horse and saved you? >> they started using computers before i got there, honestly. >> cris: really? let me help you out there. >> mike: he is a tv guy, you know? >> mike used to tell the story. values to do it and he would sit there and eat pistachio nuts and every once in a while put something up on the board. the reality they started building the schedule from week one. the first couple of weeks would be great and then they had to finish the schedule. now it's a combination of art an science, right? we put games we want in certain places and let the compute solve around that and every day what did the computer spit out? what do we like and don't like and what do we want to see in

that spot as we go through the process. we do the same thing every day. that is exactly what we do. at some point, we say, i think this is playable. >> mike: it's usually right and it plays out that way with the flex and all things and new windows and all that. seems like everything the league touches turns to gold. your wife janet is one of the best people and so are you. it's a pleasure and great having you as a boss and great working with you here. we couldn't be happier for you. congratulations. >> thank you very much. >> cris: it's a people game, right? over the years, we get to meet everybody. we get to hang out with a lot of people. but this dude right here, we have had more laughs, more fun, more entertainment. he takes jokes very well because he hears a lot of different things. but he has been the cornerstone of the nfl and the relationship with the networks for a long, long time. dude, i say congratulations to you. >> thanks.

parking lot hosting the show on the steps. armstead couldn't hang on to that. >> melissa: i have derek carr here. he is very popular with the crowd. he is back. these guys are back together. put up incredible numbers in college. you said you guys have dreamed about this. it's a gift. what is it like to be reunited? >> it's awesome. we have always stayed close throughout our, obviously, nfl career and trained together until i moved to las vegas and all that. being able to play together now. the work that was going towards the same college is pretty cool. >> melissa: coach mcdaniels says it takes you guys about five seconds to communicate and a lot of people didn't know you trained together in the off-season six or seven years. what are the two of you capable of? >> as much as, you know, the work that we put in allows. at this point, i think establish that we are both confident players with a lot of ability but, at this point, got to keep putting in the work and not just

happen because we dreamt of it or any of that cute stuff. at the end of the day, keep stacking days. >> melissa: talking about cute stuff. davante say you owe him a car? >> i do. i have a couple in my garage that i've offered multiple times which wouldn't cost me anything. i think i need to buy him one. >> melissa: what kind of car do you want? >> not ones in my garage. >> i think the quote from him was i would even buy him a car if he decides to come. so, i mean, buying a car and giving a car are different. but beggars can't be choosers. >> melissa: you did come and said the hardest to leave green bay. the longest you've been on a team. we have got pictures of you in raiders jerseys growing up. tell us about this. you can see them here. >> yeah, yeah. third grade yearbook. i was in a hospital visiting somebody. i don't remember how old that one is. tim brown. got my jersey.

manifesting it a while. good to see everything kind to fruition. >> melissa: you grew up a raiders fan? >> whole family was raiders fan and whole tenure through green bay. my family had a full raiders den down there. tim brown. like i said it's a pretty good feeling to be able to be here now. >> melissa: your brother was your brother david was texting you during that lightning delay and said you told him it was lit in the locker room. you guys were firing up all of the young guys. talk about this team and what you're excited about. >> we are very competitive. practice is super competitive. we got a lot of really good dudes on this team that work really hard. when your best players are the hardest workers, it tells the whole rest of the team this is a standard. to see that every day, i just felt that these young guys would come out and played hard and they played really good football so it's fun to watch, especially for us. you know? going into our ninth year watching these young guys play.

>> cris: i think this group of three key receivers with hunter renfrow over a thousand yards and darren waller a big target tight end and davante adams is a problem and josh jacobs a tremendous threat out of the backfield. yeah, we got great pass rushers in that afc west division. but there are going to be some issues trying to cover the three of those guys. then the question comes out exactly who is going to be those fourth and fifth receivers and they have some good options with that as well. although davonte did let on that he has the classic footage of all time because these guys are both phenomenal athletes and they have like slam dunk competitions, and, apparently, davante did one between his legs and double loop around, whatever it was. derek said i got that. he said you don't. don't do that. no, i got this.

i really do. he's one of those guys that live the dream and this fourth quarter of the hall of fame game is all about dreamers. those dreamers are playing as hard as they have ever played football their entire life. >> mike: he played good in the fourth quarter here in the second half. maybe get a few more snaps in the next few and who knows. try the inside run and nathan takes it in for the two-point conversion as well to go with the touchdown. >> cris: two-score game now. here we go. >> mike: this is a raiders home game so the flame was lit before the game like you have at alegionient stadium and reminds of us who is going in the hall this weekend. >> as soon as he got on the field, he said, coach, coach, i know i can take my man. clifford, we just got out here and you don't know who your man

is. he said whoever it is, he can't outrun me. he was confident in what he could do and he didn't mind stretching himself to get it done. >> mike: i'm so glad his sister told that story. two-time super bowl champ with the raiders. when he retired, he is one of six of those super bowl titles. a lot of those guys across the way in the hall of fame. >> cris: his partner in crime was fred biletnikoff. cliff would take the top off and the zoom guy as they say in the game. fred was just kind of working it underneath. those two guys, fred is already in the hall of fame. so it's exciting. and the interesting thing about this class has been that all of these guys had to wait. there were no first ballot guys. there were no quarterbacks. a lot of unusual things about

