the pecos river ripped a historic crest of over 17 feet sunday afternoon in new mexico the national weather service warning major flooding is still possible in the area crews in new mexico worked to rescue a man whose car got caught in rushing floodwaters. that man waited on the roof of his vehicle as it floated downstream both the rescuers and that man were not hurt. nearly 100 miles south, the carlsbad caverns national park was closed sunday after surging water cut off the roads to the caverns. nearly 200 tourists and workers were evacuated from the park, spending hours waiting as waters rose to nearly 20 feet in some areas. in utah's zion national park, the search is under way for gital agnitri, a graduate student who was ripped away by a current friday officials say he was swept away by the same current carrying this man, who was rescued by good samaritans after clinging

onto a log we don't see the video right there. for the latest on the flooding in the southwest and where it's headed, we turn to nbc meteorologist michelle grossman. good morning, michelle >> good morning to you both. we had flash flooding events not only in new mexico, colorado, utah, arizona, we're going to see more flash flooding today. remember, flash flooding is the number one weather-related cause of death when it comes to weather events. we're going to be looking at some closely it's dangerous, it's serious, it's life-threatening. flash flood risk today, lots of spots under the gun for flash flooding especially in the southern plains, into the lower mississippi valley where you see that pink. that includes dallas that is a moderate risk. we don't see that very off then. we'll see flash flooding today and also tomorrow. we do have the expectation of heavy rain it's going to come fast, it will be furious this will be good in the long run, but short-term a dangerous situation today. 3 to 5 inches, locally higher amounts up to 8 inches in spots. we have another system that's

the justice department has until thursday to submit a redacted version of the affidavit used to justify the search for classified documents the doj argues releasing the document would jeopardize their investigation, but mr. trump and many of his allies want the information released one of those allies includes senator lindsey graham he was scheduled to give testimony tomorrow for a different investigation in georgia, but an appeals court has put that on hold while prosecutors determine if the senator is protected from answering certain questions. meanwhile, we're learning more about what congresswoman liz cheney's political agenda will be now that she lost her primary in wyoming she's vowing to campaign against some members of her own party. >> i'm going to be very focused on working to ensure that we do everything we can not to elect election deniers and i'm going to work against those people i'm going to work to support their opponents. i think it matters that much
