during the january 6th insurrection and posted on social media urging others to engage in violence and to be ready for "combat." let's get back to what those agents may have been looking for at mar-a-lago. there's a report from "the washington post" overnight that their sources say they were searching for nuclear documents, documents outlining nuclear weapons, not clear if it's u.s. weapons or another country's weapons. also, there are indications this morning, there may be more classified material still inside the former president's florida home, so a lot to unfold here, marcus, kris, and we should learn a lot more later this afternoon. >> i mean, it's interesting, because i think a lot of folks might have assumed that the documents that they were looking for, the information was related to the election. come to find out, it wasn't. what else is out there? so many questions. >> yes. >> thanks, jay.

to school front with children and parents, a lot more to weigh in the wake of covid, but you know what? the president of the state board of education says the main thing families need to do is relax. >> when people are anxious, when they're worried about whether they're, you know, going to be compared to someone else or found to be in deficit or something, it actually impedes learning, so the most important thing we can do for our kids is create these settings where they feel supported, safe and able to learn. >> dr. darlene hammond leads the independent learning policy institute. she says its students are performing better than they did five years ago even accounting for the dip in 2020 and even though the pandemic, taking extreme measures, inspiring teachers should stay the course. >> there's been a 30% increase in funding for education, so that means working conditions are getting better, salaries have been improving. >> california's budgeting historic funding for education

$128 billion in all, that means nearly $8 billion for learning recovery emergency fund, which can be used for tutoring, reading assistance and mental health. also $184 million for teacher residencies and $85 million to develop math teachers. >> i needed that pep talk. not gonna lie. let the games begin and the tailgates for that matter, because sometimes that's the best part, right? 49ers football is back and tonight the faithful make their first sojourn to levi's. hopefully the first step in a super bowl run. gee, you might see a lot of changes this season. >> including why are you wearing those colors? >> this isn't packers color. that is gold. gold. "today in the bay's" bob redell is at levi's. >> i was wondering why you were looking at me like that.
5:09 am
>> bob, this looks like it's going to be trey lance's team. >> reporter: well, this is of course his first year officially as the starting quarterback to replace jimmy garoppolo. we spoke to nbc sports bay area 49ers insider matt mayoco to ask him his thoughts on what lance needs to do to be successful in his first year as starting, of course his second year with the team. mayoco points out a lot of new quarterbacks end up on bad teams and have to do everything by themselves. he believes that is not the case with the niners and trey lance has a good supporting cast in the likes of deebo samuel and george kittle and a good defense to boot. >> what trey lance has to figure out and this is something that's been kind of hammered home to him is that he doesn't have to do it all by himself. all he has to do is just take care of his business and not make the big mistakes and the 49ers should be fine.
5:10 am
they should be able to compete for the division title, and compete for a playoff spot and if the team stays healthy throughout the season, i would say that they have as good a chance as any to make a run to the super bowl. >> reporter: the thought with lance was that he was going to transition last year into the starting position to replace garoppolo, but garoppolo hit that winning streak that ultimately took the niners to the nfc championship game. with regards to the at that time us of jimmy g., maicco think, it's too late for the niners to trade him to another team. he believes it's a matter of holding onto him so he doesn't go to a divisional opponent to seattle. there are still tickets for tonight's game against the packers. the kickoff is at 5:30. reporting live at levi's stadium in santa clara, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> that's got to be rough for jimmy g. to be held so nobody else can have him. that's rough. >> at least he still gets paid. >> well, there is that. thanks, bob. >> just saying.
5:11 am
>> he'll be hanging out at the snack shack. >> hear more about the 49ers in the preseason on the latest episode of "49ers talk" which drops after the game and follow nbc bay area sports for all your coverage. >> man, people get sunburns at levi's stadium early in the season. >> it will be super sunny out there this evening. we're going to have nice weather, breezy winds. let's get a look at that forecast, because if you're out there early getting that parking spot, tailgating, the temperatures will be in the upper 70s, pretty warm there and as we go into the rest of the evening the temperatures at kickoff will be about 77 degrees. notice the wind gusts to 20 miles per hour as we go into tonight, we start to see the temperatures dipping to the low 70s but overall, really comfortable for that preseason game, and also looking at temperatures around the bay area heading up for the upper 70s for much of the inner bay, dublin reaching 81, while napa will see
5:12 am
a high of 83 degrees and low 70s in san francisco. we'll continue to watch what's going on as we head into the weekend. mike, you're looking at also the impact of the game for traffic. >> that's right, kari. folks in the area, you've already seen on 237 and 101, we've already seen the signs lit up. they were placed i think tuesday night or wednesday morning as we look into the area through santa clara, lawrence expressway, great america parkway, access points to over here, levi's stadium, the parkway, these bridges are cool on the map but crowded as they cross to and from the parking lots. remember the game is 5:30, which is early for this early in the season, preseason game, this will be an issue starting any time after 3:30 for local road closures. they've already started some access and some traffic control and some prep in the area as early as yesterday, so keep that in mind for this portion of the south bay, for the niners versus packers, let's call it the niners game.
5:13 am
everything else moves smoothly south of san francisco. we're tracking this alert north 101. the sensors are moving better, we may have more access heading north toward the bay bridge, one lane possibly more coming up. back to you. >> thanks, mike. we are stirring the pot this morning on "today in the bay." this morning, we have one of the most contentious topics, do you split the bill evenly when you go out with friends or break down what you ordered? we want to you join the conversation. >> hmm. yes, split the bail bill, please, thank you. attention shoppers! a new super charging station, one major retailer is adding to its parking lot. >> that is nice. but first our back-to-school coverage continues with our morning announcements from nbc -- from bay area school superintendents. here's mt. diablo unified superintendent dr. alam clark. >> trey: three things i want everyone to really focus on this year, i want our students when healthy to show up each day on time, ready to learn.

guidance from the cdc. the latest round of rules moves away from those restrictive measures that we may have gotten used to these past more than two years. among those key changes, you no longer have to quarantine if you've come in close contact with someone who is sick. instead, wear a mask for ten days and take a test on day five. if you test positive for covid, the cdc says you're now supposed to stay home for at least five days. once day five hits and you've been fever and symptom free for 24 hours, you can stop isolating but you should keep masking until day ten. there are also some changes for your children at school. the cdc removed the recommendation that different classrooms should avoid mixing or cohorting, and also done away with test to stay which means that kids who are in contact with someone who tested positive for covid need to regularly test negative to remain in the classroom. health experts say the move away from restrictive measures shows the agency is making the point covid is here to stay.
