especially in spots like livermore reaching 85 degrees. we'll talk more about what's ahead for the weekend, coming up. mike a few crashes on the road? yes, a live look here at palo alto looking north around 101, a report about a crash here. we don't see any real slowing. just outside the view of our camera. we'll track that. these sensors haven't changed in the area. there's another crash on 280 up in the city, a disabled vehicle. we'll get details and a few other incidents in the north bay off i-80 off the roadway so no major interruptions. over to you. thanks mike. first, it was san francisco then the state of california and now a nationwide public health emergency for monkeypox is being declared. this comes amid rising complaints of testing delays and vaccine shortages. today in the bay ian coal breaks down what this means for the

fight to get it contained. >> more than 2100 monkeypox vaccine doses, the federal government is di viing up vaccines to states sent to counties. health officer dr. sara cody says it's excite to go get, still not nearly enough. nationwide monkeypox is multiplying with more than 5600 infections. prompting the biden administration to declare a public health emergency. >> we are doing everything we can to end this outbreak. >> the white house plans to roll out several million doses of monkeypox vaccine targeting at risk communities. health officials say almost all cases have been in men who have sex with men but the available supply is falling short of demand. the san francisco aids foundation received 1,000 doses despite a waiting list of 1,000 people. >> we need to insure we're not repeating the mistakes of our past by politicizing this issue

as something that only impacts a group of individuals because of their behavior or identity. >> it remains to be seen how many vaccines we will need. >> stanford infectious disease expert is currently studying if monkeypox can be transmitted in other ways besides skin to skin contact. he said the white house made the right sdreks. >> the fact of the matter is, if could have had was not there we would see monkeypox as a real emergency so i'm glad we're still recognizing that even though it's happening the same time as covid. one of bay area's biggest music festivals is back pandemic or not. today more than 200,000 people will flock to golden gate park for outside land. the set up is almost complete and this year there's no mask mandates or vaccine requirements. but that has a lot of people raising red flags especially given the current covid surge

and monkeypox outbreak. the mayor says let the music play we want people to napd that covid-19 and monkeypox are still issues out there and the department of public health at this time does not believe that events like this should not continue as a result. >> the mayor says don't come to the festival if you feel sick. outside lands is expected to bring the city roughly $71 million in new revenue among the biggest acts, post malone, jack harlowe and green day. in the east bay, community members and school district officials clash outside an east bay elementary school at this hour, it's believed some two dozen activists might still be inside oakland's parker elementary refusing to come out. as today in the bay explains the district may have decided to close the school but the community is vowing to keep it open. you're looking at video taken at oakland's parker elementary when members of the public tried to

push their way into the building. >> some of the shouting indicating that someone was on the ground as activists demand they let the person go. we spoke with misty cross who is one of the organizers of the group who wants to keep parker open. >> the last two months we have been giving the community resources and things that they need. what we did was food distribution, community empowerment we reached out to oakland union nighed and they released a statement. osd staff went to parker and found all the people who had been inside the building have left the premises so we changed the locks and set the alarm. someone picked, cut or otherwise broke through a lock to get back inside the building. they were removed. now we are doing what we can to keep several others from entering the building. >> parker is one of dozens of schools the district plans to close or merge over the next two

years. the community has been fighting hard to keep it open because the closure affects students of color. that's why the community is vowing to occupy the school. >> the bigger fight is that our kids are being attacked by privatizers and capitalism continuing to flow over into neighborhoods to where we do not have that much control over. activists will plan their next move. cheryl heard, today in the bay. >> we'll cover the press conference later today. how major corporations are making moves to fight for our climate in crisis. ride sharing teamed up to get drivers on the road to go green but offering electric rentals specifically teslas to be used by uber drivers instead of gas powered vehicles t. numbers show the progress.