this class and so you're talking about a lot of people who were deeply, deeply appreciative. >> mike: justin hall takes it out. he is tackled around the 16 yard line. i think you've heard that from the inductees or the stories we have been able to share. a different feel to it for so many in this league. you start looking, other than cliff branch, taking on fantasy football leagues. offensive line and defensive linemen in bryant young and richard seymour. they make great teams come together and nice to step back and see them. what i love about this hall of fame. 362 folks in that hall of fame and it is spread to include the people who make a difference in this game. big run for austin walter. he had a touchdown earlier. he gets out near the 40 yard line. raiders over 300 yards in this game or right about 300 yards and over 130 on the ground. >> cris: an inside zone.

you'll see a block come back across the way here. cutback run all the time. that is the kind of runner you want. that one cut. you think in the old denver broncos, right? mike shanahan and put that foot in the ground and bet your butt -- get your butted up the field and they are executing the zone running game. >> mike: mike shanahan was the man that josh mcdaniels replaced when he became the broncos head coach. remember, monday night they beat the chargers who were san diego at the time. 6-0 and season didn't end well and the middle of the next season he was replaced. we got the sense talking to him this time around he is going to approach it his way and in a different way, be more appreciative of the individuals and the relationships and try to grow it. still at a very young age as a head coach at 46. >> cris: josh has been brutally honest with me at times when he didn't like something i said or did. and i was brutally honest with

him. to be honest with you, i didn't think when he went to denver he kept who he was when he was coaching in the offensive coordinator and it took him a little bit of time, right? but now when he comes back, maybe dad in the house makes a difference. >> mike: yeah. we mentioned his dad, tom, was the coach of the high school that played right here in canton mckinley. terrific writer lee "sports illustrated" wrote about the game. josh mcdaniels was the quarterback for his dad tom mcdaniels. josh missed an extra point. the kicker from mashland made it. the game was won by the rival. as we hit the two-minute warning. think about for a second his high school is right down there and he walked by this hall of fame every day on his way to school. he has been in there a couple of dozen times and to bring an nfl team here and have dad here, a street named after the mcdaniels

about a thousand yards or so from here. what a way to start this second chapter in his head coaching career. >> cris: i think a lot of us, when he did take the job and convinced he was waiting for the new england job, right? with bill, bill could coach forever. you don't want to wait too long there. but this came up and mark davis and he had something in common. they were coach's kids and a connection. right away, he said i get how that could work, right? >> mike: al davis is in the hall of fame. raider nation is very proud. it's been a long time. 20 years since their last super bowl appearance, super bowl xxxvii. back here for jacksonville's morgan comes to to make the play. this is our one preseason game and we get our regular season

monkeypox testing and treatment which will help track how and where this virus is spreading nationwide. >> it's the phrase every local county is waiting to hear, more doses of the monkeypox vaccine are on their way. the federal government says they are being shipped to every state who in turn, send them to counties. santa clara county just got 2100 doses. good news, but not enough good news. the county health officer said in a statement, while public health is excited to see this larger shipment, vaccine supply remains woefully short in santa clara county as is the case across the san francisco bay area region and the country. the federal government is hoping to address that by declaring monkeypox a national public health emergency. >> we urge every american to take monkeypox seriously and take responsibility. i do think

new development in the fight to keep the east bay elementary school open. parker elementary schools, one of a dozen schools that oakland unified plans to close or merge over the next two years. some teachers have been occupying the school and teaching classes, and today a teacher told us that she and others arrived to find out they had been locked out of the school. the video you are looking at was provided by a parent which reportedly shows the teachers, in that very moment. the district says, the staff did go to the school today, found the buildings empty, they changed the locks and set the alarm. school district said someone broke in, they were removed and the district is now adamant about keeping people out. a tense afternoon in martin as a fire that threatened homes, thankfully is fully contained. this guy ranger was overhead and you can see the flames and the smoke and the homes in the background.

this is on the hillside above the homes. this is near pacheco avenue and martin is near the 680 on-ramp. they were able to contain this to 17 acres of people in nearby businesses took things into their own hands and they got other hoses to protect their buildings. the wind actually helped the firefight. >> it was a little nerve- racking right across the road. >> the conditions were not in our favor however the wind did help us by blowing in the right direction and allowed us to get structure protection in place and avoid evacuation orders. >> the fire is now out and investigators believe the fire began in or near a homeless encampment. a sniper who stalked his victims, that's how police are describing a man they arrested in connection to a series of pellet gun attacks. today, police and prosecutors laid out the evidence against

seeing drug users using drugs on our streets in front of our kids. what is your response to that? >> these centers are going to fix exactly that problem. it actually gives drug users a place that is not in the public view, not in plain sight of our children, to go and safely attend to their addiction illness with medical professionals at hand and what we know is the centers remove the impacts of drug use out of neighborhoods, into a private space, that people are more likely not only to survive, not die, but also, to get help, to get treatment, and that is what we all should want. >> any indication that the governor will sign off on this? >> he has not responded to my text messages, i'm sending him a letter today but i feel like things that he has said in the past, indicated that this is
