sun shining over. what a way to start our weekend. thank you so much for starting it with this. i am kira klapper. rob mayeda joins us with your forecast. >> this shows you the trend that we will be seeing as we move through the morning. low clouds and fog with drizzle in a few places. 60 degrees in san francisco. low clouds fading away in the as we head to the midmorning hours. patchy clouds on the coast. nobody is seeing any heat. temperatures in the 60s and 70s. 80s inland and then upper 70s closer to san jose. we will tell you about when we could see some 90s returning to our forecast. >> we will see you soon. outside lance is back in it

almost feels pre-pandemic. there were hundreds of thousands of people with very few masks. there are lingering concerns about recovery and monkeypox. we go inside the biggest music festival. >> reporter: it is back and in full swing. huge crowds enjoying the first night of outside lands. >> it is definitely very different than last year because of monkeypox. >> reporter: while they took precautions -- >> i try to stay away from large crowds. >> the last time i was here was 2018. i think there are more people here now because we were sick of staying home a little bit. >> reporter: they are out at golden gate park.

the doctor says he would feel fine being in these crowds. the fact that this festival is outdoors means that recovery is not a big worry. monkeypox is also low risk. >> the biggest risk is in the end of meant setting. the login share his skin to skin contact. hugging, high fives, will not spread monkeypox at all. >> i am a little more careful than normal. >> reporter: in san francisco, nbc bay area news. san francisco hospital says they do not have enough doses of vaccine. meanwhile sf general is putting a stop to walk-ins at his clinic which will be in effect until tuesday. if you have an appointment schedule, you are good to go.

police in the east bay are trying to find the people that shot into a barbershop hitting a 13-year-old girl. it happen in broad daylight in san leandro. >> reporter: a large bullet hole remains at this barbershop in san leandro. police say two to three shots were fired inside the shop. a 13-year-old girl was hit by bullet fragments in her foot. >> i saw her sitting there and i am hoping that nothing is fractured. >> reporter: nikita owns the store next door and she rushed to get her customers in the back and called 911 >> i was here doing what i do and i heard gunshots. >> reporter: this is video

showing the scene afterwards. the 13-year-old was treated at a hospital and is expected to physically be okay. nikita was shot in her arm when she was 18 and hopes the girl will heal mentally as well. >> this has got to stop. >> reporter: police are not sure if it was random or a robbery gone wrong. we tried to reach out to the owners of the barbershop, but we have not been able to get a hold of them. one person is dead following a car crash in the south day. it happened on highway 87 in san jose. the chp says two cars were involved in the collision. we will continue to update this story as more information becomes available. sake of follow up now to the fight of a closure of an east bay school. parents are vowing to fight any effort for the takeover of the

school. security guards confronted a group trying to get into the building. this is video shot at the protesters showing part of the confrontation. demonstrators claim that the class sent three people to the hospital. they are calling for an investigation on how they were treated by security. >> they have been doing this for almost 20 years of closing schools and communities that need them the most. >> this was a violent attack against parents and teachers and a liberation that has been peaceful. >> reporter: previously the district urged demonstrators to find another way to protest. the district hasn't responded to allegations of violence. and now to berkeley's

people park where it is not just protesters halting construction. a temporary stay which means uc berkeley cannot move forward. dozens of demonstrators vandalized equipment and faced off with police hoping to stop the project and keep the park in taxed. this will create housing for about 1000 students. it can put up a security fence around the park. we are hearing from a san francisco charrettes cadet who says the city's board of supervisors president verbally abused him at a city hall security check park because walton did not want to take off his belt. details have been trickling out since the incident but now we are hearing from the cadet himself. here is the story.

>> reporter: a cloud is hanging over san francisco city hall. the board of supervisors president is accused of using a racial slur against the chivas cadet >> i just want him to tell the truth. >> reporter: he says that his truth is explaining what happened when the supervisor was asked to take off his belt before going through security at city hall. >> we did make an agreement between him and i that if there was not a crowd i would want him. it was the weekend of pride and obviously there is a hustick to agreement. >> butler says the supervisor wanted to push his way through but he did not allow it. that is when walton got mad and used a racial slur. >> he looked at me and pointed at the glass and said it is in words like you do cause the problem. >> reporter: an internal memo

claims that walton admitted to using the racial slur many times during the exchange. and now walton is defending the exchange in two written statements saying in part the whole thing is being mischaracterized. he says no other supervisor has been more on the sheriff department side than him. and the sheriff's office is retaliating against them because he has called for more accountability and transparency in the sheriff's office. the mayor is weighing in saying the worker should ever be treated with disrespect and the "n" word is not appropriate in the workplace and an apology would be appropriate . >> i just want to look his constituents in the eye and tell them he lied. >> reporter: he says he stands by his statements.