so far, 15,000 drivers have rented electric vehicles. 5 million electric miles have been driven with 148,000 gallons of gas that didn't get pumped. all of this equated to some savings for drivers during a time when gas prices have reached national record highs. and although we have seen a slow down to that gas price increase, uber says the partnership has opened doors for a greener lifestyle for drivers who 98% have never driven an all-electric vehicle before we hear from drivers that they want to be part of the climate solution and they're looking for ways to do that. i think the larger challenge is we need to make electric vehicles more affordable for everyone. historically electric vehicles have been more expensive than the average gas powered car so we really need to make that transition. >> riders can also opt to go green by choosing comfort green as their ride option, something only available in select cities

expected to show hiring slowed last month. forecasters are calling for 258,000 jobs to be added in july verses the 372,000 in june. we're expecting unemployment also to hold steady at 3.6%. job openings are down and the number of people filing for unemployment is up so this is the first of two job reports that the federal reserve our central bank will see before it's next meeting in september when it's likely to hike interest rates again as it fights inflation. the dow slipped 84 points yesterday but the nasdaq closed at its highest level in four months. doordash doesn't expect a slow down in demand even as consumers continue to order in. that's with inflation hitting 40-year highs. the company reporting a record high of 426 million orders in the second quarter signalling americans haven't really cut back on food delivery.

heads up that anywhere from vegas down to southern california and parts of the sierra will have a chance of storms again today. we are starting to see drier air moving in. the green here on the map indicating where we are still seeing the monsoon moisture moving in. but some drier air nudging into the bay area and that's going to help make it feel much more comfortable. as well as getting cooler temperatures let's take a look at our highs for today. santa rosa, upper 80s but how about upper 70s today. we're seeing the cooler air coming in for this afternoon and even for inland spots that have been dealing with 90s. it's only slightly warmer for our inland valleys tomorrow but still nice. san jose reaching 78 degrees and 73 in san mateo. for sunday looking at temperatures starting to crank back up into the upper 80s for fairfield and san martin but

generally speaking, mostly in the 70s and 80s and really nice weather for outside land this weekend. today seeing a high of 70 degrees there and then some upper 60s and low 70s throughout the weekend. as we go into next week, that monsoon moisture returns that could fire up some more showers for southern california and the sierra. but for us, the humidity does continue to drop just slightly as our temperatures reach into the mid to upper 80s throughout the weekend into early next week. san francisco will see a mix of sun and clouds and highs reaching into the upper 60s. mike, how is it looking in the north bay? >> checking out the san raphael camera, northbound there may be a crash just north of the camera. you did see one set of flashing lights heading through the area 5-7 minutes ago so they may be arriving on scene north of the curve where our camera is located. looking at the southbound commute moving spoothly. the sensors ft. area are all green so that's fine for the

this dire is going to happen to a 2-year old dog playing in the backyard. >> stafford's vet told heroinny would need surgery right away to survive. the problem was, her parents couldn't find a neurologist to do the surnl ri anywhere close by. >> my husband and i were completely frantic. we just like if it was a human child, we literally just whatever it took, we were going to do it: after calling 30 vet hospitals across the state and in oregon, they managed to find one in southern california. they got her there in the nick of time. >> we want to do everything we can for the animals. we feel bad for the clients for their frustration and anger. >> dr. carl with the uc davis of veterinary medicine says we're experiencing an unprecedented shortage in veterinary care. a surge of people have adopted pets during the pandemic and clinics don't have the staff to keep up. >> when the caregivers have

covid for the covid runs through the hospital it can wipe out an entire hospital and there are hospitals in the area closing for 2-4 weeks because 80% of their staff was out. >> the bottleneck is likely not going to improve any time soon and he urges pet parents to keep on top of preventative care and map out a plan in case of an emergency. stafford is grateful to find a surgeon and it costs $14,000 but winny is expected to recover. >> i she means the world to me. i have three grown sons. she's my little girl for sure and i would do it again tomorrow. >> in the north bay, jody hernandez, nbc bay area news. we're glad she's okay. developing now, there's new pressure on the white house to secure a deal to free wnba star brittney griner. a russian court sentenced her to nine years in prison for a drug offense.