"today in the bay." nearly 1000 firefighters are still near the oregon border battling the massive mckinney fire. it has been close to 60,000 acres. other smaller fires have ignited in the surrounding areas. four tests are tied to the mckinney fire and dozens of homes are destroyed. we are now learning that that fire may be connected to a power line owned by pacific power. these photos show the fire soon after it the night it just hours before they were taken there was a power outage in that same area raising questions as to whether those two things are connected. you can watch the full report on our website. just go to https://www.nbcbayarea.com/ . the warriors will be hosting a school supply giveaway

registered to her wedged up against the garage of an apartment complex. tmc is reporting she crashed into it. before anyone could help her she put it in reverse and took off. firefighters say the car was seen speeding down the street before launching into the air and crashing into a home. it ignited a fire that engulfed that home. paramedics rushed anne heche to the hospital with severe burns. she is known for her work on a soap opera. she also dated ellen degeneres. indiana lawmakers have become the first a passion abortion ban since roe v wade was overturned. the bill allows for limited exceptions. lawmakers passed a bill during a special session called four

by the states republican governor. he issued a statement saying he believes the bill makes progress and protecting life. and now to the family of an oakland woman who vanished several months ago. there is evidence that leads them to believe that she was in fact murdered. alexis gabe was 23 when she told her family she was going to see an ex-boyfriend in january. police believe the ex-boyfriend killed her. last week police met with her family and gave them a detailed timeline of what they believe happened. that includes surveillance video from two days after she disappeared. it shows her arriving at his mom's home and taking several heavy garbage bags out of his car. her dna was detected inside his washing machine and in the back

of his car. her family says they can no longer hold out hope that she still might be alive. >> we are going to talk about whether it is time for us to do a memorial for her or maybe to a celebration of life. if we have to wait until we find her. we definitely want to do something so that our daughter can rest in peace. >> the suspect was killed by police when they tried to arrest him in june. the family is hoping to see continued searches done in amador county where police believe her body may have been dumped. staffing shortages are hitting at east bay library. the walnut creek branch was closed yesterday and will remain closed today due to a staff shortage.

officials did not explain why the library was short on staff, but they are encouraging people to go to the pleasant hill library. happening today, man's best friend is taking over the beach for the world dog surfing championships. they are hoping to bring home the golden surfing award. there will be a dock beach fashion contest and dock adoptions. it raises money for dock related nonprofit organizations. what else is happening this weekend? we have lots to do today. first saturday at dolores park in san francisco. fans and friends of felines are invited every saturday of the month.

we should see upper 60s around san francisco and more clouds for the moment in san jose. 65 degrees with a mild start to the morning. low clouds surging all the way to the past. walnut creek, 64. this is one of the warm spots around the bay area. there is a look at the sun over downtown san francisco at 61 degrees. a sea breeze that is keeping our air quality good. and it does not look like wildfire smoke will be impacting us. we have the mckinney fire to the north and lightning strike fires on the coast. what is left at the low clouds inland should fade away by mid morning. on the coast where it is foggy, you will see more of that through the day. by lunchtime, numbers are starting to climb

or perhaps a robbery gone wrong. we tried to reach out to the owners of the barbershop, but we haven't been able to get a hold of them. and now to a follow up over the fight of the east bay school. a handful of public education activists are vowing to continue to fight their takeover of the oakland school. oakland unified some people to change the locks of parker elementary and soon after security guards were confronted by a group trying to get back in the building. this is video showing part of the confrontation. demonstrators say the clash sent three people to the hospital. yesterday they held a news conference calling for an investigation regarding how they were treated by security. >> they have been doing this for almost a 20 year period of closing schools and communities that need them the most.

starting off with patchy low clouds. 65, san jose. more clouds out toward dublin. you can see how far those clouds moved in. more clouds in walnut creek. we are 64 degrees and seeing more sunshine. san francisco, 63. the onshore winds are helping us out with our air-quality. it is good across the board. upper level wind is keeping the wildfire smoke away from us . it looks like most of the smoke will stay north to mendocino county. we started off in the 60s with patchy low clouds. clearing skies as we head toward the afternoon. not to chile for a change around san francisco and oakland. mid-70s with the festival of

the arts going on this weekend. morgan hill over toward the tri- valley should see 80s. the bay bridge series comes back and oakland, 4:07. it will be a beautiful evening for baseball around the east bay. we have had some unusually wet weather around the sierra. you saw the flooding around death valley. that system is moving off to the east. the moisture and the mugginess should catch a bit of a break this weekend. areas in green where that monsoon moisture will stay more across southern california. the next chance to see some of that monsoon moisture come closer to the bay area might be on tuesday. most of that should stay south of lake tahoe.

october. tourism is san francisco's biggest moneymaker. many international travelers are not coming back, especially travelers from asia. passengers into sfo for june back in 2019, more than 5 million international travelers arrived at sfo. this year we saw 3.5 million. here are the numbers for each of. the number is down 71% and compare that to travelers from europe with the numbers are down 29%. so what is going on? according to the san francisco travel association, covid restrictions are a major problem especially in china. there are mandatory quarantines which is a big problem for us.
